I have a fresh installation of windows 7 ultimate edition 64 bit, sometimes regedit will not run. I click regedit.com and nothing happens. Cant start it from 'run' either. no window, no error message, no regedit.com in task manager after trying to start regedit. If I then reboot it magically works again...but after some time it wont start again (im not doing any changes). Im 100% sure im virus free
Can't access exe files. "This file does not have a program associated with it fr performing this action. Please installa program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." I found "fixes" online, but nothing helped. I can't acess regedit files, ths has dropped my acess to "open as admin" as well. The latest fix didnt work either. I changed the files to Adobe, to try to gain acess. Still a no go. I've tried in safe mode as well. IndyWolf has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
Where the "Open File Location" option/command in the right click menu is in regedit? I'm customizing my Windows 7 Laptop and I wan't to put an icon there. I already know how to add icons I just need the location.I tried searching for it (CTRL + F) but it wont come up. I also checked every place a command could possibly be (shell folders, shellex folders, etc.) I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033.
My regedit has stopped opening properly. When I try to open regedit I get the UAC protection popup and I click yes. Then nothing happens. It's the same if I try to run it using cmd, run or try to run it from task manager. I don't have any viruses and I can still open all the other registrytools like msconfig, cmd, admintools etc.
I recently had to reinstall windows due to my computer crashing. Upon reinstalling everything I tried to access both msconfig and regedit under the search box in the start menu. When it does this it says "No items match your search". What could be the problem? Everything else is running perfectly and I know I have no viruses or malware.
I want to create a new windows user from regedit. Only changing regedit. Without changing in control panel. Is that possible? Can I do that? Only changing regedit.
I looked in google these days and I didnot find something that works.
Is it possible to copy the application parameters in the regedit file in XP, then copy them to the Windows 7 regedit file, in order not to have to install all the applications over again.
I need to change a registry setting so i can use my raid drive, which is isastorV or wahtever, to 3 but once im done editting the registry under recovery console in windows 7. (from a repair disk)i noitce, that when i return to recovery console after a reboot, the setting has reverted back to 0 from its change of 3.In other words.Regedit is not saving any changes i make to it (the registry) under recovery console).
When I restarted my computer after running a check of the hard drive, Igot a message that read "C:windowssystem32configsystemprofileDesktop refers to a location that isunavailable." The desktop had reverted to a default appearance and all the icons on it except for the recycle bin were gone. Under the Start Menu, the only program listed was Solitaire, though if I clicked "All Programs" at the bottom it did list them all. I read that it might be a registry issue, so I downloaded and ran "Free Windows Registry Repair", but when I restarted the computer afterwards I saw it did not fix the problem. I also read it could be an issue with "hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftwindows NTcurrentversionprofilelist". That did not come up when I ran the Registry Repair program, and I cannot get to regedit, because Run does not appear as an option when I type run in the search bar in the Start Menu.
Is there any way to disable System Protection (My computer->Properties->System protection->[choose hard disk drive or partition]->Configure->check dot TURN OFF SYSTEM PROTECTION ) using regedit tool?I need this by the registry to I can put in automated process because we made about 4000 machines per day.
I've received a private sale computer with windows 7. It appears the task manager and regedit have been disabled by the administrator. I have administrator status of the machine. Am currently running several anti virus / anti spyware programs, but trying to restoring the functionality of regedit, task manager, and any other potentially affected items

I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine.
When I have a couple of screens open on my desktop. When I click on an icon for, lets say, iTunes, I can see the iTunes window appear behind the translucent taskbar of Win 7. Ditto for MS World. How do i get programs that are already open to open up with ONE click, instead of having to closed down all the other windows.
For a while my windows 7 64 bit would open my images in Documents. Now when I try they appear as a garbled strange format. If I go to PSP ProX2 they open fine. This is a problem for me since I often need to add images to document Newsletters I send out.
I have a fairly new HP Desktop PC. I'm running Windows 7 Home 64-bit SP1. Yesterday I noticed that iTunes won't open when I double-click on the shortcut icon on my desktop. I restarted my computer, same issue. I restarted in Safe Mode, same issueI did notuninstall/reinstall because I also can't open my Spybot-SD. Same thing happens. The process is listed in Task Manager, but the programs just don't open. I have not trieduninstalling/reinstalling the programs because I tried doing a System Restore back to early February. The System Restore was successful but the problem persists. Also, Windows Media Player opens, but it opens weird, wherein it freezes on a white square for a few minutes before finally loading. Also, my DVD burning software, DVD Flick, opens but first it freezes on a yellow square.
It's hard to Google this problem because of all the programs involved, and I'm sure there are more programs that won't open that I'm just not aware of yet. I didn't do anything that I can think of that could've caused the problem (and if I had, the system restore would've fixed it). So I scanned my PC for viruses with Symantec and I also scanned for malware with Microsoft Security Essentials and both scans came up clean. Not being able to use iTunes presents a problem because I can't update my phone or make changes to my phone at all.
My girlfriend recently lent me her laptop (Windows 7 32bit) it was still using IE so when I go to install chrome the built in 'security program' (Windows 7 internet security 2011 or something like that) tells me that chrome is a threat and wont let me use it.. Now after finding out that Windows 7 internet security 2011 is a joke and just wants my money I run spybot search and destroy, it finds plenty of viruses and such like which are all removed. Now I have the strange problem...When I try to run any program or file the 'open this file with' window comes up. With some programs I can browse the program files and locate the program, select open with (I can't select 'always use the selected program') and away we go, but with others it simply doesn't open or will open the program in the background (unusable) and give me the 'open with' window again.. I have tried putting the Malwarebytes installer on USB but the laptop still gives me the 'open with' window when I try to install that
if i go to the start button to go to my computer the window will open on the first try , but say i try to go to my computer again it will just sit there and not open. the exployer window will open but not the contents inside.does not care how many times i try it will only open the window and show nothing inside , a bar will go across the top to show progress but still it will not open.if i restart the computer i can open up the my computer or just computer in W7.like right now i tried to open up the window to check my hard drive and im still waiting for it to open.this goes on on both of my computers running windows 7.all coms are updated to the fullest and im not overclocking or doing anything other normal stuff. So is there a bug or somthing that im missing , once again if i go to start , and hit computer the window will open on the first try , but if i do it to many times it will just open a window and just sit there.even further if i open it up and try to open a file it will just hang there and not open , there is no error warning or nothing.
Im having a problem with opening files I use to open with two programs. One is mkv, vob and divx files with homecinema. And snes roms with an emulator. Basically win 7 would let me select the program and it would show up on the list of programs to use. I would select always use and I'm done. But I moved the folders containing the files to a different folder and now my two programs I use will not show up in the open with list. I now have to go to the program itself and search for the files. Its a pain because I could click on the files and get right to them.
I'm Running Windows 7(64bit)Each time I boot into Windows 7 Prem (64) a open window apears requesting my username at the top of the open window to specify a a program to open it?I've clicked on note pad and I get the following information that apears, each time though it requests, or looks for a program to use to open.

"Open device failure/ open driver handle failure" message when installing gigabyte utilities. The install fails. Does anyone know what might be causing this message?
I tried to open a program using the open with option and it changed the icons for every program on my laptop. I changed the desktop (network, my computer etc) icons back to default but can't manage to change the others. If i go into properties for the program and change it that way it doesn't do anything.
I just got a new Samsung RC420 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium edition OS. When I was installing a software last night, a message pops up and tells me I cannot continue installation until I close a certain program (in this case it was Adobe Updater, which was not opened at all).Today, I am trying to open "my briefcase" from a USB thumb, but a message pops up telling me I cannot open "my briefcase" as it appears a file in it is already open. But nothing else is open on my computer. It was my first time opening anything from the USB thumb.
