I have a few external drives that i don't always use and want to be able to have them shutdown when i am not using them. They shutdown when the computer goes into sleep mode but I would like to be able to make them shutdown (and power up) without putting the whole computer to sleep.
So I was wondering if there is a way to make a usb device think the port its plugged into is asleep in Win7 x64.
I recently installed new software that requires port 8080 to function. When I try to run the software I get an error that port 8080 is being used.How do I check to see what process is using port 8080 so that I can open up the port to run the software? MACHINE: Windows 7x64

I've had three BSOD's in three days now all while playing either Skyrim and Dead Island. I have the three individual crash dumps attached.The video card I am using is new to the system and has had its drivers updated to Nvidia's latest (not those from the manufacturer's homepage).My guess is that I'm either having some kind of conflict with drivers here or that my PSU is inadequate but without being able to decipher the information in the dumps I can't tell. BSOD's are not my specialty at all but I don't want to simply ignore this.

Are there any functions or 3rd party programs that would allow me to search for text within an individual window? I am using a program that generates 1000's of pieces of data and information and it has no search function.

It always worries me a little, wondering if that particular update was left blank for a reason. I'm running a customized version of Windows 7 64-bit, so maybe the customization has something to do with it, but I can't see how a tweak that was performed before I even installed the OS can have impact on which updates are defined as "automatic".What does it mean for an update to have a blank checkbox in Wondows Update?

Ultimately what I would like to do is while I'm playing movies and not using the other monitors (such as laying down to take a nap or playing movies with friends) I want to have a screensaver display on the unused monitors. View 4 Replies View RelatedI vaguely recall that when I first got on Windows 7 I was able to do the new feature taskbar rearrangement with all items on the bar, but currently when I try to move one explorer item it wants to move them all, which means I can put a program to the left or right of all explorer windows, but I can't move an explorer window opened later left of any earlier one. Is that a standard limitation? is my memory failing me, or have I maybe changed some feature that does allow explorer items on the taskbar to be shuffled amongst each other, rather than being effectively attached to each other in their present order?

Is there a way to make individual file name fonts look different than others (bold, color, italics, etc)? I would prefer not to use a 3rd party file manager: I read that if a file is compressed, the file name turns blue. If it is not possible to do what I am asking above, is there any downside to compressing the files I wish to distinguish, so their file names will turn blue?

So I've not long migrated from XP to 7 and I've noticed that every time I watch or stream audio my Adobe Flash Player 11 which I like to set to 50% in Volume Mixer jumps up to 75% which makes the audio playback distorted & poor sound quality.
How do I get it to stay at 50% ? Usually I do like to set volumes to 75% which is what I've got my Realtek Device set to but Adobe crackles and sounds bad at 75% so I have to set it to 50%
Is there any way of retrieving individual or groups of emails deleted in error, in Windows live mail?.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem getting Media Center to display my Photos showing the individual photos contents of each folder.I am running Windows 7 HP 64 bit with all updates. My MEDIA (movies, music & photos) are on a separate hdd (M). Each of the media formats has it's own folder on the M drive, Movies, Music & Photos. I have no problem with the movies or the music. However, when I choose "pictures" in Windows Media Center only the individual photos folders are shown....no photos are shown in these folders. I see the individual folders but no contents. I have set up "Libraries" on the C: drive; Music, Video & Photos. When I click on photos in the "Libraries" all the photos folders are show each with it's own photos. I have "Shared" these libraries as well as each folder on the Media drive M. The format of the individual photos is jpg. I have run SFC/Scannow.

I know there are a bunch of sleep problems out there but I couldn't fine one similar to this after doing a forum search. Running Windows 7 Ultimate. Sleep used to work ok but now when I choose sleep from the start menu, the screen blacks out but the computer doesn't actually go to sleep. The fans, activity lights, hdd lights are all still running. If I move the mouse the screen comes back. However, if I just wait for the sleep timer to kick in then the computer does go to sleep (all fans stop running and all lights go out). I'm not sure what caused this. I use my pc as an HTCP and now when I push the power button on the remote the pc does not go to sleep.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI currently run Windows 7 ultimate 64bit, 8gig ram, intel i7-2600k cpu, and my OS runs on an OCZ SSD (all specs are in my profile)Sleep mode is set to S3 in BIOS, I have hibernation disabled (so no hibernation.sys file on my c drive)When I put my computer to sleep then immediately wake it up, the login screen shows instantly, I type in my pass and it loads in like 0.5 seconds.When I put my computer to sleep but wait for around 1-2 hrs before waking it, it shows the login screen instantly but after i hit login, it gives me the Welcome spinning circle thingy for like 20 seconds before I can see my desktop. That's like longer than my entire boot-up time excluding POST.Event viewer doesnt show any performance delay, and I dont think my OS drive (OCZ vertex 2) has a cache so I have it disabled. I'm sure all my mobo drivers and graphic drivers are up to date.

For example if I select "always show icons" all my folders are set this way, and that's fine. But there are a few folders I have containing jpeg images, and I want to view those as "thumbnails" without effecting the others which are set to always show icons.
This was very easy to do in Windows XP but I can't figure out how to do it in Windows 7.
Sometimes when I click start and sleep on my computer (windows 7) the monitor will go to sleep but the computer is still running. I cannot wake my monitor up so there is nothing I can do to wake it up besides manually turning it off using the button on the computer case.

But I'm having trouble finding a setting to tell it to return to sleep if it woke itself up. View 2 Replies View Relatedok well i spent about 3 hrs and i know its not my router and its the os and i did a fresh install too im on 7600 rtm, now i got windows firewall and defender disabled, i got nod32 antivirus not with a firewall just the anti, now i got utorrent, so i use utorrents port checker, the port works for it but if i add a port to my portforwarding on my router it dont work, according to this port scanner, now if i enter it and use it as my port in utorrent it works! but anything else doesnt i dont get it i got windows firewall disabled and all that i literally think theres a hidden firewall or a virus but i know there isnt a virus i also did a scan incase so any ideas?
