I'm a desktop analyst and I need access to a remote PC on our network. The user has disabled remote access to his PC.I need to see files on that PC and I planned on using \domaincomputername c$ but it says "could not connect". That command works on other PC's here, but not the one in question.What can I do to enable access so that command works?There is staffing changes being made and I need to do this without the end user knowing.
I get a BlueScreen every time I connect my computer (Dell M6300, Windows 7 Ultimate x64) to the company network at work. This happens with the network connection being wireless or wired! Also it doesn't happen immediately but takes from a few seconds up to several minutes until the blue screen comes. If I don't connect to the company network the system runs without any problems. This issue is perfectly reproducible. And until the system crashes the network connection is working. It also doesn't matter if there is activity on the connection or if it is idle. At home I can connect to my home network (wired and wireless) without any problems or crashes.

I am allowed to make myself an admininstrator while on the network or off the network but the next time (which is the second, the first time is to make the changes), my administrator rights disappear. I have added myself as an admininstrator in every way listed I think on all threads with no luck.

I get the message: (every time I try and open a folder on my c/drive - Can't access Windows Explorer folder on the taskbar and any other folder or file by double clicking it. I can open them by right clicking, then open) "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a progra or, if one is already installed, create an assocation in the Default Programs control Panel".
I can open applications. But, I can not open the folder for them lets say in c:/program files -- the only way to open them is by rightclicking, then open. If I double click, I get the above error message. (same issue with "my documents", "My pictures", etc).
Included with the above problems: I now, can not access User Accounts. When I go into Control Panel, click User Accounts.. I can not manage existing ones, nor can I "Add or remove user accounts". I click the link and nothing happens.
I have someething built into the computer called "Dell DataSafe Backup". Its a recovery partition/part of the HDD that saves all my files for a recovery. However, I can NOT access it. I click the "Dell DataSafe" in my taskbar and nothing happens..
I have a brand new acer aspire notebook and I'm trying to connect to my airport extreme card built into my iMac desktop. The laptop sees the signal just fine, but it will not connect to the Internet and I get "limited access". What can I do to connect?
I have a client (company) who I've built and connected multiple computers for--all with the same hardware. All but one out of 8 have been great. This last one is causing me hell. I've analyzed the dumps (but I'm a rookie to crash dump examinations), and I originally thought it was a graphics driver issue. I removed the card from device manager, driver swept the drivers, and installed the newest drivers after the re-install of the card. Still two more BSODs (see the last two dumps for that).

I have Dell latitude e4200 and i want to remove company's logo which appears when i turn on the laptop. i am not talking about the windows logo.but this one comes before that at the very starting of the computer.
i start my pc up (from being off) and get logged into a temp user profile. It tells me that i cannot acess my user profile and all information will be deleted on logging out. I've looked online for a soloution but none work for me ,I really dont know how to resolve this problem,I have limited knowledge and computer skills. i really dont want to scrap this drive and start over.
Last night I was on the internet at home absolutely fine and my laptop automatically downloaded an update, since then I have been unable to connect to my wi-fi. I deleted the updates and was still unable to connect, so I tried to used a system recovery restore point and every one I use starts but fails to complete.So, I did a factory reset after around 8 hours of trying to sort it out today and I STILL have the same problem. I can plug in the cable to connect and my housemate is having absolutely no issues connecting and neither is my phone so now I am at a total loss what I should do to resolve this. Prior to the factory reset I was able to connect to the wi-fi but it was stating no network access/limited access and now it simply won't connect to my internet at all. It finds my full strength signal but will not connect.My drivers for the Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n card are the most up to date and the laptop (HP G62) says it is working fine.
I wanted to create a new user with standard access and only give them access to my "C:" (programs) and not my "D:" (downloads) so after creating the user, I went to security settings under D: drive/properties and I denied "Authenticated Users". I obviously know now that that wasn't the right thing to do. After that happened, my admin account didn't have access to drive D. So I went back and switched it back to "Allow/full control" and my admin acct has access to my D drive now but there are files that are in the drive (not in folders) that are still showing denied when trying to open and 1 folder is also being denied. When I see the security settings on these files/folder it says "You do not have permission to view/edit...etc"
Today, I managed to redecorate my bedroom; where my computer sat on top of a shaky, wooden desk. That desk is now gone, caput, and replaced by a much bigger, sturdier and prettier glass replacement.Before I dissasembled the computer to re-decorate, I was able to browse the internet at ease. There were no problems at all...However, after the new desk was setup - and all wires replaced in their correct slots, I find that I am unable to connect to the internet, or even the house's network! For the past year, I have been wired to the router using a RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It was plugged into an extension cord, in my room, into the Ethernet port in the back of my computer. Downstairs, it's twin was situated no less than 2 feet away from the router - plugged into the first port.Now, when I boot up the computer, the network notification presents the following message: "Unidentified Network. No network access", and sometimes presents a yellow ! next to it. So, I am reduced to typing on my mother's laptop - which has no problems connecting to the network.I am able to use the ipconfig /release command, but unable to use the /renew - it hangs in the command prompt, then tells me that the DHCP server cannot be located. The IP, beforehand, was reverted to 169.254.223.117 - before all of this, I was 192.168.0.5?
I have installed Microsoft Office 2003 as an administrator. When I try to setup Microsoft programs (Outlook) in a user account (wife's) the programs are not listed in the all programs list and I can not place the appropriate icon on the desktop.
I have created a user & the user is not able to write to the C: I tried giving permissions but it gives access denied & file is in use error. how to give effective permissions to the user to use C: to write a temp file.
Okay okay, I know typical forum etiquette and hate being that new guy that just logs in to ask a simple question, but today I'm that guy. I tried searching and couldn't find an answer and something this simple should easily be found at least on Microsoft's page.
I just want to know the best way to allow programs to be accessed and/or denied access by various user accounts.
Example: I currently have Photoshop Elements installed on my computer and the only way I could find to give access to the others users (household media center) was to copy a short cut and paste it on that users desktop. Then I had to install it on each individual user account. I had to do the same for Firefox and Napster. Is there a better way to do this??
I am currently having issues with Napster running correctly and I have a feeling it's because of the way that added this to each user's account.
I am having troubl with changeing anything in my User Account Controls. Every time I try to access the tab I just get an error message saying that "Windows cannot find" followed by a long line of numbers. I am a little concerned as I noticed, according to Belarc Advisor, that I suddenly have a mysterious user on my windows called "UpdatusUser" and has apparently logged on 399 times!
I want to set up a new user account, and I would like to limit it so that the new user can only see and write to a single folder. I do not want them to be able to view what else is on the machine, and I would like to be able to easily check how much space they are using etc. additionally I have a SSD and a hard disc, with windows installed to the SSD, but I would like the new user to be restricted to only the hard disc. Is this possible, and if so how can it be done.
We have a Main server in Mumbai through which different people around the world access oue websites. I work in Mumbai and a user sitting in Dubai is unable to access a particular website. This is happening with all the users in that country.We are connected in the following chain VPN - User Certificate - Access Granted and Authorized I have checked that the user is able to connect to VPN and can also do Telnet in CMD which means everything is fine from Mumbai. Back in Dubai, the user is still unable to access. There is a user in my office who needs access to a website. The site has been added to the "favorites bar" in IE. The user had access to this site last month and now when attempting to access site they recieve the error message "Internet Explorer cannot display the Webpage" When I log on as a different user, and user the same shortcut from the other users favorites the Web page opens normally. I believe that this is a profile problem but unsure of how to address it.I don't want to delete the user profile.The Machine is a Dell E6400 with Windows 7 and Office 2010, Internet Explorer 8?
I'm not really sure when this problem started, but as the admin account and only real user (I set up another account to test my problems) on my HP Laptop, I cannot access the user accounts on my computer. I've tried to access them multiple ways, including through the control panel and directly through the start menu, but when I try to click on anything having to do with the user accounts on my pc, nothing happens. So I am unable to change my password, change my picture, or add or remove other accounts. It's almost like I'm not an administrator. However, according to multiple places on my computer, my account is still an administrator. Also, some programs do not launch unless I chose to launch them as an admin by right clicking, is that normal?
So to summarize my situation, I don't think my admin account is giving me proper access to my computer, limiting the things I can do.
This same problem happened about 1-2 months ago on the first user profile on the computer. My cousin and I searched google and all we could find was deleting 1 of 2 registries or something along those lines, we tried and it didn't work. Since the problem seemed like a one in a million shot, we eventually settled on copying the contents of the other user profile into a new user profile through the hidden administrator account. We just used that account instead. The other account is still on the computer as well
I have 2 users on my computer operated by Windows 7. When logged in the first user account I have to reboot Windows 7 in order to access the second user and vice versa.
I have 2 HP laptops running Windows 7. I can access the puplic folder and printer sharing from the first laptop to the secound. When I try to access the puplic folder from the secound laptop to the first I get this error.As far as I know all my setting are correct in the 2 laptops. here is the screen shotts on the setting. and the other laptop all looks the same so I dont understand why its asking for passwords.
This seems like a basic concept, but I can't quite figure out how to make it happen.In a domain environment with Windows 7 systems, I want to create a shared folder that all domain users have access to. However, when any domain user accesses the share, they should only be able to access certain subfolders.For example, assume the shared folder is \servershareme, and it contains subfolders aaa, bb, ccc, and ddd. Further assume that there are three domain users: user1, user2, and user3. How can I allow user1 to browse shareme, but not open any of the subfolders; allow user2 to browse shareme and also open any of the subfolders;allow user3 to browse shareme but only open subfolder aaa?
Permission is just my newest trouble! My computer crashed some weeks ago, & I never received a solution; I have Windows 7 Home Premium on, 32 bit, on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. It replaces one that was stolen from me; no frills is fine, but I have had many troubles! I am in exams online in grad school, so did not do my Performance Monitor/Error checking or anything, just working on schoolwork. But as I worked with reports, etc., I realized that all files in "My Documents" were also in (at least!) two other places: Public Documents and Pictures --
I went right to trying to move them, they were marked "Read Only", and I wasn't able to gain permission to ,make changes or move my files out of Public Documents, where they were "shared" & I was blocked from hitting "stop sharing" -- "didn't have the authority". When I realized they were also in Pictures, and set up as "Share" items, I was sickened; my very private documents on my computer system, & I didn't have the right to move my own files!
I am the Administrator, and I am the Owner; I live alone and nobody has used my laptop. *When I wrestled to restore my Permissions, I might make the changes, and "SYSTEM" seemed to be "in charge" -- my Full Control permissions were faded out, & when I would restore them, I could not click "Apply". Now unable to change permissions, or properties, I went to search for answers & was told to change the security settings at the root; I "enabled all authorized users to enable their permissions" -- that first time, it seemed to work & I was able to "un-share" my files; checked back to the root (C:drive), & it was back like before; my permissions faded & me blocked from clicking "apply" when I attempted to do what I did to get good results before.
I decided to do a "System Restore"; it did not make any difference. But there was an extra file (outside of the C drive System file called "System" when the Restore began. Bogus file called System?? Is that possible? Also, my Protection had been turned off; I had to re-set it and that has never happened.
I thought it could be a virus; ran the Microsoft program to detect Malware (am running Security Essentials); yet, I was told "no". It used to be so simple; my document files stayed in ONE location; & now I realize I have files in multiple locations and I neither did that nor authorized anyone to do that. *And I don't know how to move them with Internet Explorer; of course they are really located at "My Documents", so I am stopped from moving them out of the wrong place: "location is the same." It has been one really troubling matter after another & I hope there is some help for me.
I use a password, work from an Administrator Account; have changed passwords recently, & probably would have "let it go" tonight except that I was being exposed, and even now that (I think!) the share capacity was stopped (also went into Network Sharing & cut off "Network Discovery", I just feel so out of control with my own System & so vulnerably at risk: I have no idea how long my grad school and private documents weren't private!!
I have set up a standard user account on my Son's laptop, but there are software programs I would like him to have access to, without me having to log on with Administrator ever time.When he try's to run said program it says Parental Controls has blocked this program the Administrator can grant access. I don't have any programs blocked under Parental Controls. Is there a way to grant access to certain programs without having to log in as administrator every time while using a standard user account?
Dell Studio 1747 with I7, 4 core processor, 8GB ram, Win 7 Pro. When I try to back up my user folder, I get the msg-You must have administrator rights to change this folder (CardSpace). I can't find this folder, even by search. I have gone into the properties of my user folder (William) and made sure I have all rights, and changed the ownership (security tab, owner tab). All I want to do is be able to backup my data.
I have checked my user ID and it shows I have all permissions available to me as the administrator. When I r-click on desktop, and select Gadgets, I get a message only admin can access Gadgets. I have other issues, but I'd like to deal with them one at a time.
I am using Windows Seven ultimate x64 and I started having a problem when trying to access user's folder under documents and settings or users on any attached external hard drive on my computer. i didn't have this problem before, it started on the same installation of windows and without any changes to my system settings or user settings. I am a computer tech and I use my computer to backup data before repairing computers so I attach the hard drive to my computer using a USB enclosure. This is limiting my work since I didn't find any solution yet. It's giving me the error below: "you don't currently have permission to access this folder" This is happening on any external hard drive I want to access the user's data.
