I go to device manager and don't see anything relating to a cd rom drive. I have an HP Pavillion Notebook DV 9810 US and the cd rom drive itself is Lightscribe. I have tried to go into the registry through cmd, regedit and control etc but found no upper filter nor lower filter to delete. Instead when I click on the last folder,4d36e965 I see 0000 and properties. In the upper right I see default, class, class desc, enum prop pages, icon path, installer 32, no install class, silent install.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt's not a huge problem, but just found out the WIN 7 audio driver for my HP notebook Pavilion dv2312us will not be available for another 2-3 months. Using the current driver, I get a POP sound when it goes into sleep mode or shuts down. I also don't have a mute function. I hope the POP sound is not damaging to the computer.
I was on the driver page for this computer and the Win 7 audio driver is not listed. So then I went into a chat - he gave me a driver that wasn't compatible at all. Had to go back to my other generic IDT driver which causes problems above.
It will only stay booted in Safe Mode. When I start the computer, it boots up, stays booted for a few minutes, then the screen goes black and it reboots. This keeps happening unless it is booted in Safe Mode. Purchased with Vista; I clean installed Windows 7 Home Premium (I know it's legit, bought it for her myself) when Windows 7 first came out.
When I turned it on, it rebooted so I started it in Safe mode and have tried/found the following problems: It had 4 adware programs and one trojan horse; removed those with Malwarebytes. Rescanned with Malwarebytes and MS Security Essentials, came out clean - Device manager showed two problems - bad drivers for co-processor and bad drivers for Graphics card. Installed those drivers and the Device Manager did not show anything wrong. Problem keeps happening.
Opened BIOS and ran both Hard Drive and Memory Diagnostics; no problems found, Did not make any BIOS changes (I have little experience with BIOS) - Ran diagnostics with Windows 7 disk; including Repair, Memory Diagnostics; no problems found - Graphics card is NVIDIA GeFroce 7150M/nforce 630M; reinstalled drivers, didn't work anything - When the screen saver goes on, there is an error message. "The screen saver can't run because it requires a newer video card or one that's compatible with Direct 3D".
This is an old computer, well out of warranty. Do I still possibly have an embedded virus? What removal tool should I get? Is it worth replacing the graphics card - if that's possible on an old laptop? Should I try a clean install of Windows 7?

View 3 Replies View Relatedmy laptop has been working fine for the most, occasionally the screen would go weird and turn white with horizontal lines moving and i planned on getting that checked out soon, but today it wouldn't start up. i turn the laptop on and it goes to the Starting Windows screen and the windows logo never shows up and then it tries to do a system repair and it can't solve the problem. i'm not really sure what else there is for me to do. there aren't any system restore points i can use and i can a check disk that did nothing. i wanted to try turning it back to factory settings and backing up my files but when i tried to do the file back up and it was creating the back up files i got an error that says "HP Recovery Manager failed. Error code = FFFFFF0C."
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a pavilion g6 laptop running windows 7 with intel i3 core. got to home and it started up great within a couple of minutes. Went through onscreen tutorials and was prompted to allow windows to automatically update which I did. Windows then went on to update about 11 things, which were for security and x64bit, I was then prompted to restart which I did. It then went on to configure the updates which took 4 hours, Now everytime the laptop is turned on it takes 15 minutes to load. (this time is from the time I press the power button to the desktop screen) For the first couple of minutes I get a black screen with the windows logo, then the pale blue 'please wait' screen which lasts about 5 mins. I am then prompted to input my password. Another pale blue 'please wait' screen for a couple of minutes. The screen then goes blank for the remainder if the time (but I can see and move the pointer onscreen)I have done a troubleshoot and the results came back that I have to many programs running at startup which may hamper performance but as these are reinstalled or have been automatically updated I'm not sure which ones are needed, below is a list of these programs.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a hp pavilion dv3 laptop, 13.3", which runs on windows 7. it has an intel core i5 and 4 gb of ram with 500 gb of memory. it's very new - i only bought it about a month ago, and up until a few hours ago it was running fine. it has been very fast and responsive, and i was careful to not download a load of junk or anything that might slow it down. i used it this morning and it was fine, but since i turned it on this afternoon it has suddenly begun running slowly. when i turn it on i can enter my password and get into my user account, and everything loads fine, but when i try to do anything it will just freeze up and refuse to respond. i can't even right-click and refresh, or click on the taskbar. i just get that little blue spinning circle to infinity.the laptop is running okay in safe mode, which i am in right now. i'm trying to rack my brains to remember what i could have done to mess it up, but nothing comes to mind. last night i downloaded aim, but that didn't seem to have changed anything this morning. when i used the laptop before it started freezing, all i did was watch a few Internet videos and then turn it off again.
when i realised it was freezing, the first thing i did was to turn it off and restart in safe mode. i went to control panel and removed the password to my user account (irrationally, i was getting paranoid about being locked out), which i hope didn't confuse the poor laptop. i then restored it to an earlier date 2 days ago, but it still froze about three minutes after turning it on, and my password was still enabled. after that i went to start > run > msconfig and disabled all the startup items, but the laptop still continued to freeze upon startup. then i unplugged the battery and just ran off the power switch, but it's still freezing! then i started to despair and tried to run a registry cleanup, but i figured it just looked like a scam or a virus so i decided otherwise. i use avast! free antivirus, and i ran a scan, but that didn't find anything.unfortunately, i live in a very hot, dusty country. recently quite a lot of dust was getting into the room where i keep my laptop. i was worried that the laptop might have been getting dust inside it. but i have another older laptop which doesn't seem to be affected at all?i did make backup discs when i first got the laptop, but i only want to use them as a very last resort.
Ever since I bought my new computer and installed Windows 7 64 bit Pro I have noticed that sometimes when I start my computer the startup locks up or crashes, requiring me to restart or it takes me to the system repair screen and running this process does nothing.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi used to get the BSOD very often so i decided to recover the system to the initial state . i did that and everything was fine , then i updated the windows 7 service pack 1 and finished the installation and rebooted my computer , the start-up at least took half an hour at that time and the service pack 1 installation showed "not successful " i tried to again to update the service pack1 which showed 73.6mb - 892.6mb so i updated it again and again the same thing happened.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron and a while ago I shut down my PC and the next morning I was faced with options to repair my computer. It hung on the screen for ages before it actually came up with startup repair and supposedly fixed the problem. A few days later, everything got very slow and started to freeze a lot and before long, booting the computer got very slow as well as it hung for about ten minutes on a black screen after the 'welcome' screen before finally starting up. I decided to reinstall the operating system (I did NOT reformat the C drive), so I borrowed my Grandma's external hard drive and copied my files. After reinstalling using a Dell Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium Re-Installation DVD, I copied and deleted the files off the external hard drive onto my PC (I didn't know it would create a Windows.old folder) and started installing programs. Then I left it overnight to install quite a big program. This morning, somehow it had turned off. I turned it on and it gave me the safe mode options and a 'start windows normally' option. I chose the latter and after typing my password it hung on the welcome screen again. I left it for ages and it just went back to the user login screen again. I pressed the red button in the corner to shut it down but it just hung once again on an empty screen so I did a hard shutdown (held down the power button). I turned it on again...startup repair. It gave me the option for system restore, which I did (then realising when it finished that I hadn't made a backup). I booted it, and again it wouldn't start properly. At this time, safe mode booted fine. After trying various things (even using a compressed air can to get rid of dust) and a few hard shutdowns, suddenly every option from the advanced boot menu took me to startup repair except 'Repair your Computer' which gave the normal options for repair (although now it only gives me 2, Startup Repair and DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup. Now when I do startup repair, some times it says it has fixed the problem, and sometimes it says it cannot be fixed automatically and gives me information on the problem (a few things it said were: 'StartupRepairOffline', 'AutoFailover' and 'CorruptRegistry').
I can't reinstall my computer because then I would lose my precious files.
Is there some way I can save my files and reinstall or even just save my files somehow or am I screwed?
My hp dv3t has been giving a message about checking a disk for consistency every time I reboot(ed) for about a week now, but today it froze after the countdown reaches zero (for bypassing the procedure)nothing I do can get it past this step. What do I do? I tried booting from Safe Mode, it listed a bunch of drivers but then froze.I'm using W7 64-bit Home Premium.

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium , Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 240 Processor, AMD64 Family 16 Model 6 Stepping 2
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 2815 Mb
[code]....
Antivirus: The Shield Deluxe Antivirus, Updated and Enabled DISPLAY MODEL: All I got with it was mouse and power cord On Startup, I get icons for the Administrator and Standard user. Clicking on the Administrator gives me a desktop with an on-screen keyboard; the computer keyboard disabled, and a panel saying,"FAILED, The application has failed to start." Going back and clicking on the Standard User icon gets me running for the most part. Here's the BIG problem. Every time I try to install any program, the User Account Control box drops down and asks for the Administrator Password, plus the question,"Do you want to allow the following programs to make changes to your computer?" You click "Yes", but, since no one is in the Administrator office, your installation comes to a halt. This blocks "Install" and "Uninstall". I get lots of messages I need Adobe Flash Player. I've trie over and again to install it, going to Windows 32 bit, but can't uninstall my previous tries. It will always download, and that's all. I've tried to install my digital camera's CD, but can't.
I was just about to buy the Windows 7 upgrade version with the student bundle, when it asked me if I want 32 bit or 64 bit. I thought it would send both, but, sadly, it won't. I do want 64-bit, since Asus decided to pack 4 gigs of ram into my laptop even though they sent it with a 32 bit OS...
So here's my questions:
1. Can I use the 64-bit Windows 7 Home Upgrade Disk to perform a clean install of 64-bit Win7 Home on my notebook that came with 32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium?
I am new to the whole upgrade thing... I am used to buying complete OS's. The price is what caught me here. So, I searched around and found that I can't upgrade directly and keep all my files. That is not a problem, I'll back them up... But can I make the clean install to 64-bit? Do I need to use my product key from Vista or what, and will it work to upgrade to 7 in another bit version?
~~ Just found the answer from a thread that got bumped right after I posted this. Sorry for the duplicate thread~~
2. Can my notebook even support Windows 7? It is an Asus N81Vg:
CPU: Intel Duo P8600
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT120M
I'm unsure if the drivers will work and everything, although I do think they should as it's a newer model...
the Startup screen. So I went to the Startup repair tool as was recommended, but after few tries nothing has changed. So I tried to recover to previous recovery point, but also nothing. Then I tried booting to Safe mode, and I saw that during the loading process there was no file shown as succesfully loaded. I might also know what could be the cause of this problem, because yesterday when I was shutting Win down, there was a blackout so obviusly some files are corrupted.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
I have CPU-Z, Hardware Monitor Pro and Resource Monitor shortcuts in the startup folder.
If I go to MSCONFIG I can see that the items are there to be started during startup.
What am I doing wrong that will not allow these programs to start up?
I hate it when this happens and so far, the startup repair has always been able to fix the problem. Today, I'm not so lucky.
I'm using my other built right now coz I have to work. I don't remember what updates I did last night but I do remember the dvd drive firmware was updated.I popped in the system restore disc, start it up and the same page appears: Start with windows start up or Start windows normally. Tried both and neither one of them would bring up system restore. This built was only a month old and was hardly used so far so no system restore point was created at this point. I have files in it that I would like to keep but I can't get to them right now so a clean fresh install is needed but I can't get it up.
I have a tough problem that I would really appreciate detailed instructions on how to solve. I recently purchased a Motion Computing M1300 Tablet (originally from Circa 2003). It has a 40GB HDD (internal - IDE I think) that has been wiped so it has no OS - only BIOS.
I do not have any keyboard or mouse (its a pen table) or DVD/CD Rom for this computer. It does have a USB and I follewed instructions to create a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 7 on it, but that procedure gets only a few minutes into it and then fails because computer is unable to find any drivers that it is look for.
I do have access to a second XP computer with DVD. I have a Windows 7 DVD and also an XP DVD as well that I can access on the 2nd computer. I can and have taken out the HDD from the Motion Computer computer and I have a USB Drive attachment that allows me to connect the drive from the Motion table (after taking it out) to my second laptop where I can do all kinds of things to it.
What I want to do is figure out some instructions on what to do to the HDD after removing it from my tablet (maybe starting with a low level format) so that I can put an OS on the HDD (though the USB connected to my XP laptop) and after I put the HDD back in the Motion Computing laptop, everything will start working and the Motion Laptop will be usable with the OS.
I would prefer to have Windows 7 on it, but at this point, I would even accept someway to even get XP working on the machine. Everything I have tried so far just has not worked.
