Jul 15, 2010I have a Dell Vostro 1500, running 32-bit Windows 7. It came with Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7 a couple months ago, which I think is causing the issues I'm experiencing. According to whoever I'm speaking with, the sound for the microphone built in to my webcam fades in and out and gets really loud randomly. In an attempt to solve this, I bought an external microphone which also does not work. The sound driver is the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, version 6.10.0.5614. When I tried to update it through Windows 7's update driver software it says I have the best version for my system, but I still suspect that this could be what is causing the problem.

I can see only headphones under the tab "Playback". I have the latest realtek drivers AC'97 audio and the high definition audio in the device manager but both have a yellow exclamation mark next to them. It's getting a little annoying due to i listen to music from when i get up to i go to sleep and i have some spare time right now so i thought why not try to fix it. For now I want to say some thing, when I use this caple ( I have 3 oh this and i connect it ith my pc were Green and Orange and Black) from my speaker to my PC( in the speaker were its says AUX audio input L and R)I can go and set up my speaker to 5.1 so I can hear all the speaker work but, they all the same I dont feel any different.However, if I went to my PC audie settieng to check if I am using 5.1, I see I am using 2.1 but still the sounds come from all the speaker because of the speaker itself can change the audio but as I said this is not a 5.1 it is 2.1 because when I test it from my PC for 5.1 I only I can hear the right and left work. WhenI do the test and my right and left works as if the pc telling me, my speakers all of them work as if they are just right and left. So. since my speaker do not have SPDIF is there is a way to make it work ? I do not want to buy a DVD just to connect my speaker to it and then from the DVD to my TV.

Jun 10, 2010I have a new install of Windows 7 (OEM Home Premium). The PC formally was used for Windows XP. The hard drive became corrupted and I figured if I was going to replace the HD anyways, I may as well upgrade to Windows 7. Under XP I had no issues with the on board sound card. The install went very smoothly except for the sound. The Playback Devices screen only lists Digital Audio (HDMI) and Digital Audio (S/PDIF) as possible devices. I'm trying to enable ordinary speakers. I downloaded the Win7 version of the the ATI Hight Def Audio Device drivers (I was using the XP version before the corruption issue). They appear to install fine but after the reboot, there is no sign of the drivers anywhere.
