Everything was working fine until I tried to upgrade my nvidia drivers to play BF3 and since then I can't figure out why it won't work. No Video Display After Random Crash
Nov 5, 2012i cannot find any information on across the internet.things to know:
-i am using an acer aspire m3802 on a windows 7 os
-750gb storage space
-4gb ram
-i use an nvidia geforce gt 230 graphics card
-both disc drives are nearly full
-i have recently installed two video editing programmes (30 day trials)
-for about half a year my computer has had minor glitches when playing Internet videos or music
so i was on the surfing the internet and my monitor suddenly goes completely black. the fan was still going and the lights were still on, but i couldn't interract with the computer because i had no display whatsoever. about an hour beforehand i had been converting some hd video files, which was probably using up a lot of memory, and i had been skyping too. the computer had been running a lot more slowly over the past couple of days, but had shown no signs of being about to break. so i turned the computer off and then tried to reboot it. the acer logo appeared, but after that nothing else happened, not even the 'start windows normally' screen. the mouse still lit up and the computer seemed to be alive, but it downright refused to display anything at all. when i briefly tilted it, however, the display popped up for another millisecond. i tried rebooting this morning, at which point the 'acer' screen briefly flashed up. i managed to start it up in 'safe mode' and the core features of the computer appear to be working. however, when i tried to access the internet, the error '0x80131018' appeared. (this may be completely irrelevant but every piece of information helps!) so we can basically rule out that the monitor is playing up, which makes me wonder how far inside the computer the problem is hidden.
BSOD: Video Driver Crash
Sep 4, 2012i was playing a game in google chrome and also had a Internet video open in another tab. suddenly my screen went black, windows aero effects were off for a few seconds, then they went back up. white bars started to appear randomly on the screen, an error popped up that the video driver had crashed. after a couple of seconds it looked like it was getting back but then the screen went black again and the bsod appeared.

Jul 23, 2012While the system is running (most of the times while playing, other times doing other thing like video-calls or even being idle on the desktop) the video drivers crash, creating distorsions and artifacts on the screen. Sometimes the pc manages to recover it, sometimes it crashes/bsod forcing me to reboot. Also, when i have to reboot i must shut down the pc and turn off the PSU because with a simple reboot the problem would start as soon as windows finishes its startup. After trying different versions of the video drivers, different hardware configurations and stress-testing the CPU and the RAM of the video card withount encountering any errors, i noticed that the problem affetcs only my video card/drivers under WIN7 (Ultimate 64bit). In fact, under XP i never encountered such errors. I don't know what other things i could do to understand and solve the problem.

Apr 21, 2012my hdd died, so i opted for a fresh install of windows 7 professional on the new hdd. i reinstalled all my programs and drivers and such. but i've had the same problem ever since:sometimes, randomly, when i start my computer, these things happen all at once:microsoft games (solitaire, minesweeper, majong, etc.) will not open. i double-click on them, and then nothing. no error, nothing to indicate the computer is trying to open them. if i go directly to the application and try to open them there, same thing. video does not play correctly. in wmp, it just plays the audio and displays a small screenshot of the video (as if it were album art).
divx player won't play anything at all. vlc player would open a separate screen called yuv sdl output. but the latest update for vlc fixed that. if i try to play a dvd, i get this error:windows media player cannot play dvd video. you might need to adjust your windows display settings. open display settings in control panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings. changing the settings does nothing. in radeon catalyst control center, when i'm adjusting the video settings, i will get an error stating the sample video cannot load. if i were to play a game like portal 2 or fallout: new vegas, nothing happens. i put in the disc, and nothing happens. i double-click on the disc, and nothing happens - just as with the windows games. all of these happen at once, randomly, when i start my computer - sometimes everything works fine, sometimes it all stops working. restarting my laptop usually fixes the problem.i went through and updated all my drivers, including the graphics drivers and updated radeon catalyst control center.
-edit-when on Internet or other streaming media sites (doesn't matter which player is being used) if i try to go fullscreen, it turns the screen black and opens a new tab called adobe flash player. but this "tab" is just transparent and nothing displays. the sound still displays fine though. i also can't do anything. everywhere i click, it just stops/plays the sound (as if it was in fullscreen). i have to hit windows+tab or ctrl+alt+delete to get back to regular view.
-edit 2-found another thing affected. i went to check my windows experience index score and it said there is no information available; you haven't run the test yet. but i have multiple times. so i go to run it and nothing happened. i tried several times but had no response.

I've been attempting to troubleshoot it but I'm not to sure about how to find the cause of the problem. Based on my google search, which led me here, it's caused by either RAM, HDD, Drivers or overheating. When I click on "No thanks" another window for free trial opened. This was an endless loop. The IP camera video stream is H264 format and streams just fine on my other Windows 7 PC. Well, to make a long story short; the Win 7 Pro machine did not have QuickTime player installed which provided the H264 codec needed. I installed QuickTime and the IP camera now streams via realPlayer 14. I suspect you could install any H264 codec and accomplish the same thing and avoid the Plus upgrade.

I followed other web sites and repaired my MBR but it still will not boot up. I tried System Repair, Check point, Image, and Dell system restore and all failed. I have tried to use the Windows install CD and all I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor and then after 3 minutes the compute attempts to boot again and fails. I tried everything to try and wipe the drive from C prompt and it will not let me. I have very weak computer skills but I can follow directions and I have wiped a previous computer I owned. (I confirmed that my CD drive is working) I also should mention I have a second hard drive on my computer that I backed everything up to.

I figured I must have touched the wrong buttons so when it reloaded, I went right back to what I had been doing, which was unrar things from the past and reading them. However, I couldn't unrar something; it wasn't giving me the extract option. Trying to do "open with" didn't do anything either. So I tried to open firefox to look for answer, that wouldn't load. Tried to open Adware to run a virus scan, that wouldn't load. The mouse will change and get the little hour glass, but nothing pops up. I reduced a lot of my graphics to see if it was overloading the system, but that hasn't helped. I am able to open folders, but can't open word documents or photoshop or anything else. I put a word document on a flash drive and opened it here at work, so it's not the files themselves. I even had the task manager open while trying to click on these items and it looks like the system isn't even attempting to open these programs because nothing new pops up on the task manager's list. I'm not sure how to force a virus check if I can't open the program. I'm not sure what else it could be if it's not some virus/spyware. Any suggestions? Any way to force the virus program to run? Oct 17, 2012This problem just started one day with no warning. I found that the computer starts up perfectly fine, loads Windows 7, and logs me in. but, after that, everything is suddenly incredibly slow, with the start menu taking minutes to open and certain programs even taking tens of minutes to open. It will occasionally freeze and become non-responsive. So I booted into safe mode, where at first it seemed to be doing relatively fine, but after opening a couple programs/files, it slowed down dramatically again.
I've run quick scans from Avast, MBAM, and SAS with no result. At first I thought it was hard drive failure, but that doesn't explain why at first the computer loads up fine. I then thought maybe it's memory failing, so I used the memory diagnostic tool, using 2 passes. It went through the first pass without problem, but I never saw it complete the second pass because when I came back, the computer had restarted with an error message and leaving a minidump file.
The computer is a Toshiba Satellite P755-S5269. I've had it for over a year without problem.

I started to look into it, updated my graphics driver, lower the settings on the games, scanned for viruses. Nothing worked, then I downloaded Malware bytes and it detected svchost as a threat. The file is in Windows, instead of Windows\system32. I couldn't really remove this and I got frustrated by nothing fixing this problem so I decided to wipe my computer clean.
When I got back on the crashes continued and not only that, the svchost is still in the Windows folder. And today my computer detected, Trojan: DOS /Alureon, I don't know if that has to do with in relation to the svchost or if my problem is entirely something different. But high memory type of games such as APB reloaded, or the Secret World, cause my computer to crash almost every 5-10 minutes.

Dec 10, 2012My computer will not do anything past turning on. It is frozen on the first screen it shows, which is the screen that gives you your computer info and tells you to press F1 to resume. It says S.M.A.R.T. Capable and Status BAD; AHCI Port0 Device Error. It obviously does nothing when I click F1, I have tried control alt delete and clicking the escape key. The only action I have is to turn it off!
