Is it possible to copy the application parameters in the regedit file in XP, then copy them to the Windows 7 regedit file, in order not to have to install all the applications over again.
Any suggestion to safely transfer files and parameters from Vista to 7 on same machine (just like the one usually done from old to new machine) would be much appreciated.
My current hard drive has been getting wonky on me. About a month ago it came up with bad sectors. Replaced them with backup sectors. Nothing bad has happen since then, and I scan almost every day just in case. I am considering buying a new 1TB just because it will be newer, and faster. This disk is getting a lot of read/write errors and takes a while to do some stuff now.
My question is, does anyone know if it is possible to transfer your windows 7 partitions to a new drive directly without using a 3rd drive as a medium. The hard drive I am using is 750gb, and as I said, I am getting a 1TB. So does anyone know an easy way I can just plug in the new drive, use software to copy over Windows 7 to the new drive and it still work?
I know Windows 7 installed 2 partitions, so that is what is confusing me. Because I can not even see the other partition it uses.
PS: I have all my files backed up on 2 other drives. So don't worry about that.
I have an application with a setup.ini file that is causing the Application Compatibility Service to flip out when I try to install it. I edited the setup.ini file to include the following (which is probably incorrect):
[Win7]
MajorVer=6
MinorVer=1
MinorVerMax=2
BuildNo=7000
PlatformId=2
If anyone has an idea of how to correctly edit this file so that Windows 7 knows there are no compatibility issues, it would be much appreciated.
I was always asking myself why microsoft hasn't included the option to press a key at boot menu and edit the boot parameters on-the-fly. Well, maybe it was included in Vista and I didn't know...but I accidentally found that:
If you press the F10 key while booting Windows 7 (either at boot menu or before) you get the option to edit the boot parameters:
You can edit the boot line , similar to XP's boot.ini way :
e.g.
/NOEXECUTE=OPTIN
It's strange, cause it's not mentioned anywhere at the boot menu, that F10 key lets you edit the boot parameters!
I have a weird problem when I want to enter my IPs parameters.
In the "Network Lan Properties" of my network card, when I select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPV4)" the button "Properties" is disable thus I can't enter the IP address, Netmask and Gateway. I tried to disable IPV6 and reboot but it went without any success.
I have a peculiar issue with task scheduler in Windows 7. I have programatically added a task specifying certain parameters ( set the parameters using ITask::SetParameters ()). Then I modified the parameters again with new value.When I changed the parameters using ITask::SetParameters (), It returns S_OK, I save it using IPersistFile::Save(). It is also returning S_OK.
WBADMIN command line parameters provides a possibility to create batch files running advanced, automated backup.But, I need a scheduled task for backup of the entire system image. It seems this is not possible, and that the only way to create a system image backup is by using the GUI?/Per What I'm looking for i the Windows 7 equivalent to the Windows Server 2008 "wbadmin start systemstatebackup" command line parameter.
My regedit has stopped opening properly. When I try to open regedit I get the UAC protection popup and I click yes. Then nothing happens. It's the same if I try to run it using cmd, run or try to run it from task manager. I don't have any viruses and I can still open all the other registrytools like msconfig, cmd, admintools etc.
I have a fresh installation of windows 7 ultimate edition 64 bit, sometimes regedit will not run. I click regedit.com and nothing happens. Cant start it from 'run' either. no window, no error message, no regedit.com in task manager after trying to start regedit. If I then reboot it magically works again...but after some time it wont start again (im not doing any changes). Im 100% sure im virus free
Can't access exe files. "This file does not have a program associated with it fr performing this action. Please installa program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." I found "fixes" online, but nothing helped. I can't acess regedit files, ths has dropped my acess to "open as admin" as well. The latest fix didnt work either. I changed the files to Adobe, to try to gain acess. Still a no go. I've tried in safe mode as well. IndyWolf has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
I recently had to reinstall windows due to my computer crashing. Upon reinstalling everything I tried to access both msconfig and regedit under the search box in the start menu. When it does this it says "No items match your search". What could be the problem? Everything else is running perfectly and I know I have no viruses or malware.
I want to create a new windows user from regedit. Only changing regedit. Without changing in control panel. Is that possible? Can I do that? Only changing regedit.
I looked in google these days and I didnot find something that works.
Where the "Open File Location" option/command in the right click menu is in regedit? I'm customizing my Windows 7 Laptop and I wan't to put an icon there. I already know how to add icons I just need the location.I tried searching for it (CTRL + F) but it wont come up. I also checked every place a command could possibly be (shell folders, shellex folders, etc.) I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033.
I need to change a registry setting so i can use my raid drive,which is isastorV or wahtever, to 3 but once im done editting the registry under recovery console in windows 7. (from a repair disk)i noitce, that when i return to recovery console after a reboot, the setting has reverted back to 0 from its change of 3.In other words.Regedit is not saving any changes i make to it (the registry) under recovery console).
When I restarted my computer after running a check of the hard drive, Igot a message that read "C:windowssystem32configsystemprofileDesktop refers to a location that isunavailable." The desktop had reverted to a default appearance and all the icons on it except for the recycle bin were gone. Under the Start Menu, the only program listed was Solitaire, though if I clicked "All Programs" at the bottom it did list them all. I read that it might be a registry issue, so I downloaded and ran "Free Windows Registry Repair", but when I restarted the computer afterwards I saw it did not fix the problem. I also read it could be an issue with "hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftwindows NTcurrentversionprofilelist". That did not come up when I ran the Registry Repair program, and I cannot get to regedit,because Run does not appear as an option when I type run in the search bar in the Start Menu.
Is there any way to disable System Protection (My computer->Properties->System protection->[choose hard disk drive or partition]->Configure->check dot TURN OFF SYSTEM PROTECTION ) using regedit tool?I need this by the registry to I can put in automated process because we made about 4000 machines per day.
I've received a private sale computer with windows 7. It appears the task manager and regedit have been disabled by the administrator. I have administrator status of the machine. Am currently running several anti virus / anti spyware programs, but trying to restoring the functionality of regedit, task manager, and any other potentially affected items
I've been getting this error message:"exception processing message parameters 0xc000007FEFC3E718C"every time I shut down or log off, accompanied by "Bad Image" messages from time to time, usually concerning davhlpr.dll. I've run the System File Checker three times, and each time it returns an error saying davhlpr.dll is corrupt and it can't restore it from the file store. I tried replacing davhlpr.dll with a copy I downloaded - once in Safe Mode and after setting the proper authorizations -, but each time I run the System File Checker it still shows davhlpr.dll as corrupt and says it can't replace it. By the way, I get the same "exception processing message" error when logging off in Safe Mode and from a brand-new account I created.This is a fully updated, recent install of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. It seems to have started happening after I tried a couple of dialog-box enchancement utilities. But I've uninstalled everything I'd installed from before it started happening.
I have purchased and downloaded both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows7 Professional (no CDs or media here only download version)
I sucessfully upgraded from Vista 32 to Windows 7 32
Then I upgraded my hard disk (140Gb 500GB) and RAM (3GB to to 4GB)
Now I would like to go from Windows 7 32bit to 64bit
When I try and run the Windows 7-P-retail-en-us.x64.exe file it upacks the box then stops with this error:"We are unable to create or save files in the folder in which this application was downloaded. Please check the folder properties to make sure that you have security permission on the folder to write flies and that that folder is not read only".
I am the System Admin and I have full rights, and have moved the exe and the setup box files to My Documentsand I have modified the directory properties/attributes but I still get the same error over and over.
I searched the posts and some people stated one needs a clean install others say you can upgrade from any version so I am trying the upgrade here especially since the upgrade from Vista 32 to Windows 7 32 was smooth and did require all the extra work of a reinstall.
I purchased the Win 7 Pro Upgrade 32bit via digitalriver, but I've been doing some reseach and probably should have selected the 64bit version.
- Any ideas how I can get the 64bit version?
- For those who ordered the 32bit back-up disc kit for the extra $15 and have received it, does it come with both 32bit & 64bit?
- I've already installed and activated the 32bit version, but when I go to install the 64bit version, will I need to / is there a way to deactivate my initial 32bit install or will this not matter?
I used XP Transfer Wizard to store my files (over 200GB) on external hard drive. Now I have Windows 7 machine and can't use them directly.I tried to use Virtual PC XP mode to import files but Virtual PC can only handle something around 136 GB virtual hard disk, so after 6 hours of transfer it stopped... I don't have the XP machine anymore - I'm stuck with Windows 7 and can't figure out how to move these files over..Is there a way to actually open all these Wizard IMGXXXXX.dat files and read them?
