Computer Freezes When Playing Video Games
Jun 13, 2012
I've had a problem with video games. They would freeze and only way to turn of my computer is through the power cable or power switch on back of desktop. After that if i try to turn on my computer it would freeze at random moments without letting me even get the my screen (this, what im doin now) and i need to let it "cool off" for hours before it lets me go back, no this is not a heat issue my heat is no higher than 43degrees most of time blow 40.

Here's the thing, when I play games on the computer, after a few minutes until it freezes and becomes a buzzing sound, requires restart.I've tried everything, graphics measure temperature, core, changing RAM slots, install the drivers, Direct X changed, still nothing. Hard disk has changed, changed RAM. Nothing yet.I bought a new graphics NVIDIA GTX 460, and put a new power supply from the 550w Does anyone have a solution or to change the motherboard, everything but the game works!?

After my last graphics card has died on me (HD6850), I have been able to borrow a friends GFX Card (HD5770) and have been having a strange problem - this problem is not unique to my computer, it also was happening in his computer when using the same GFX Card. What happens is that the computer will be running just fine, until I open a game. After opening a game it will run perfectly but then every minute of so it will freeze the whole computer for maybe 5-10 seconds. Whilst doing this the sound of hardware being removing and reinserting will play (the same sound that happens if you was to unplug and re insert a usb stick) And then this will persist as long as I have the game open, closing the game makes the problem go away.

My computer keeps freezing whenever I am playing games.I dont have any problem using the computer normal, only when gaming. Sometimes I can play all day without it freezing and other times for 5 minutes, its completely random. When it does freeze, the game image stays locked on the screen, my screen on my keyboard freezes,I cant use my mouse, or control alt delete or alt tab or anything, but i can still hear and talk to my friends in teamspeak. I have to manually reset the computer everytime to get it working again.I ran a memory test, checked the hard drive for errors, and even bought a new ssd and installed a game to that and it makes no difference. Its multiple games as well so one game is not the problem. My temperatures are also fine. I have done multiple fresh windows installed and that hasnt fixed it either.
System Specs if it helps:
-AMD Phemon 1090T
-16GB GSkillz Ripjaws 1333Mhz RAM
-Asus Crosshair IV Motherboard
-2 Ati Radeon 5870s
-OCZ Vertex 3 Max Iops 120GB
-Western Digital 1.5TB Cavalier Black
-750W OCZ Fat1lity PSU
I have always been afraid my PSU isnt big enough after my upgrades but if that was the issue wouldn't the whole computer just crash and reset. And i have used this setup with this PSU for a whilenow with no freezing issues.

my new Asus x54c is lagging all of a sudden everytime I play my video games and it is about a month old; I bought it brand new. is it dust on the fan? Should I be taking the back apart, pulling out the fan connection and checking to see if there is dust in there?

My computer freezes every five minutes or so while playing games or running Firefox. It's been doing this for the last 6 months and most of the time it freezes for a few minutes then runs fine for a while. Then it freezes again. Eventually I have to hard reboot.

i have been getting blue screens only while playing video games after about 20-40 min. I have been able to stop them, but to do so i have to set up a huge fan next to my computer. So i assumed the problem was from overheating. However, i recorded the temperatures with speed fan. These were the highest temperatures i noticed while playing games just before they give me a BSOD.GPU:77CTemp 1:82CTemp 2:49CTemp 3:-128CHDO: 40CCore:74CNow i don't know very much about computers but those temperatures dont seem very high for running high graphics video games.I also wrote down the error on the blue screen.STOP: 0x0000001E (0x0000000000000000,0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)I tried to upload the dump files but im a noob.

So before I begin, here are the stats of my laptop.Asus G60JX, Windows 7 - x64, Nvidia Geforce GTS 360M -OEM -1 1/2 years old. Have never reformatted or reinstalled OS. So i've had this gaming laptop for around 1 1/2 years old and it's been blue screening since as long as i can remember. I should have taken the laptop back but at that time i was not very knowledgeable about computers (still aren't), and didn't know how bad BSOD's were. As far as the BSOD's go, it actually doesn't occur too frequently, maybe like once every month or so. But, it has happened on a consistent basis, ever since as long as i can remember. 95% of the time, the BSOD's occur while playing games.

ever since last friday i have been getting bsod. my occured while playing lotro (lord of the rings online, mmo) and while playing windowd i tried to play a Internet video. which has never given me any problems before. also msn and some other firefox tabs were open.then saturday and sunday more bsod came in. during browsing, during doing nothing, on the windows inlog screen. i can't really put my finger on it. putting load on the system doesn't trigger it, nor does firefox, lotro, seems a bit random.only software stuff that changed since friday is a java update, daily avira anti virus definitions update and i installed guild wars 2.i tried to look at the bluescreens logs myself, but i really have no clue what i'm looking at, so if you could check for me that would be awesome.

I recently got a 32" tv which I am using as a monitor, hooked up using hdmi. During gameplay my computer freezes for a second or less and then everything is fine. This only happens when I play games. I was wondering if its because of the tv my gpu has to push out more power b/c of the hdmi setup? My previous monitor was an hyundai 17" crt using a vga cable.I don't think it has anything to do with any particular game b/c they all ran fine before at 1280 x 960, and I now run games at either 1280 x 720 or 1360 x 768.Do I need a more powerful PSU, the one I have is a Xtech 500W with a over a years use. my hdd died, so i opted for a fresh install of windows 7 professional on the new hdd. i reinstalled all my programs and drivers and such. but i've had the same problem ever since:sometimes, randomly, when i start my computer, these things happen all at once:microsoft games (solitaire, minesweeper, majong, etc.) will not open. i double-click on them, and then nothing. no error, nothing to indicate the computer is trying to open them. if i go directly to the application and try to open them there, same thing. video does not play correctly. in wmp, it just plays the audio and displays a small screenshot of the video (as if it were album art).
divx player won't play anything at all. vlc player would open a separate screen called yuv sdl output. but the latest update for vlc fixed that. if i try to play a dvd, i get this error:windows media player cannot play dvd video. you might need to adjust your windows display settings. open display settings in control panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings. changing the settings does nothing. in radeon catalyst control center, when i'm adjusting the video settings, i will get an error stating the sample video cannot load. if i were to play a game like portal 2 or fallout: new vegas, nothing happens. i put in the disc, and nothing happens. i double-click on the disc, and nothing happens - just as with the windows games. all of these happen at once, randomly, when i start my computer - sometimes everything works fine, sometimes it all stops working. restarting my laptop usually fixes the problem.i went through and updated all my drivers, including the graphics drivers and updated radeon catalyst control center.
-edit-when on Internet or other streaming media sites (doesn't matter which player is being used) if i try to go fullscreen, it turns the screen black and opens a new tab called adobe flash player. but this "tab" is just transparent and nothing displays. the sound still displays fine though. i also can't do anything. everywhere i click, it just stops/plays the sound (as if it was in fullscreen). i have to hit windows+tab or ctrl+alt+delete to get back to regular view.
-edit 2-found another thing affected. i went to check my windows experience index score and it said there is no information available; you haven't run the test yet. but i have multiple times. so i go to run it and nothing happened. i tried several times but had no response.

Just recently my laptop has been freezing during video playback. The audio stutters or runs out of sync with the video, the video becomes grainy and jumping 3 or 4 seconds at a time. Just generally struggles to cope with the file. It varies as to how long this takes to kick in. Some times it's half way through a film, sometimes within a few seconds. Once it starts everything is painfully slow and I have to reboot. I've also noticed it takes much longer to reboot sometimes.
I checked in my programs and the Adobe Plug-in had an "X" over it so I uninstalled and then re-installed, thinking I'd found the issue, but it's still the same.
I've run AVG to look for viruses and also cleaned up the registry and so forth with other software but the problem remains. It only starts though when I run video files, this is what seems to start it.

my computer did have BSOD problem since I've tried to add 2 GB of RAM on my Windows XP SP 3 on October 2011. BSOD came out after playing a game for 6-30 minutes (or game application crashed) or viewing a video (random occurence). After getting no results of all to cure BSOD, I decided to change my OS to Windows 7 and I still got this problem. I've tried to bring my CPU to service center with no luck at all.
Here, I attached my recent dump and perfmon report with it. Although a few hours before I post this thread, I cleaned earlier dumps with CCleaner. I'll be sure to attach new dump and report if another BSOD occurs. And let me know if my attached files get corrupted or cannot be read. Attachment 214777 Attachment 214778
Oh yeah, another thing, my antivirus scanner detected BSOD & System File Collection app as a virus, so I ignored it.
So my computer spec is :
Windows 7 x86 Ultimate
Intel Core2Duo CPU E4600 @ 2.40 Ghz
2 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 SE

I apologize in advance if my post is missing any information; I attempted to follow the directions for properly posting but while I'm am computer functional, I'm not overly computer literate. [code] The system constantly crashes when playing video games and games consistently lag. We have completely re-installed the OS and replaced all parts in the PC at least twice. When the system crashes the speakers buzz loudly, although sometimes it sounds like it's coming from the computer itself. We switched from Nvidia because everything has checked out and it was hoped that the problem was the hardware not playing nice to no avail. I'm still getting the same error/crash. The problem is that I will get a system lock up, or freeze when playing games like Portal 2 or FM2012. The freezes are very random however they occur the most when trying to play Co-op in Portal 2 (say about 80% of the time when trying to play it). However with the likes of FM2012 or other games, I can literally play for hours on end without a crash, but other times a crash could happen within about 5 mins.I also seem to randomly crash if I watch a HD video in full screen (1920x1080) however I cannot recall such a problem watching it minimized (using VLC). I also used to get random crashes while browsing the internet on certain websites, however I haven't had this issue since upgrading my RAM.
When the PC does crash, the monitor will just black out and if sound was playing at the time it will usually loop or repeat. The only thing I can do is a hard reboot and upon restarting the PC it will say about the unexpected shut down and to start windows normally however I don't seem to get any minidumps. I've had this problem now for quite awhile, and at first it was something I just overlooked as a random occurance but now its starting to drive me crazy! My system specs are as follows:[CODE]

this first started occurring on monday the 24th, i played a Internet video on firefox and the video lagged with a black screen on the first 1-2 seconds of the video. at around 3 seconds, everything stopped. my cursor, the video, the whole laptop etc. the time was no longer moving on the video and my system time wasn't changing either so i concluded that my laptop was frozen. i waited it out and there was nothing i could do but hold down the power button in an attempt to try and turn.at this point i'm still able to watch Internet videos on chrome perfectly, however... playing a video file from my hard drive produces the same problem. i've tried playing files from both wmp and vlc player, and the same thing happened both times.what i've tried:
- uninstalled and then re-installed my display driver
- i tried a system restore yesterday and got a bsod before my laptop even got to shut down
- i did a successful system restore to the 22nd via safe mode
- searched the web for solutions but couldn't find anything
-reinstalling windows (i'm in the middle of doing uni work atm so i'm trying to avoid this)
-buying a new laptop (when i get the money)
may be useful:
-i was getting quite a few "low ram" messages from the system on the day that it first occurred, before it first occurred. haven't seen anymore of them, however.
-playing 3gp and mp3 files on wmp is fine

When using my computer it will sometimes crash every now and then, it will however crash as soon as I start playing a game. For example when within World of Warcraft it will crash pretty much instantly, I have got a memory dump of which I have attached to this post. I have tried reinstalling the graphics drivers, using the latest drivers from the nVidia website. This started to happen after reinstalling Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Computer turns off in middle of game, could be PSU problem.2. While booting, two options are provided; Repair windows ( recommended ) or Start windows normally. I choose option 1 but goes back to startup then option 2 goes back to startup.I tried everything from going to safemode, restoring, safe mode with command prompt, changing configuration on BIOS, reseting bios and unplugging rams and graphics card. And it still goes back to startup.I believe its a graphics card problem? And one time I got a blue screen saying that its an unsolvable problem and its due to a hardware problem.my specs;Windows 7AMD Phenom II x 4Msi 790 xt motherboard4 gigs A-DataNvidia Geforce 250 gts raphics card evgaPsu tx 750 Watt Corsair

I wanted to start this thread about my computer that shuts down as soon as certain games start.I have an alienware Area 51 ALX
12 gb ram
amd 6990 saphire card (I have 2 but removed one and get the same problem)
I7-975
CPU is liquid cooled
1.2 kw power supply
(Almost all the parts from the motherboard, video cards, radiator, fans, power supply, have been replaced already and the error continues.)
Troubleshooting I did:
Ran this dell mem test thing and all memory passed
Checked cpu using torture test with prime95: no errors
used GPU-Z: temps dont seem to get that high
The games dont even run this is on a clean install of windows 7 nothing else installed except fresh video card drivers 12.4 and steam. As soon as I switch this one game Cursed crusade for example to 1920x1080 resolution the computer just reboots, no bsod or anything. Other games once the game starts it reboots. At this point they want me to do a system exchange, the problem is my machine they dont make anymore, which would mean downsizing to an alienware aurora that with dual 6990's I am pretty sure would melt.I would like to keep this system so I would rather find a solution since it may be something that I have not checked.I see the same error as previously before doing a clean install. (also os is on diff hard drive now)
I get event Id 41 kernel-power The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first this error could be caused if the system stopped responding, or lost power unexpectedly.

I have a problem which is that when I play games the screen goes black and then it plays the audio that was playing at that moment quickly and repeatedly for 2 or 3 seconds and then the computer will restart. After the computer restarts it won't work so I have to manually turn off the computer and then turn it back on. This happens on the majority of games that I play.

First I'll explain the problem about 6 months ago I had a PSU blow out on me, so I replaced it and all was well for a time when the PC would shut down and then restart without even showing a BSOD, at first it was now and then but gradually got worse. At first I thought it might of been the CPU overheating, I also thought that when the PSU blew it caused damage to the MB. So over a period of time I have ended up replacing all the hardware. For a time it seemed okay but the problem soon returned. (just to note it only shuts down when playing or starting games, I can surf the net or play videos etc without a problem).
My next thought was that it was a software conflict so I have ended up rebuilding a second PC, with a new HDD just incase it was a virus etc, I've loaded Windows 7 (home) 32bit, installed the graphics card (GeForce 560 Ti) with latest Nvidia drivers and a Asus sound card. I then installed Minecraft just as a test game and sure enough it crashes.
