View 1 RepliesWhen I started my toshiba laptop this morning, it started up normally, but then it shut down. When I tried to start it up, the screen was blank, but the power light was on. After about an hour, it just shut down. I tried to start it again, and it worked fine. I then ran a diagnostic test and it said "HARDDISK DRIVE TEST FAIL" What can I do to fix this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have this WD My Passport external portable harddrive which I have used for a couple of years. I was writing something to the drive one day when the USB connection seems to be somewhat loose and the drive disconnected momentarily and reconnected itself but the file I was trying to write ended prematurely...Now when I try to use the Seagate Harddrive test tool for windows and do a Short Generic test and the result failed.. I am fear it might have been caused by the disconnection and might eventually corrupt the entire drive... I try to run chkdsk but there aren't any errors detected it seems and files seems to be accessible as normal... Is there a way to fix the harddrive without losing data in the drive or confirm the drive is indeed failing?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Asus G73JH-BST7 Laptop and recently it's been freezing. For the past two months it has had issues with programs hanging for 1-3 minutes then quickly responding again. About a week ago the laptop began to freeze and wouldn't come back and would required a hard restart. I decided to make use of my warranty and took it into a geek squad store. They told me they ran chkdsk and "other" tests to check the HDD and it passed all the tests and they couldn't "Replicate" the problem. So, I took the laptop back and it's still hanging/freezing. Whats the best way to go about diagnosing this?

I want to format and 0 write and wipe the entire hard drive in an Asus EEEPC with no system disc and re-install windows 7 home premium. The windows registration number is on the back of the computer.
Did not come with a windows disc or recovery disc from the factory, IE windows 7 home pro was pre-installed.
I created a system recover boot disc/CD. This machine has no CD/DVD drive, but I do have a USB CD/DVD drive.
If I format and write the drive, but leave the partitions will I be able to re-install this version of windows that came with the machine ??
I am using windows 7 64 bit on my hp pavillion g6 laptop (g6 - 1118tx model) and the warranty is expired . Well I ve got 2 problems , please read the whole problem and provide some solution. Around a week back my Laptop got struck(edit - windows 7 os got struck .. hangs .. watever) so i have restarted it , but when i did it showed some error message "windows was unable to start your system" something like that .. I tried safe mode, installing windows again and even recovery disks that i have got but all of them did not work outso i have run diagnosis on hard disk and the test result is a 303 ERROR , which turned out to be a hard disk crash when i googled about it.. But i need to back up my data , so did some research and used UBUNTU live cd to back up data , which worked fine and i am able to back up all the drives except the C drive (may be C drive got crashed).
I thought i need to buy a new hard again but i saw install option in ubuntu live cd and ubuntu got installed and in the processing of installing I FORMATTED 2 drives as EXT PARTITIONS (do remember this point).. After that I installed windows 7 on another drive (not C drive) which worked but now the system is very very very slow , you cant imagine how slow it is , takes 30 mins to copy 500 mb file, 5 mins to open my computer.. So now my problem is ... Should I replace my hard disk ??, because when i asked friend of mine in service center he said its better to replace, because even though its working now he said it may crash again in future and who knows the whole data might be lost If I dont want to replace, can you guys provide any solution to speed up my system ?? Do you remember the point about partitioning 2 drives as EXT in ubuntu (refer above) .. well those 2 drives i am unable to format in windows 7
I have a HP Probook 4530swith Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. When I turn on the PC the windows does'nt start and give a option of starting windows manually, which does'nt work, and repair windows. Repairing windows with windows 7I then decided to reinstall windows 7, but while installing, on the select disk page, it shows a error saying no drives found.I then performed a Hard Disk Test which resulted in failure saying:Failure ID : UC7WX0-5NB67S-XD6V5G-60TF03

I've been using my Ps3 controller as an alternative to an Xbox 360 controller on my PC (to play games with a gamepad) but in order to use my Ps3 controller as a makeshift 360 controller, I need test signing enabled.
Unfortunately with test signing enabled I get a big ugly watermark at the bottom right of my screen, as far as I know the only way to disable this is to disable test signing, otherwise it just won't leave! Is there any way I can get past this and somehow keep driver test signing enabled but get rid of that horrid watermark ruining my gorgeous wallpaper?
when i start tdu, crash me to de desktop, and only crash me when i connect my steering wheel (genius speed wheel 3mt) or my joystick, there are any solutions for this problem ?

As this software has been upgraded over the years, it has required more system resources in order to run smoothly. View 6 Replies View Relatedalright, I'm posting on behalf of a friend(doing chat on facebook..), who is trying to replace the harddrive on a windows 7 laptop.now.. installation of the new drive did not go to plan, so he tried to put the old one in, and the computer apparently took this as cause to commit seppeku if you will.we have tried everything, up to and including testing for a bad mobo, which I suspect it is.all he's getting is a power light, not even the screen's backlight is coming up.
View 9 Replies View RelatedA random times, often not long after startup/wakeup my hard drive appears to freeze. The hard drive light lights up solid, any programs accessing the drive freeze and resource monitor says the disk is "100% active" yet also says "0kb disk I/O" is occuring. After a couple of minutes it fixes itself and anything ive attempted to do during the time it was frozen all happens really quickly. The nature of the problem makes me believe its the hard drive at fault, but its smart readings are fine and ive ran the dell diagnostic tool that came with the laptop without finding any problems. Ive also done the ususal routine of updating drivers and the BIOS etc.

I have 2 laptops - the hard drive for one of them is now suddenly asking me for a password.I never set any password on it
1. I set the BIOS password on one laptop (which has a dual boot)
2. I made a backup image of the Windows OS on an external drive using that dual-booted machine
3. I then installed that backed-up image on the other harddrive using the same machine - and that caused the password....
My friend's laptop (Acer Aspire One 722 - Windows 7 x64) has been shut down after opening an email and Windows never started up again. When you attempt to start up the windows, it stays the black screen and says "No bootable Device Found"! I inserted Windows Live Disk and loaded it (Windows XP Mini - Golden Edition). When I went to "My Computer", it did not show any local drive. I went to "Disk Management" and in there, there was also no unallocated or allocated space. I even removed the HDD and plugged it back in. No thing happened. Then I removed the RAM card and inserted it back. Again, nothing happened! By the way, HDD had movements when laptop was on (I had removed the beneath panel).I inserted Windows 7 Disk to install a fresh Windows 7. But when you get to the part where it asks you to choose the partition to install the operating Sustem, it shows one unallocated drive with 0 (Zero) capacity! The options to Delete and format are disable. Only the option "New" is active and it gives you (0) bite to partition!
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy motherboard crapped out on my HP dv6000 a week ago and so I decided it was time to upgrade. I just ordered a new dell latitude e6410 so I'm really excited!
Anyway, my dv6000 will not charge and is completely dead. I am trying to figure out the easiest and most economically sound way to get everything off my hard drive and on to my new machine.
So one of my friend's laptop had been acting slow, and I took a look at it and I cleard out some applications but it was still going bad. it turns out the hard drive had to be replaced, so he sent it in under warranty. I reinstalled Norton 360 and Office for him, and helped him reinstall some of his games. Then i found out it was acting slow again, and was practically unusable for gaming! He's coming down this weekend, and I plan to take another hack at it. But I don't know what the cause would be. it's a new hard drive with a new factory image. I suspect that the new hard drive might be faulty, but I don't know how to test it. I do have some spare hard drives around that I could install, but I'd like kto know what testing processes or programs I can use to better diagnose the problem.

I was booting off an ssd originally and have a regular hdd as backup. then i had to get my laptop repaired. i removed the ssd and shipped the laptop off. upon receiving it, i popped my hard drive back in and changed the boot settings in bios to my ssd instead of the hdd.it boots just fine, but my wallpaper was gone and i cant access certain things like my computer, control panel, etc. an error pops up saying that it wont initialize.is there a procedure i must do? i tried sfc scannow and it restored my desktop, but it said somethings were unable to be repaired. im also wondering how come it didnt just work right away as if i never sent it in for repairs. i stumbled upon a guide that said how to re register my dlls.
