Windows Defender Eating All Memory?

I am running Windows 7, 64bit with 12 GB of RAM. My memory usage is usually around 2-3 GB. About once a day, Windows Defender eats all my memory. For a few minutes the computer is slow (even if running i7-980) then Defender releases the memory and everything is back to normal. I know it's Windows Defender because as soon as I see memory going high, if I stop the Windows Defender service, the memory goes right back to normal.
Is there anything I can do except disabling the service?

I am running Windows 7 64bit. From time to time (every few days), I get something eating all my available memory (going from 2 GB to 12 GB in a few minutes). I cannot pinpoint the process doing this. And then 20 minutes later the memory goes back to normal. I noticed that the second process eating the most memory (svchost.exe (secsvcs)) is gone right after that.

I'm having a bit of a problem where all of my RAM is getting eaten away by something i don't know. I have noticed that when i start some programs the RAM Just keep going away but when i then look in task manager or Resource Monitor there is nothing taking up that much RAM. i have 4GB RAM

Today I had a power cut whilst using my PC, since then certain keys don't work. These are 1-6, r and a couple of others I can't remember (sorry). The 1-6 also doesn't work from the numpad.I have tried a different keyboard and the on-screen keyboard, both give the same result.But here's the interesting part, if I login as my admin user on the same machine, all keys work fine.So it appears to be an issue with my Limited user account. I've tried changing my keyboard region settings to US, but I had the same issue. I can't perform a system restore as I don't have it running and I can't restore from my backup as I've discovered it hasn't been backing up for the last few months
One solution would be to create a new limited user account, but in the past after a re-install it takes me a couple of weeks to get my user account configured exactly the way I like it. All those minor config changes you forget about in various applications. So I'm hoping their's an easier way.Does anyone know how I can reset the keyboard key bindings for my user account, or any other suggestions. I'm at a complete loss here, never come across this before.

I've noticed WmiPrvSE.exe eating up a ton of my cpu, i know i need to re-paste my cpu but it shouldn't be idling this hot or using 50%+ idling. It is in the system32 folder and it isn't a virus from what i can see. [code]

Running Windows 7 ultimate on a dell e4300 with 4gb ram and 2.26ghz cpu. While doing nothing the cpu will jump to 100%. chk msconfig and hide ms apps and nothing shows up. try to restart pc and scrn tells me i have a bkground pgm running (no more info) and does a forced restart. after restart ms sec essentials will not start then all of a sudden pc shuts off. restart in safe mode and no probs. restart again and pc running fine for now.

Ok i installed Windows 7 but i did a reformat of vista and removed the trash and bloatware that came with my computer. Before i did this my vista would run at 1.4 to 1.7 gigs of ram. I did what i said and upgraded to Windows 7 and noticed that i was running at 740mb or ram and i was very happy. But after being on for a couple of minutes my ram usage went from 740mb to 2.2 gigs.
I looked at what was eating it up and i have 2 svhost that are eating massive amounts. But not everytime i boot only about 80% of the time. I never had this with vista it was a constant 1.4 to 1.7 unless i was gaming.

I.ow, which precise programs are running stealthily and eating up my data. I can actually see from my Modem Interface how the data is consumed.I would also like to know How do I use Wireshark to capture wireless traffic? Do I require an add-on card to do this?

I am trying to turn on Windows Defender with no success. I click on the works turn on Windows Defender but it just keeps going on and on. I tried downloading it again with the wizard but it said it said the wizard was interrupted and try again when I do it does the same thing. i tried downloading it from the Windows site and after downloading the pop up said "You do not need to install this software because Windows Defender is included in Windows Vista (I have Windows 7) You can access Windows Defender from the security section of the Windows Control Panel". Again, I tried this but when I click on the words "turn Defender on" it just keeps going on and on without doing anything.

I am using 7 for the first time today - I was downloading Alvira anti-virus and was asked to disable Windows Defender. It said something about tools - options etc, but the only place I would find Windows Defender was in the program files and nothing about tools etc. Noting in system tray either.

There seems to be nothing in Action Center that is relevant and I can't uninstall Defender as there's no option so I went to Services and disabled it. Still I get the message. I've tried a Command Prompt that should have disabled it, but no luck. I went to the AVG forum which is definitely not user friendly. I rang the free phone number only to find that a) I couldn't hear the operator and she couldn't hear me and b) it's only the phone call that's free - the service isn't.

just got lappy with win 7. Taking long time to warm to it but getting there. Need to install Kaspersky internet security 2010 3-user before i go internet with new machine.reading the literature on this site and following it to the letter, i have been trying to disable windows defender but no joy.WHAT I HAVE DONE1. msconfig - there is nothing at all under 'startup' but found it in 'services' tried to 'stop' but theres a note that says some important windows services cannot be disabled. what? that cant be right.
2. Opened defender panel and tried to go Tools , Options but i cant, no manipulation of any of the options is allowed from the defender menu, it seems to be waiting for me to download updates from the net. (No way jose until i got kaspersky on it!)3. ctrl+alt+del, Task Manager, Services, found defender, right click to stop service and window pops up to say 'Operation cant be completed, access denied' . I am administrator as there is only one user.4.am looking for this services.msc but i cant find it. what is it?

restoring Windows Firewall and Defender. I am running Windows 7 64 Bit. A few weeks ago I was infected by a trojan called "System Progressive protection". I used an uninstall guide for removal but I am unable to enable Windows Firewall and Defender. I get Error 0x800070424 whenever I try to open either Windows Firewall and Defender.
I am currently using anti-virus software provided by my internet service provider, but I would still like the option of having Windows Firewall and Defender available to me.

I am using Windows 7 on my desktop and laptop.At the end of each week I run Malwarebytes and Superantispyware.I can no longer open Windows Defender unless it has an icon with a castle and blue flag? Microsoft security essentials is running and it says Real time protection on Virus and spyware definitions up to date.Is that enough protection or should I be running another anti virus program?

ive been looking all over google and all i found was that winlogin.exe is a randex/RBOT virus (i honestly dont know what that means) but i could not find any solutions on how to get rid of it. Ive deleted it from my startup programs but i still think its somewhere in my computer and i cannot find it. Windows Defender will not turn back on, it freezes when i try, but windows firewall is still working. can anyone give me a fix PLEASE? i really dont want to restore my computer to that long ago or reset it completely, unless its the ONLY choice.

Win 7 professional 64 SP1 all patches applied till today. Some days ago I got a Definitions Update, like many others before. But this time it failed to apply with an numeric code. Since I don't have MS Security Essentials (never installed it for what I can recall) and just have free Avira, Spyware Blaster and Malware Bytes, it should not be disabled or something. After reading a number of posts on the MS forums I tried manually starting the defender service, which failed with error 126 (could not find its mpsvc.dll DLL).
I noticed the required DLL, along with a couple others, was in Program Files, while the registry entry for it was set to %ProgramFiles (86)%\Windows Defender\mpsvc.dll. Not willing to fiddle with the registry, I just applied a .reg fix others on the MS support forums found useful to fix this issue with. But it did not help. The definitions update indeed worked but now the defender service won't start at all and shows as disabled (trying to start it does nothing, no error, no Windows logs in events viewer.

Got the Alureon.a trojan/rootkit. Downloaded the Windows Defender Offline and ran it successfully, but now I can not get past the "Verifying DMI pool data....".I've read countless posts about doing F8 or F10 to go into Advanced Boot Options, but neither of those respond. So I can not change the /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN.Only things I can go into are the Boot Menu (F12) and BIOS Setup (Del). I've tried every possible combo of Alt+F10, Ctrl+F8, etc. to no avail. Hitting (ESC) to go into Safe Mode option does not work either. Nor vigorously tapping of F8 or F10.

a while back, my computer was infected with a windows antivirus... virus. Essentially, it took over the windows defender and warned me about fake viruses so that it could get me to download more. I was able to clear that up on the bleepingcomputer forums, but was told to go elsewhere to fix my updater and defender. I messed around with Windows Defender some time ago and now its screwed I think.I have Windows 7 Home Basic, Windows Defender came with it.When I first installed Windows 7 there was always a process in Task Manager for Windows Defender "MsMpEng.exe" and maybe another one.Windows Defender is running properly if I check it in Control Panel but it is not appearing in Task Manager > Processes.services.msc > It is set to Automatic (Delayed Start) which I think is correct.How can I get the processes back running in Task Manager > Processes?

When I try to delete this program from the program files and program files(x86) folderes, I get a message that I need permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes. So I went into the properties and changed the sharing settings, to share with myself of course. I have only been able to give myself permissions in one of the folders. After doing this, it lets me begin deleting. It begins going through several screens informing that it is a shared folder, that deleting it will affect other users but it eventually comes back to the message that I need permission to get rid of something on myown computer!

I lost Windows Defender. I had a few Trojans pop in last week. It was the Sirefef.p, and a few others I can't remember their other names. I think I have gotten rid of all of them. Now just trying to get back what they took. I had an Error code "0x80070424" with my Firewall. I followed these instructions here: [URL]. My Firewall is back up and running now. But my Windows Defender isn't working. It isn't even in my PC any-longer. These Trojans even uninstalled my Microsoft Security Essentials. But I got that reinstalled. FireFox 7, Windows 7..I have made a toolbar button that allows me call up various programs directly from FF using these instructions: http:[url]..... Basically, the button contains the shortcut pathways to each program.The button recognizes a folder in Windows Explorer into which are placed the shortcuts to the desired programs. Everything works just fine except that apps from Windows don't(viz., Snipping Tool and Windows Defender.)When they are selected, get an error message that the file can't be found.I'm thinking that although I believe that I have the right pathway (clicking on these files within the button's folder does call them up),I probably don't. By the way, I'd also like to add Windows Explorer, but don't know its shortcut pathway.

I recently had some problems in my windows. Out of many problems in windows 2 were that windows update was not working and secondly dialogue boxes did not have texts on it. I ran a quick WDO on windows from Boot and the scan was successful. It found some Malwares and removed it aftet which the above 2 mentioned problems ran away.. But; when I did a full Scan so that problems completly eridate away; BSOD occurred and could not complete the task.. I tried it twice an both the times same thing happened..
