There seems to be nothing in Action Center that is relevant and I can't uninstall Defender as there's no option so I went to Services and disabled it. Still I get the message. I've tried a Command Prompt that should have disabled it, but no luck. I went to the AVG forum which is definitely not user friendly. I rang the free phone number only to find that a) I couldn't hear the operator and she couldn't hear me and b) it's only the phone call that's free - the service isn't.
Running Windows 7 64bit, and for the past few weeks I cannot download anything or use firefox/internet explorer. My problem began when I wanted to watch Thursday Night Footbal, and stupid me downloaded a single file that was a bad torrrent software. I accepted the one bad piece of garbage torrent software, and then a whole list unwanted and unauthorized software were rolled out and executed on my laptop. These unwanted software incuded 'Babylon:Translate Toolbar" among other useless pieces of bad software. The moment I hit the dreaded open and run, I knew there was a serious problem and I should have neve done that.
I have run several scans in their updated state when I was able to download updated viruse definitions for: Norton, Windows Security Essentials, Spybot, and something on the microsoft website. Spybot and Win Sec Essentials both found some garbage. Malware and a no less than 2 Trojans. I deleted both, but that was just the beginning of my problems. Because from that point forward, I slowly lost my ability to download anything.I can open FF/IE, but cannot connect to a webpage. when I type something it the URL I get hourglass and "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" I received a similiar warning in FF.
I spent a few days trying to uninstall a whole lot of unused programs and anything i viewed as unessential, including Firefox, ComcastSpyware, anything "Real" or Yahoo or MS Live/Messenger. The only way i'm able to communicated no is through the 64bit version of IE. Anyway, i wanted to download Norton Virus Removal tool yesterday, and have come to the point now where I cannot download anything.This is by far the worst thing that has ever happened to me in my 10 years and 4 computer life span. I'm considering a clean reformatting and starting anew, but i don't have the windows disks I got with this computer that is now 3 years old.perhaps even a way to bypass this virus, redirect, or unwanted firewall that is preventing me from downloading or surfing the web. Or B) Provide instructions on how to do a comlete drive wipe and arrive at a clean disk reformatting excercise without any windows disks.
Note: I do not want to avoid a system restore of any kind, as I've found those to be more problematic in some cases. I have not doneany system restores in the three+ years i've had this machine.
I've been trying to remove the Windows 7 Security 2012 virus, and I've been trying to follow the steps to rid my computer of this wretched virus, but when I run rkill or malware-bytes, my computer blue screens, I'm not sure what the error is, for my computer restarts quite soon afterwards.Since I can't run either of those programs, how am I supposed to get rid of this virus? I've never had this problem before, but since yesterday I've been encountering these blue screens.Should I just reformat? Is my RAM defective? Is it another program or virus causing this to happen?
Roughly a week ago for an unknown reason I became unable to log into Windows Live Messenger 2012.Up until this point I was using 2012 just fine. If I uninstall and install 2011 I can sign in fine, which seems to rule out firewall/antivirus issues. I can log in with my account on the web and other devices.If I re-install 2012I've tried virtually every process listed on the Internet and cannot resolve this. Worse, the error message has changed as I try different fixes. Currently it is 800706be. I've completely deleted Windows Essentials multiple times and always get the same issueMalwareBytes and Kaspersky scan comes back clean.
After this update to Windows Security Essentials, it takes 8 minutes for my desktop machine to start, instead of 2 minutes. Notified that "Could not connect to a System Event Notification Service". Went back to a restore point of 2 days earlier and got back to normal. However, Thunderbird e-mail client won't work and cannot be restarted. So rebooted and Windows update kicked in again and same problem. Looked at Windows updates and it cannot be uninstalled.
I am trying to turn on Windows Defender with no success. I click on the works turn on Windows Defender but it just keeps going on and on. I tried downloading it again with the wizard but it said it said the wizard was interrupted and try again when I do it does the same thing. i tried downloading it from the Windows site and after downloading the pop up said "You do not need to install this software because Windows Defender is included in Windows Vista (I have Windows 7) You can access Windows Defender from the security section of the Windows Control Panel". Again, I tried this but when I click on the words "turn Defender on" it just keeps going on and on without doing anything.
I am using 7 for the first time today - I was downloading Alvira anti-virus and was asked to disable Windows Defender. It said something about tools - options etc, but the only place I would find Windows Defender was in the program files and nothing about tools etc. Noting in system tray either.
The laptop is a Toshiba L455D-S5976 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. how to take it off of the computer but it was to no avail- downloading Spyware Doctor wasnt possible because the machine's internet connection is shot (due to Win 7 Antispyware 2012). I had Malwarebytes previously installed from an earlier fix, I update the definitions and scanned the PC, it came back with a few results but removing the found items had no effect. Same situation for SuperAntiSpyware and AdAware. I had to yank the malware out through the registry and now nothing can install, the PC is saying that there is no hardware (no ethernet controller, wifi, audio or anything). Windows Aero is disabled and isnt available to be selected- as if the graphics card doesnt support it.
I had Windows Live Mail 2011 and had no problems. Then I upgraded to Windows live mail 2012 and that is when the problems started. Opened defender panel and tried to go Tools , Options but i cant, no manipulation of any of the options is allowed from the defender menu, it seems to be waiting for me to download updates from the net. restoring Windows Firewall and Defender. I am running Windows 7 64 Bit. A few weeks ago I was infected by a trojan called "System Progressive protection". I used an uninstall guide for removal but I am unable to enable Windows Firewall and Defender. I get Error 0x800070424 whenever I try to open either Windows Firewall and Defender. I am using Windows 7 on my desktop and laptop.At the end of each week I run Malwarebytes and Superantispyware.I can no longer open Windows Defender unless it has an icon with a castle and blue flag? Microsoft security essentials is running and it says Real time protection on Virus and spyware definitions up to date.Is that enough protection or should I be running another anti virus program?
ive been looking all over google and all i found was that winlogin.exe is a randex/RBOT virus (i honestly dont know what that means) but i could not find any solutions on how to get rid of it. Ive deleted it from my startup programs but i still think its somewhere in my computer and i cannot find it. Windows Defender will not turn back on, it freezes when i try, but windows firewall is still working. can anyone give me a fix PLEASE? i really dont want to restore my computer to that long ago or reset it completely, unless its the ONLY choice.
I am running Windows 7, 64bit with 12 GB of RAM. My memory usage is usually around 2-3 GB. About once a day, Windows Defender eats all my memory. For a few minutes the computer is slow (even if running i7-980) then Defender releases the memory and everything is back to normal. I know it's Windows Defender because as soon as I see memory going high, if I stop the Windows Defender service, the memory goes right back to normal.
Is there anything I can do except disabling the service?

Win 7 professional 64 SP1 all patches applied till today. Some days ago I got a Definitions Update, like many others before. But this time it failed to apply with an numeric code. Since I don't have MS Security Essentials (never installed it for what I can recall) and just have free Avira, Spyware Blaster and Malware Bytes, it should not be disabled or something. After reading a number of posts on the MS forums I tried manually starting the defender service, which failed with error 126 (could not find its mpsvc.dll DLL). I noticed the required DLL, along with a couple others, was in Program Files, while the registry entry for it was set to %ProgramFiles (86)%\Windows Defender\mpsvc.dll. Not willing to fiddle with the registry, I just applied a .reg fix others on the MS support forums found useful to fix this issue with. But it did not help. The definitions update indeed worked but now the defender service won't start at all and shows as disabled (trying to start it does nothing, no error, no Windows logs in events viewer.
Got the Alureon.a trojan/rootkit. Downloaded the Windows Defender Offline and ran it successfully, but now I can not get past the "Verifying DMI pool data....".I've read countless posts about doing F8 or F10 to go into Advanced Boot Options, but neither of those respond. So I can not change the /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN.Only things I can go into are the Boot Menu (F12) and BIOS Setup (Del). I've tried every possible combo of Alt+F10, Ctrl+F8, etc. to no avail. Hitting (ESC) to go into Safe Mode option does not work either. Nor vigorously tapping of F8 or F10.
a while back, my computer was infected with a windows antivirus... virus. Essentially, it took over the windows defender and warned me about fake viruses so that it could get me to download more. I was able to clear that up on the bleepingcomputer forums, but was told to go elsewhere to fix my updater and defender. I messed around with Windows Defender some time ago and now its screwed I think.I have Windows 7 Home Basic, Windows Defender came with it.When I first installed Windows 7 there was always a process in Task Manager for Windows Defender "MsMpEng.exe" and maybe another one.Windows Defender is running properly if I check it in Control Panel but it is not appearing in Task Manager > Processes.services.msc > It is set to Automatic (Delayed Start) which I think is correct.How can I get the processes back running in Task Manager > Processes?
When I try to delete this program from the program files and program files(x86) folderes, I get a message that I need permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes. So I went into the properties and changed the sharing settings, to share with myself of course. I have only been able to give myself permissions in one of the folders. After doing this, it lets me begin deleting. It begins going through several screens informing that it is a shared folder, that deleting it will affect other users but it eventually comes back to the message that I need permission to get rid of something on myown computer!
