BOOT DISK ERROR: INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

Feb 17, 2010

I have been having a bit of trouble with windows 7 lately, namely that it won't start up right. When I boot from the drive normally, it gives me the classic "BOOT DISK ERROR: INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" message.

However, I soon discovered that if I boot from the Windows 7 cd and do not boot from it (By ignoring the "Press a key to boot from CD or DVD..." Windows 7 boots up fine.
I've tweaked my BIOS over and over, but the same problem persists. The drive is brand new and fine. What can I do?

Now I'm trying to reinstall Windows but it says disk read error and it won't load any further.

Boot Disk Error With Cloned Windows 7 64 Bit On Ssd?

Dec 23, 2012

I installed my sandisk pulse ssd 256gb sata iii on my sata ii moo via pcie sata iii card. every now and then I get the boot disk error messages - CTRL-AL-DEL to restart . I set it as my primary disk boot and disabled the wd blue from appearing on bios hasrd disk selection (which also has os installed)

I know I don't get sata iii speed on my mobo but am more worried about boot disk error messages.

any fix for this? should I reinstall my win 7 ultimate 64 bit upgrade on the ssd and start afresh? at the same time save all data to external hdd and wipe the OS clean off the wd 500gb - then copy all music and sundry back to the wd blue?

I plan to get windows 8 asap while the upgrade version is on offer till end of January 2013.

after my hardware plan works will a clean install of windows 8 pro upgrade wipe my ssd clean fixing the problem?

For some time i was having an issue with my pc when I'd restart or Reboot it would do the Compaq screen the go to a black screen with a flashing | and I'd have to use CTRL+ALT+DEL then hit ESC on the Compaq screen to enter boot menu and manually select my Hard Drive. One day I was uninstalling unused programs on my pc to free up memory and one of them was Windows Essentials after I was done uninstalling all I wanted gone I rebooted and the problem did not persist. Now I do not claim that Windows Essentials was the cause but I just barely reinstalled it to get Windows Movie Maker back and I had to reboot after installation and now I get Disk I/O error Please reinsert the disk and try again, or something like that, and have to do the boot menu trick again.

Disk Read Error From USB Boot?

Aug 12, 2010

I've reached the last straw with my attempts to install windows 7 64 bit onto my PC the story goes as this;

I needed to upgrade from windows XP 32bit to Windows 7 64bit however when I installed my first Windows 7 package I didnt realise but it was infact 32bit so to my annoyance I reformatted back to XP 32bit, (I need 64bit to run several things on my computer such as high end games) in the mean time my family told me they wanted windows 7 on their PC, so using their PC I created a USB boot disk and used it on my bare-bones PC (The one I'd recently reset to XP), this brought up my first Disk Read Error.

Annoyed I tried a few different ways of making a USB boot only to always be brought to the same error, deciding to do the family PC first I used the same boot which had brought up an error on MY PC in my families PC and it worked like a charm. Not a single issue and Windows 7 64bit was installed within the hour. USing this new platform I created a -new- USB boot disk thinking that if I made a 64bit boot off a 64bit system it would have more luck ... No it didnt.

I've tried all sorts of BIOS options but every time it just brings up the same error, I attempt to change the 64bit bootsect.exe to a 32bit one and it didnt bring up the error but then told me files were corrupt. I have unfortunatly only got one ... long ... answer left.

I install windows 32bit again, then use that platform to clean install 64bit windows7 but I doubt that'll work.

For the record I KNOW I cannot upgrade from 32 to 64, I WANT to do a CLEAN INSTALL!

Boot Error - Insert System Disk

Jun 21, 2011

Here are the drives I have on my computer:
-Windows 7 installed on a 1TB drive
-Windows XP on a 500gb drive
-2TB drive for storage.
-1TB drive for storage
-500GB drive for storage

Windows 7 was installed before XP, and I believe XP came after the physical installation of the 2TB drive. I always have to press F8, and then select the first hard drive in the list, and then I'd be able to select to boot "Windows 7." Otherwise it'd give me "boot disk boot error, please insert system disk." The drive I'm selecting is my 2TB drive. My computer won't boot if the 2TB isn't plugged in. I've tried Option One and Two from here with no luck: [URL].

Disk Read Error Occurred On Boot?

Oct 23, 2011

Few days ago I install a Windows 7 on my HP Pavilion dv6000. It was ok for the first two days then started to get a message saying their is an error in system 32, and wants me to run f something utility (cant remember what it was). One night the computer was running fine, and shut down fine. When I start it up the next morning on boot I got a black scream message saying "disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart" Doesn't help when I restart it. Then I burn a trail version of windows 7 onto a dvd from Microsoft website, and tried to reinstall windows during boot by pressing F9, selecting boot from dvd, but end up back at the same error message. I spend hours reading all over the net about this problem, and realize it could be one out of many problems. only understand about half the stuff I read

Fix Boot Error When Extra Hard Disk Connected

Oct 17, 2009

Background:-

System Gigabyte X48T, 4G ram, usual bits. Video

Sata Port 0&1 - Gigaraid 2x 750G Raid 0 - Scsii disk Boot.

Sata ports 2&3, 4&5, 6, - 5x 500G 2TB dynamic GPT Raid 5

Sata Port 7 -1x 750G Roms & software disk.

Rocket Raid Scsii 0_1, 5x1TB in raid 5.

Scsii 0_0, 1x500G JBOD.

Problem is here.

I have been trying to get this system ready to do extensive HD video editing and multimedia work so thumbnails are critical to sorting out 1000's of clips. Vista just doesnt show thumbnails. I have been waiting years for Windows 7.

This system is fast. Boot drive reads at over 160MB/s sec. The 2 Raid 5 arrays can copy to each other at 250MB/s plus (for multi GB files). Interesting HDTach 3.0.1 only shows 160MB's for the Highpoint array.

They will have to fix their software..

In the last few weeks the system had become very flakey - Windows 7 x64 & vista x64 system -video thumbnail display & codec errors etc, windows explorer hangs, system corruption, bad software & codecs.

The boot manager from the latest (Paragon i think) partition manager for windows 7 got stuck on resize partition and it doesnt time out. I want my pc to be always on for remote access..

Anyway the system finally crashed. I lost one of the Raid0 boot disk array IDs when I tried to delete the boot manager. One disk offline and array gone. 60 hours, 400G of newly imported video from 8mm tapes..

So I decided on clean install just windows 7 after I recovered the data on the raid array.

To that end I removed all the other disks, took a single clean disk and installed vista on it.

Then I went to Bios and deleted the GigaRaid array and recreated it with the original 2 disks.

Changed the boot order in Bios to the first Sata.

Back into windows, initialise the GigaRaid array in windows disk management -Do not partition or format it. Load GetBackDataNTFS and

scan and copy all of the data back to the spare space on the new boot disk.

When I was totally happy I had everything back I loaded Windows Disk management and partitioned the GigaRaid into 250G and 1200G. Formatted the only the 1200G and copied on all of the drivers..

I then shutdown and removed the Vista hard disk and restarted with the Windows 7 DVD. Loaded the Gigaraid drivers and proceded to install Windows 7.

On first reboot, error 80xxxx .

Back to setup and disk management. Delete the new 250G partition and let Install do its stuff. So it creates a 100MB "system" as the first partition then 260G for the C drive and installs itself.

Whoo hoooo! it works.

I shutdown and add the GPT array and the single Roms drive.

Into Bios to set the boot to the Scsii Gigaraid & restart and the dynamic array and Roms disk is there.

Shutdown and install the RocketRaid Card with its 5 disks attached.

Back to bios to set Boot to Scsii Gigaraid.

It always puts Sata 0 first.

Or Scsii 0_1 (the RocketRaid).

Boot back into windows and everything is where it should be.

Clean and fast too. Install all of the software I need.

Now I have a nice system. Time to copy the video I recovered onto the Raid5 array.

So I plug the sata cable into the disk and go into the Highpoint management to scan the disk. Come up ok and is visible in windows.

I copy the data over to the raid.

The I decide to see it the computer will reboot back into windows unattended.. Nope! Screen fills with rubbish that looks like Linux. Says changing boot disk, then stops.

I go back into Bios and reset the boot disk back to Scsii 1_0 (GigaRaid)

Reboot and press F12 for the boot menu. Select the last item - GigaRaid.

Boots back into that Linux looking system (says debian).

I disconnect RocketRaid disk 6, Scsii 0_1 and back to bios and set to Scscii 1_0, Gigaraid, reboot back into windows..

Plug the Rocketraid Scsii 1_0 and reboot - back into Linux?

Question is..

1 What is the purpose of the 100MB that windows installed onto the boot disk.

2 how do i find the boot manager that screws the system when I connect a new drive (including USB key).

3 How do I force the boot to the correct disk array regardless of which drives are installed or not.

4. Is there a boot "something" I can install on every disk to point to Scsii Gigaraid

Bluescreen Error - Boot From The Hard Disk The First Time

Dec 17, 2009

The drive had windows xp on it from another build so i just used it to test. It booted xp fine. It only showed 3gb of ram but i think that was due to it being 1066 and needing me to change bios ram settings. So i took my full version of windows 7 professional that i have used to install on my laptop too and tried to install. I formatted the drive completely and chose to install. It goes through the paces installs.

Then when it is supposed to boot from the hard disk the first time it give me a brief blue screen PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA so i research it and see it can be linked to hard disk or ram. So obviously its not the disk its been running xp fine and so has the ram. But just in case i switched out the ram with 1gb of old ddr2 800 i had from another build. Same error. I then tried my new ocz ram with a single chip thinking its a dual channel problem. Same error. So then i reburn the microsoft professional image to a new dvd r go through the process again and reformat and still the same error. I have tested all i know to test. Any other ideas?

BIOS Disk Error - Resetting Boot Priority To Correct Drive?

Jan 27, 2012

When there is a Restart required after a software upgrade, the BIOS on my system (Win 7/64) will go to an external HDD (I have three for storage and backup). If I force it off and go into the BIOS on startup, it will show any of the other three HDD's in the boot priority. I reset the priority to the correct drive, save and start (repeat this process several times) and finally it will start from the correct HDD. I thought it might be the CMOS battery but with a new battery in place I still ran into this. This system (HP desktop) is less than a year old.

Cannot Boot Laptop / Windows Can't Find Any Hardrive To Boot OS

Dec 27, 2012

Today when I was surfing on my laptop (G74S Series) I wanted to restart the laptop because the internet crashed and it usually helps to restart. But I restarted it holding down the power button thing. So, I restarted it and while I was waiting, staring in to the screen, the blinking "_" thing when you start up was doing that for a while and nothing was happening, and a couple of seconds later the computer tells me that it can't boot the laptop/pc because no drive was found. I saw an error code but I didn't catch it, but it was something like "0x0000".So then on later, it sent me in to "Image Restore" But I have no image to restore with, so I cancel it, and then it sends me into the menu where. I can choose to "Restore Computer" or "Scan for startup errors" or something like that (I don't really have a such accurate memory.)And on the top it also says "os unknown on (unknown) local disk".Everytime I start the computer it sends me to that menu where I can choose to restore my computer etc..And I can't really do much about it since I don't have the windows 7 disc/dvd thing either. And this all came all so sudden I don't really know what to do.I don't have any backu or anything, and windows can only detect my /D: drive and not /C:, and I have my OS on /C/
