View 9 RepliesJust inherited a pc, and bought a brand new 1tb hdd yesterday to install windows on. I was foolish at first by not changing any of the bios settings (was a long time since I have done an install) and just left it as it was. I got through to installing windows and it stopped at expanding files with the above error code, which I have heard is really commonWindows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required or installation are available, and restart the installation. Now I am certain there is nothing wrong with the DVD, as it is the same one that has been used on two other PC's. I tried turning it off and restarting, that was when I got another error load up - Bootmgr is missing! After this I restarted it and changed the bios settings to boot from the DVD drive. I tried doing a repair on this through the disc.
Went through all the settings and typed Bootrec.exe/REBUILDBCD in command prompt but that came back fine. I tried clicking startup repair after this but it did not restart, so I just went through the motions and restarted it manually as by this point I was getting frustrated. Upon restart I went through and booted from the DVD, and it went straight through. This time I tried re-installing but deleted all the partitions on the drive which had appeared since trying to install. However the same error message has come up again
I have had number of errors, the latest being 'Error number: 0x80070017' when trying to install windows 7. I'll start from the top. Originally I had problems exactly the same as on this thread below, incl same model PC except with Vista, also USB mouse often freezes or stops working: [URL]. I ignored the problem until crash during online streaming (assumed problem was to do with graphics card), usual multi coloured horizontal lines on monitor, repeating sound. Manual push button shutdown.
On restart, black screen no boot activity. Recovery DVD doesn't work/ don't have all the discs. So I bought Win 7 upgrade instead. Now I have a combination of 'BOOTMGR is missing', and when that doesn't occur PC freezes on any screen you can think of. Sometimes I can get all the way to 'expanding files' when installing Win 7, then I get Error number: 0x80070017. I have tried copying DVD to USB drive (in case it's a dvd drive speed problem), but then cannot copy the whole DVD usually there's an error stopping me (on another pc).
Also no OS available to select during repair system selection on Win 7 upgrade/install screens. Finally error regarding 'USB drive unplugged during boot' or something to that effect, also tells me DVD or CD or hard drive might no be connected properly. Had that message twice, again locks up. I've checked inside, every thing connected.
So to summarise:
Bootmgr missing (on boot)
Error number: 0x80070017 (on Win 7 install)
No OS available to select (System repair)
Constant freezing
I have just built a new gaming PC and according to every forum my hardware and the installation of said hardware is sound. I have an ISO verified copy of windows 7 but during file expansion it hangs at 22% and gives me the above mentioned error messageMy ram is compatible and correctly configured in BIOS. I am using one stick and have tried all slots. I have used SATA config AHCI and IDE to no avail. Attempts at booting from a USB drive have also been unsuccessful. My PSU is more than enough and according to 12 different instructional videos as well as the various instructional manuals everything is installed correctly. I have reset CMOS jumper and was again met with failure to install Win 7

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Dell Inspiron N5010. I was using windows 7 home basic 32 bit os. I wanted to change it to windows 7 ultimate. So I have inserted windows 7 Installation disk into CD drive. Then I went to through the installation and I chose the Custom as the installation type. When the partition page appeared, I have formatted all the disks including C which contains windows files. Then I got 298 GB unallocated space. Then I split them in to 4 partitions. Then I have selected one partition to install the windows. Then installation started .
Copying windows files succeeded. Expanding Windows files(0%) is still be like that for 20 minutes. Then I got the error message like: "Windows cannot install required files. Error code 0x80070017". And I thought it would be the installation disk problem. But it works fine in other systems. I tried several disks. No use. Also I got another problem. When system boots I tried to enter into BIOS using F2 and F12 which was mentioned in screen. But it did not enter into the BIOS, Instead it goes to the installation.
I made the HDD formatted and it's in NTFS format. The disk for some reason says Bootmgr is missing. Also when I try to install Windows 7, it says error code: 0x80070017. I don't have any OS installed. I've tried the repair disk thing. Also my BIOS is PhoenixBIOS (or something, that what it says on the BIOS Setup Utility menu) and I don't know how to disable AHCI mode.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI deleted all my hard drive partitions and formatted my hard drive to wipe it clean. Now when I try to install Windows 7 onto my computer, the DVD boots and the installation begins. The installation will complete the "Copying windows files" task in seconds, but sticks at 0% on "Expanding files" for about 30 seconds. I will then receive an error that reads "Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the application. Error code: 0x80070017".I researched this error but couldn't find a resolution. One suggestion was to download my hard drive's drivers onto a pen drive and load them in the installation, but t also tried installing Windows Vista and received the same problem. The error in this case has nothing to do with the copy. I have used many different Windows 7 builds, many different DVDs, burning at different speeds, all producing the same problemOnly when using the Windows 7 RC disc I was asked to "load drivers" as a requirement.Other builds didn't require me to load drivers.
View 9 Replies View RelatedCan't install Windows 7 from original DVD , I formatted the HDD twice and still, same error. The installation stops after 10-15 min with this error code 0x80070017 I know the media is in great condition, so exclude this problem. Maybe HDD failure ? I did the format and wipe via usb with MiniTool partition wizard .

View 3 Replies View Relatedi've recently decided to reinstall win7 64bit because my computer started freezing up occasionally while browsing, playing games or even watching Internet videos... the freezes would pass after a few minutes and the computer would recover and start up/shut down would take a long time as wellso i thought that reinstalling windows might help as i havent done it in a long while. but i ecountered a problem while installing win7 64biti receive these errors (0x8007045d and later after trying a few things it changed to 0x80070002 both times it stated something about files missing or being corrupt) while on the "extracting windows files" section of the setup.
i've done a clean install every single time and formated my hdd (seagate barracuda 7200.10 320gb) but got an error every single time but at various %'s (once it went up to 70% other times it would get stuck as soon as 5%). i'm really out of ideas now, i've tried switching ram's, switching dvd drives, disconnecting my gpu but nothing seems to... has my hdd died? or prehaps my mobo or cpu is acting upoh, and i burned my win7 iso's myself via imgburn - i've used the slowest possible burn speed (x2) and did it multiple times but every single dvd gave same error.
I am upgrading to Windows 7 on my laptop. When I inserted the disk it went through some of the installation then when it got to the Expanding Windows Files I got an error message. I looked it up and everything I read pointed to my dvd drive. I was told to bypass it you either by an external drive or use a usb thumdrive. I had an 8GB one laying around, followed all the steps on http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us [...] -usb-stick, it installed fairly fast, now I'm stuck on the Completing Installation part for about 30-45 minutes now, is this normal? From what I've read it works for alot of people if they remove all their USB devices however thats what I have Win 7 on. Would I still need it in my usb port? Or could I take it out since its on the completing installation step and everything is already copied over? I can post my comp specs here if that would help anyone. It's possible I'm just anxious and it could normally take this amount of time on a Laptop. It's somewhat new Dell Studio XPS with what i would say above average specs.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI know there are a couple threads on this, but I am having a lot more issues than others (or so i believe). Whenever I attempt to install iTunes, or any other programs, a window pops up telling about an error 2503, and then another window pops up telling me about an error 2502. Keep in mind, all the users on my computer have ownership of files (I'm pretty sure).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded the iso of Windows 7 64-bit Professional from my University's MSDN AA site. However when I boot up using the DVD it states an error in the Windows Boot Manager.
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
Status: 0xc0000225
Info: An unexpected error has occured.
I have looked at other threads on this board and I have already tried toggling ACPI but there was no change. (It currently is set on and set to both S1&S3)
I have tried 3 different burns of the DVD a 16x using Nero 7 Express and 4x using Nero 7 Burning Rom, and lastly a 4x using ImgBurn and all of them turned out the same error.
I was formerly using Windows XP on my IDE drives listed on my hardware and I added the 1TB Sata to install windows 7 on, (however my IDE with XP Pro is still connected). I have also tried only having the Sata drive connected but it still amounts to the same error.
I have a question regarding installation of Win 7 via USB stick. My mobo is an Asus P8Z68-V Pro Gen 3 now I can successfully start a Win 7 install but when it gets to the point where it needs to load the drivers for my hard drive it gives me an error telling me that a device driver is missing. I can only imagine it is the driver for my motherboards SATA controllers because when I run the install off a CD it detects my hard drives but when I do it from my USB 3 stick (on the front panel of my case) it tells me it can't find my hard drive. Does anyone know how to insert the correct drivers into my USB stick? Does anyone know what drivers I need?

I have bought a copy of Power Director 9 and when I try to install - it comes up saying to contact the system administrator - the error code is 1625. I tried cleaning the registry by buying Advanced System Optimizer. I feel the only option left is to wipe the computer entirely by doing a clean re-install of Windows 7. However, there are two versions that you can by, a full or an upgrade version? (I do not have any discs as this was already installed on machine). Which one should I need - or can this 1625 error be Fixed?
