how to remove unwanted language files in Windows 7. On OSX a great little utility called 'Monolingual' exists that scans your HD and removes languages that you will never, ever use, sometimes saving GB's worth of space. Does such a utility exist for Windows? Does the operating system allow for this to be done?
Switching over from a Swedish language XP system I'm utterly frustrated with Windows 7 (Ultimate + Sedish language pack).
The localized version of both sytems replaces the "Program Files" folder with a "Program" folder.
In XP that causes no trouble, 95% of all applications happily install themselves into "Program" and run ok there, the few exeptions insist on creating a "Program files" folder but then run happily there.
Not so in Win 7. On the system disk there is a "Program" folder and at least some programs install themselves there, and run ok there. But, if you create a shortcut to a program the shortcut is pointing at C:Program files and changing it to C:Program.. causes an error message when trying to activate the program. This becomes rather confusing when you yourself have to create shortcut addresses.
Some programs have exactly the opposite problem, for example WinZip is on one hand unable to extract a zip file to C:Program files as it cannot find the folder (altough explorer clearly sees such a folder) and on the other hand creates a new, extra, C:Program folder if told to extract to that folder. So then there are two "Program" folders, one pointed at by %ProgramFiles% and another one not pointed at!
Some other programs have the same kind of problems.
What is going on here? Have I missed some step in the language pack installation or has MS managed to break a system that worked perfectly well in XP for years?
Has anyone had similiar problems with other language packs?
I have been installing Portuguese PhotoStory 3 on my windows 7 machine. It install OK. I reboot. When I invoke Photostory 3 I am expecting to find it in Portuguese, ... but its still in English.i used the official PhotoStory3Portuguese(Brazil).msi?Even if I install the Portuguese version, does it still look at the OS language when invoked and say "well, your OS is in English so I am going to display in English"?

I hate for my first post to be about something there are tons of posts on already but nothing, so far, has done the trick.I'm trying to delete unused files from my computer.I'm running an HP desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bitFor a specific example, there is a Windows.old folder leftover from Vista, when I installed Windows 7. I would like to get rid of this folder. It originally had nearly 30GB in it. It would not delete as a folder. In frustration, I have gone through and deleted everything it would allow me to delete and am still sitting at nearly 13GB of wasted space. I cannot understand why I cannot be allowed to delete files off my own computer. I have logged in as adminstrator. I have given my normal user account administrator rights. I have activated the double secret extra special hidden administrator account. STILL...I am not allowed to delete files from my computer.'m not a programmer or any kind of computer tech guy. I'm an architect...not software architect...real architect. This is akin to me putting a refrigerator in your house that you can never remove. "Oh, it's broken and you need a new one? You'll have to put the new one next to the old broken one. Enjoy."
I have followed a bunch of the tutorials or instructions on going through properties, then security then advanced then owner back out, back in to properties back to security, then to edit then to permissions and every time there is something else telling me I need permission from something else. I swear one of them told me I needed permission from "Ron-pc/Ron" and that is what I am logged in as! My user account says:RonAdministratorPassword ProtectedOne of the biggest frustrations, next to it just not working, is that from the hidden administrator account I change the owners and permissions (All to "Administrator") and then I still get files that say I need permission from TrustedInstaller or SYSTEM or Ron as noted above. So they seem to be changed, but then aren't.

My computer originally came with Vista. I began to have issues with navigating in "My Computer", as it would often freeze and make it nearly impossible to use at times. I received a free upgrade to Windows 7, which I had hoped would solve my issues. It did not, unfortunately. Is there any way that I could remove all the Vista files from my computer
i did'nt do anything specific to make it happen, but all of a sudden i can't acces all those "my" files in my documents anymore, you know "my picture" "my music", all of those files. the icon is a little faded and shows a lock on it. when i try to acces it it sais "acces denied" (in my language). i can still acces all files i created myself though. also, a few days later, i all of a sudden have a stndart administrator account.i know that it is standard because my account is removable but the account "administrator" is not. now i would like to know how i could regain acces to my files, or even better remove to administrator account and turn my account back to the standard administrator account.
I've removed one of the language keyboard input in the settings but seems like it still appears in my language bar in desktop and it doubts me because everytime I have to shift twice to get back my input language into "EN" after using other language input.
I am about to purchase an asus laptop in Germany (with Windows 7 HP on). Now I know I can't change the system language (need windows ultimate for that) but I believe on Asus computers you can select English as the display language on the initial install (so each shop is telling me) and so i have read (which i don't really understand as why can you do this on ASus laptops only - surely windows is windows? ie you can or you can't!).
If this is true i was wondering just what will be changed into English (i.e. what exactly is the display language)? I gather the majority of menus etc will be in English, but what about if my laptop goes wrong and I have to start digging a bit deeper? Does anyone know if all the settings menus change so i'll be able toedit the registry if need be (just an example!).
I am attempting to uninstall (and then reinstall) Office 2010 Prof Plus. I am not able to remove it from Add/Remove programs, have read through some help info and attempted to use the Windows Fixit, Revo & Ripoutoffice2007, none of which have removed it (Revo didn't take it out and then pulled up a million 'left over' files, none of which I deleted).
Does anyone know how to remove the "safely remove hardware" icon in the taskbar? I do not mean hide it. I have my icons always show in the notification area because I don't like the arrow icon either.
I have a laptop HP PAVILION tx2550er. After installing AMD AHCI driver in the system tray shows the Safely Remove Hardware icon (my hard drive). How to remove (not hide!) the icon?
I bought my computer half a year ago and ever since then there was a language bar that I could use. It worked just fine. Just recently, my computer had to recover data (pressing f12 repeatedly during startup) because of a "hard drive damage". When i finally had most of my data recovered, I found out my language bar was missing. I tried going to control panel>clock, language, and region>change keyboards or other input methods>change keyboards>languagebar. There, I made sure it wasn't on hidden and that I had picked a language. There use to be a "EN" icon on my taskbar where it let me change languages, but now it isn't there. Is there anything else i could do to make it appear/work again?
Yesterday i purchased a compaq destop with windows 7 operating system installation but the problem is they did installation in Arabic language when i was turn on the system the total things are in Arabic language. Please can anyone tell me how to change the total things from Arabic language to English language.
I have a friend who is studying abroad from Japan and their laptop broke and they want to get a new one. However, they would really prefer it if the OS language was in Japanese (eg when you press the Windows key instead of 'Computer' it's 'コンピュータ'). I've tried fiddling around with mine, but changing the language seems to only change it for my clock, not the entire OS. I've heard with Enterprise one can freely change the languages in such a manner, but I would like confirmation before I recommend my friend a laptop and buying another OS if it's unnecessary and changeable through some other means.
After installing Windows 7 SP1, many applications and websites do not appear in English or any other language, but in some language which resembles Wingdings. MS Word, Notepad, websites appear in Wingdings. MS Excel is the only program to appear in English. After re-installing Win 7 (without SP1) everything is again in English. But, after installing SP1 again, same problem. I'd appreciate any thoughts, including which updates of SP1 I might be able to install without problems.
I am learning a different language and want to be able to type in it plus enter characters on my on-line course. I would also like to see the keyboard layout so I know how to get the special characters.
I am going to order my free windows 7 upgrade . The problem is i want to choose different language for order (my current language is russian and i want to install english). I really need your help, because i dont want to spend 20 bucks (for shipping) and find out i throw away my money and free copy of windows 7.
Does anybody here was able to see the difference between a Windows 7 installation disk in another language than English and a Windows 7 installed in English + a language pack (MUI)?
Personally, I don't see any. But I think my MUI (French) is still incomplete because there is some places in Windows which are still in English.
