Oct 24, 2012Running Windows 7 64bit, and for the past few weeks I cannot download anything or use firefox/internet explorer. My problem began when I wanted to watch Thursday Night Footbal, and stupid me downloaded a single file that was a bad torrrent software. I accepted the one bad piece of garbage torrent software, and then a whole list unwanted and unauthorized software were rolled out and executed on my laptop. These unwanted software incuded 'Babylon:Translate Toolbar" among other useless pieces of bad software. The moment I hit the dreaded open and run, I knew there was a serious problem and I should have neve done that.
I have run several scans in their updated state when I was able to download updated viruse definitions for: Norton, Windows Security Essentials, Spybot, and something on the microsoft website. Spybot and Win Sec Essentials both found some garbage. Malware and a no less than 2 Trojans. I deleted both, but that was just the beginning of my problems. Because from that point forward, I slowly lost my ability to download anything.I can open FF/IE, but cannot connect to a webpage. when I type something it the URL I get hourglass and "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" I received a similiar warning in FF.
I spent a few days trying to uninstall a whole lot of unused programs and anything i viewed as unessential, including Firefox, ComcastSpyware, anything "Real" or Yahoo or MS Live/Messenger. The only way i'm able to communicated no is through the 64bit version of IE. Anyway, i wanted to download Norton Virus Removal tool yesterday, and have come to the point now where I cannot download anything.This is by far the worst thing that has ever happened to me in my 10 years and 4 computer life span. I'm considering a clean reformatting and starting anew, but i don't have the windows disks I got with this computer that is now 3 years old.perhaps even a way to bypass this virus, redirect, or unwanted firewall that is preventing me from downloading or surfing the web. Or B) Provide instructions on how to do a comlete drive wipe and arrive at a clean disk reformatting excercise without any windows disks.
Note: I do not want to avoid a system restore of any kind, as I've found those to be more problematic in some cases. I have not doneany system restores in the three+ years i've had this machine.

There seems to be nothing in Action Center that is relevant and I can't uninstall Defender as there's no option so I went to Services and disabled it. Still I get the message. I've tried a Command Prompt that should have disabled it, but no luck. I went to the AVG forum which is definitely not user friendly. I rang the free phone number only to find that a) I couldn't hear the operator and she couldn't hear me and b) it's only the phone call that's free - the service isn't.

Nov 22, 2012After this update to Windows Security Essentials, it takes 8 minutes for my desktop machine to start, instead of 2 minutes. Notified that "Could not connect to a System Event Notification Service". Went back to a restore point of 2 days earlier and got back to normal. However, Thunderbird e-mail client won't work and cannot be restarted. So rebooted and Windows update kicked in again and same problem. Looked at Windows updates and it cannot be uninstalled.

Not All Messages Are Visible In Live Mail 2012
Dec 31, 2012Yesterday I received couple of mails, but it turned out that one of them somehow dissapeared. I saw him, read, and then....gone. I couldn't find it anywhere, even with using search button, so I logged in on the mail through the browser and.. the mail was there. The same happens with some sent messages - some of them go directly to the sent elements and some of them dissappear inbetween and are not visible there.

Jul 19, 2011The laptop is a Toshiba L455D-S5976 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. how to take it off of the computer but it was to no avail- downloading Spyware Doctor wasnt possible because the machine's internet connection is shot (due to Win 7 Antispyware 2012). I had Malwarebytes previously installed from an earlier fix, I update the definitions and scanned the PC, it came back with a few results but removing the found items had no effect. Same situation for SuperAntiSpyware and AdAware. I had to yank the malware out through the registry and now nothing can install, the PC is saying that there is no hardware (no ethernet controller, wifi, audio or anything). Windows Aero is disabled and isnt available to be selected- as if the graphics card doesnt support it.

May 28, 2012I was recently infected with the Smart Fortress 2012 malware. I'm fairly confident I've successfully removed it (ran lots of tools, which found it a removed it, no symptoms currently). However, it seems to have done damage to Windows Firewall. I cannot start the firewall service. I have tried multiple fixes (5 or 6, many per instructions of Microsoft's website), including Microsoft's associated FixIt tool for this problem, to no avail. I still get the message "Windows could not start the Windows Firewall on Local Computer..." (see attached jpg for error). Also, I tried a System Restore (tried 4 restore points), the process failed each time.

There Is A Bug In Windows Live Mail Essentials 2012 As An Upgrade
Dec 19, 2012I had Windows Live Mail 2011 and had no problems. Then I upgraded to Windows live mail 2012 and that is when the problems started.

Apr 27, 2012Twice in the last week the computer has locked up and required me to reset it whilst playing Football Manager 2012. There is actually no BSoD shown the game just freezes up completely until I press the reset button. I can't remember any BSoD before when using Windows 7.Most of the computer is 3-4 years old, and I can't remember when I installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on it probably over 18 months ago when I got a new Graphics Card. The only new hardware in the last few months is a new Razer mouse to replace a faulty ROCCAT mouse, nothing else has changed. Temperatures don't seem to be a big problem and Memtest didn't find any problems, but I haven't had time to run Memtest for more then 3 passes or get inside the case to look at the hardware.

Oct 24, 2009I was just about to buy the Windows 7 upgrade version with the student bundle, when it asked me if I want 32 bit or 64 bit. I thought it would send both, but, sadly, it won't. I do want 64-bit, since Asus decided to pack 4 gigs of ram into my laptop even though they sent it with a 32 bit OS...
So here's my questions:
1. Can I use the 64-bit Windows 7 Home Upgrade Disk to perform a clean install of 64-bit Win7 Home on my notebook that came with 32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium?
I am new to the whole upgrade thing... I am used to buying complete OS's. The price is what caught me here. So, I searched around and found that I can't upgrade directly and keep all my files. That is not a problem, I'll back them up... But can I make the clean install to 64-bit? Do I need to use my product key from Vista or what, and will it work to upgrade to 7 in another bit version?

How To Install In Notebook With No DVD, OS, USB ?
Jul 18, 2009I have a tough problem that I would really appreciate detailed instructions on how to solve. I recently purchased a Motion Computing M1300 Tablet (originally from Circa 2003). It has a 40GB HDD (internal - IDE I think) that has been wiped so it has no OS - only BIOS.
I do not have any keyboard or mouse (its a pen table) or DVD/CD Rom for this computer. It does have a USB and I follewed instructions to create a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 7 on it, but that procedure gets only a few minutes into it and then fails because computer is unable to find any drivers that it is look for.
I do have access to a second XP computer with DVD. I have a Windows 7 DVD and also an XP DVD as well that I can access on the 2nd computer. I can and have taken out the HDD from the Motion Computer computer and I have a USB Drive attachment that allows me to connect the drive from the Motion table (after taking it out) to my second laptop where I can do all kinds of things to it.
What I want to do is figure out some instructions on what to do to the HDD after removing it from my tablet (maybe starting with a low level format) so that I can put an OS on the HDD (though the USB connected to my XP laptop) and after I put the HDD back in the Motion Computing laptop, everything will start working and the Motion Laptop will be usable with the OS.
I would prefer to have Windows 7 on it, but at this point, I would even accept someway to even get XP working on the machine. Everything I have tried so far just has not worked.
