View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen installing Windows 7 about a year ago, I plumped for partitioning off my hard drive to keep Windows XP and installing Windows 7 on separate partition.Recently I added an SSD and have installed Windows 7 on that and now I want to remove the XP partition, reallocate the available space to my Sata Windows 7 install to begin the (long) process of making the SSD the primary and only OS on the machine.I've copy boot.mgr and the boot folder to my SataWin7 drive and then restarted the computer with the DVD in, selecting repair so I can run command prompt.Running Diskpart, I deleted the XP partition but for some reason I'm getting an error when I try and make my sata Windows 7 partition the active partition. I've subsequently rebooted and repaired the machine to restore the Win XP partition so I can carry on booting the machine (hence I'm typing now), but can anyone throw light on to what the problem is here?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am about to reformat my hard drive, long story as to why, but I am starting from scratch. I know how to install windows, drivers etc. But one thing I am not sure about is configuring the RAID, as I wasn't the one who did it when we installed everything. I am asunming that when I reformat the RAID will need to be reconfigured? I have RAID 5 with three hard drives, each 500 GB. I have a program called Intel Rapid Storage Technology that "manages" the hard drives, but if I am correct I have to set up RAID before installing windows. How to configure the RAID the same way I currently have it? This is a homebuilt comp, i7 930 2.8 ghz, 6 GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, Gigabyte motherboard...

I am replacing the internal hard drive and I am attempting to install the factory system recovery image from the system recovery disc that I made when I bought the computer. After installing the drive and booting up from the recovery disc, I go into full factory recovery but when I go in to the option to "restore to factory default" the option is grayed out. Do I need to format the drive first? How do I do this outside of windows?
I would like to completely wipe the hard drive of my Lenovo Thinkpad as the Best Buy geek squad really messed things up. I need to back up all of my data first and was wondering if there was any free options online? I have a 4GB jump drive I can use as well.As for wiping the laptops hard drive, what is the best way? Keep in mind that I want to have it completely restored to factory state. I don't want to do a simple reformat through a Windows 7 install

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer has been slowly deteriorating the last few days. It first ran a system repair every time I started the computer and would then boot to the desktop, then it would just loop through the system repair screen over and over. I am thinking that my last option is to restore the computer to it's factory default since I have everything backed up on an external hard drive.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire 4730z laptop, upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate. Did the upgrade install, but unable to by-pass the eRecovery Management. The 3 options are 1. Restore system from factory default. 2. Restore system from user's backup and 3. Exit. Option 1 and 2 are grayed out. Have disable the D2D Recovery option in the Utility screen. But still unable to by-pass the eRecovery Management. If am unable to by-pass this, my only option is to insert my recovery disk and restore to factory default losing data store on HD.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI think my computer got a virus. It was working fine until i shut it down. I tried to turn it on the next day and it said something like "windows is trying to repair the problem" or something like that. I tried to restore it to an earlier date but the same thing kept happening, so I just decided to use the repair disks. I clicked the "recover to out-of-box" state and it started loading, then suddenly a window reading ," recovery factor default software" popped up, following with a smaller window titled , "Copy File" and reading. "Invalid MS-DOS function.PREINST7.SWM Type:SWM File.Size: 643 mb.date modified: 9/3/2009 2:11 am try again, skip, cancel " I have a Toshiba L455-S5975 Windows 7 home premium 32 bit What does this all mean, and more importantly, what do I do?

View 0 Replies View RelatedI have an HP dx7 laptop, which was experiencing repeated blue screens with many different error codes as well as periodically restarting seemingly at random. Occasionally it would also have the screen go black (looked like it entered sleep mode), which was unrecoverable.I tried to track down the various drivers and problems suggested by the error codes in the BSOD, but didn't have any success in preventing the blue screens/restarts. Eventually I decided to take the system recovery DVD's from HP, and reformat and reset to factory defaults. I figured at factory default settings if the system was still unstable, it'd point towards a hardware problem as opposed to drivers or other software. While performing the system recovery, it proceeds all the way to where it says "Setup is preparing your computer for first use" and gets to the step of installing drivers, at which point the system restarts. After booting up it then tells me that the installation has failed, and to reinstall. I've done this 3 times now, and get the same issue each time. I cant provide logs or dump files of the blue screens or other errors, since the HDD has been formatted as part of the system recovery.
