Sep 19, 2011After becoming unable to download identified updates in Windows Update, and also being unable to search for new updates, I did a detailed scan with Microsoft Security Essentials which identified and removed some malware (Exploit:Java/CVE-2010-0840.IZ).
Since Windows Update still wouldn't work I restored my settings from last Friday with no improvement. Using Fix problems with Windows Update gets stuck on Fixing problem.
I then tried to do a reinstall as an update, but the installer was unable to find any updates (or rather it was forever* trying to locate any).
On a tip from a friend I looked in the hosts file but it was unaltered. *Forever is a relative term but in this case it's 90+ minutes.

It freezes randomdly when watching internet video from any source (all the way from Netflix, to you tube or private sites). When freezed it doies not respond to anything! Monitoring shows CPU with zero activity. Sometimes I can only move the mouse, but it does not respond to any click. I freezes anywhere from a couple of seconds to a couple of minutes (while having crazy sound) but then it continues running normally, excuting the clicks done while frozen. It happens very often.It does not happend when playing video fron hard drive, nor whith any other situation; only when playing streaming video. Video is well buffered.

Computer Freezes During Video Playback
Jan 20, 2013So my computer started freezing randomly during video playback and just gets stuck with the sound also looping at a millisecond interval... Anyway I can repeat this error if I play any video full screen for a long enough time period. I did some research on this problem and found that it could be the RAM OR PSU... I used memTEST see if it could possibly be my RAM, But unfortunately do not know how to interpret the errors it gives out correctly, the results are attached. Someone please tell me what I should do if my results read as errors or not.

Web Video = Frozen Computer (all Browsers)
Oct 21, 2009I've been having this issue since I installed Windows 7 x64 RC, basically any time I view a web video my computer is liable to freeze up completely, with the sound producing awful static, needing a hard reset.
I've tried all browsers and it makes no difference. I've tried a variety of solutions others have posted about frozen computers =I've tried reinstalling browsers and flash. I've tried updating GPU drivers, downgrading GPU drivers. I've tried the windows lan driver, I've tried my manufacturers windows 7 driver. None of it makes any difference. I can otherwise browse and download fine. I can play games fine and I ran a stress test and it found no issues with the CPU/RAM.
And the damnedest thing is, I can go to one of those flash game sites and boot up 20 games and my computer doesn't even slow down, let alone freeze. I'm at a loss here, I can't single any component out, not even flash itself.

Nov 20, 2011This is a problem that has only been occurring over the last month or 2 (had my computer for 2/3years). Quite often I will watch something on my computer when i go to bed - either a dvd, or streaming something from a website. Sometimes i fall asleep whilst these programmes are still playing and i will wake up in the morning to find my computer and monitor still turned on, instead of doing what they should do - monitor to turn off after 20minutes, computer to sleep after 45minutes.The computer will go to sleep after the desired time if its not doing anything at all so i assume it has something to do with the media settings/files. I have a custom plans setting for power options and in advanced settings > multimedia, it IS set to 'allow the computer to sleep when sharing media, so im not sure what else to try.As an additional note, this is something ive started to notice but im not so sure how relevant it is:The odd thing is, it seems to vary when it decides it wants to sleep. I was playing things through windows media player and it wouldnt sleep after 45minutes.. so i tried playing things through vlc media player instead. That seemed to work as the computer would go to sleep, so i figured it was just the programme causing the problem, but then after a few days of using vlc the computer wouldnt sleep anymore. The same goes for streaming stuff - using megavideo the computer wouldnt sleep, but when it was streamed from videobb it would. Then after a few days of using videobb it would stop going to sleep again...

This isn't really the most pressing of issues, but I'm curious as to why it's happening.I set my PC up to the home network, added video folders to the media center library and all that jazz, and everything seems to work just fine. Only issue is, after some time of not using it, when I go to watch something on the Xbox, my PC doesn't show up. It's set not to fall asleep, so it should be actively showing up on the network. I go into my room and reset it and it shows up just fine after that. This has happened more than once.
