cd rom is not recognized in device manager, trird editing filters in the registry editor,there are 8/9 different filters to chose from,doesent say which is upper or lower filters.dont want to mess about in the registry case i balls it up tottaly.

It's the same if I try to run it using cmd, run or try to run it from task manager. I don't have any viruses and I can still open all the other registrytools like msconfig, cmd, admintools etc.

Cant start it from 'run' either. no window, no error message, no regedit.com in task manager after trying to start regedit. If I then reboot it magically works again...but after some time it wont start again (im not doing any changes). Im 100% sure im virus free

Please installa program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." I found "fixes" online, but nothing helped. I can't acess regedit files, ths has dropped my acess to "open as admin" as well. The latest fix didnt work either. I changed the files to Adobe, to try to gain acess. Still a no go. Upon reinstalling everything I tried to access both msconfig and regedit under the search box in the start menu. When it does this it says "No items match your search". What could be the problem? The desktop had reverted to a default appearance and all the icons on it except for the recycle bin were gone. Under the Start Menu, the only program listed was Solitaire, though if I clicked "All Programs" at the bottom it did list them all. I read that it might be a registry issue, so I downloaded and ran "Free Windows Registry Repair", but when I restarted the computer afterwards I saw it did not fix the problem. I also read it could be an issue with "hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftwindows NTcurrentversionprofilelist". That did not come up when I ran the Registry Repair program, and I cannot get to regedit,because Run does not appear as an option when I type run in the search bar in the Start Menu.

Everything's working just fine, the problem is that it is way too loud. I'm using a pair of ear buds and VLC media player to play my music, and both are set to 1%, but the music is still much too loud. When I set both to max, I can literally use my ear buds as an external speaker. I would like some sort of way to decrease my audio output by like 99%, because it's just about 100 times too loud.

The only way to get it work is if its on a FAT32 drive and the sound acceleration is turned to its lowest!
Its OK if there's not any way to do this, since I can just go over to XP to play!

I just picked up a Windows 7 book at the bookstore (can't remember the title), but it indicated that the maximum RAM that can be recognized varies by edition.
I was surprised by this, as I don't remember seeing in the version matrix that Microsoft posted. It won't be long before 16 Gig is not such a huge number. And I am glad I went for Pro, but my motivation was solely XP Mode. Another goody I had not expected to find is EFS.
I still use an old CRT 19" monitor (Philips 109p4). It displays best, sharpest picture at 1152x864.
But Windows 7 "thinks" and persists that my Philips should be fed with 1600x1200 image (it calls it "Recommended resolution") . But it's too much for my monitor - and the picture quality suffers (everything gets a bit blurry).
What's the problem, one could ask, simply go to the display settings and set the screen resolution to 1152x864. And here's where the tricky part begins! Windows 7 only pretends to let me set lower resolution!
The desktop size changes to 1152x864, but the nVidia graphic card still generates 1600x1200 image (which is confirmed by OSD function in my monitor). Thus the smaller desktop gets smoothly (with some kind of antialiasing or rather bilienear texture filtering) magnified (projected) to fit the big phisycal 1600x1200. Result - lack of sharpness.
I can understand that this trick may be usefull for some kind of users with some type of LCD displays. But in my case - CRT - this sucks big time!
How to make Windows 7 *RELLY* set the resolution to a lower one?
I heard there could be firmware preinstalled that forbids low write speeds. I'm trying to achieve 4x
I burn with DiscJuggler. It reports 30x-40x speeds, despite setting 4x everywhere in it. I'm using Sony blanks.. or could they be the conflict ?
My friend said to try Nero DiscSpeed.. to hopefully lower the drive's minimum write speed.. I set 4x here and there (been a while), but it did no difference.
Could this be somewhere I have to hunt down in the BIOS ?
