Difference Between Language

Does anybody here was able to see the difference between a Windows 7 installation disk in another language than English and a Windows 7 installed in English + a language pack (MUI)?

Personally, I don't see any. But I think my MUI (French) is still incomplete because there is some places in Windows which are still in English.

Note: The question is valid for any language.

Difference Between US And EU Hardware
just wondered if theres any difference between hardware bought from the US and their EU equivalents.

this is specific to RAM and Graphics Cards, but other info would be much appreciated also.

EDIT: Lets make this a multi subject thread. This here is my upgrade list:

Processor: AMD Phenom II 940 Black Edition Deneb 3.0ghz AM2+

RAM: 2x2 240pin 1066 (havent chosen a particular brand yet)

Graphics: HiS ATI Radeon HD4870 1GB Crossfire Ready (if i have enough to get 2 at the same time...)

Mobo: ASUS M3A79-T Delux

A black suit.

Parts kept:

PSU : 700W something.

HDD : 350GB 7200 samsung something

Optical drives : CD/DVD burner, DVD player, multi card reader

Case: Xclio something something.

My main query is related to wether if i get certain products from the us (gfx and ram, prolly the processor too) do they differ from the EU versions? is there a reason why the UK seems hellbound on overcharging me?

ALSO im looking on advice for Mobo and Ram, since I dont REALLY know enough about them/various companies to make an edumacated guess.

Video Motion In Full Screen Difference
I would like to know why when I play video on Windows Media Center 7 (on the TV set as a second monitor) the motion is fluid and perfect, just like watching TV, but when I play the same file either in WMC in windowed mode or even in full screen but on any other player the motion is stuttery.

This is especially noticeable if I play content that is originated at 1080i, such as Conan or Saturday Night Live. When playing the file from WMC, if it is in full screen, it looks just as good as watching it using the TV's own tuner or the tuner box provided by the cable company.

This also happens on 1080i content recorded with my HD camcorder, perfect in WMC in full screen but stuttery in WMC in windowed mode or in any other player, no matter what codec I set the highest merit to.

Certainly it can't be a problem of poor hardware, having a 2.66 Ghz Quad Core with 8 GB of RAM and a Radeon 4850 with 1 GB of RAM. My first guess is that DirectX doesn't handle windowed mode very well, but I don't know enough to make an educated conclusion.

Difference Between Primary, Extended, Logical Partition
Windows 7 is coming pre-installed on my new PC from Dell. It has two 500GB HDDs.

I want to partition the first drive into just a couple of partitions. I guess I will have to shrink the main partition to about 100GB for the OS and apps.

But my question is: that partition with the OS and apps will be a 'primary' one...what will my next couple of partitions be? Logical? Extended?

I'm not sure how to decide what type of partitions to have.

Service Difference Between XP, Vista, Win7 - Error 1053
We're testing out Windows 7 and it looks like some of our software that works on XP (64 bit) doesn't run properly on Vista or 7 (64 bit). In particular, several services are returning a 1053 error when I try to start them. I looked into it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839174

The difference however is that it's not a timeout - the error occurs instantly when trying to start the service. I installed and updated .NET 1.1 as a suggestion to solve the problem, but it didn't do anything. I also tried to run the service executables and the program executables in compatibility mode (XP SP3), to no avail. This leads me to believe that there are some fundamental differences in how services are handled in XP, Vista, and 7.

Can anyone explain what these differences are and what possible steps I can take to get our software running on 7?

Difference In Media Between Regular Upgrade And Family Pack
I have just spent the last three hours driving around from store to store to try to buy a copy of the Family Upgrade Pack for my kid's computers.  No one had it at retail.  I need to order it online but I'd like to get started on the installs now.

Is it possible to use the media I already own (Win 7 Home Premium Upgrade), install it as a trial without the serial number, and then use the serial number that comes with the Family Pack that will be coming in the next few days?  Weekends are best for these projects but they are looking for the upgrade asap.

Difference Between Custom Install And Deleting A Partition, Formatting, And Installing
I have a few questions about installing Windows 7.

(1)  I'm preparing to upgrade my Windows XP Pro SP3 machine to Windows 7 Pro.  I'm been planning my "attack" on this for several weeks now and recently settled on using Windows Easy Transfer and installing onto my current Windows partition.  I understood that this would create a Windows.Old folder with all my old files and settings but that I would nonetheless have a "clean" install of Windows 7.

However, this article on cnet.com leads me to believe otherwise:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-19882_3-10386856-250.html?tag=TOCmoreStories.0.

Essentially, the author seems to suggest that custom install "set up [his] computer more-or-less cleanly with Windows 7."  He goes on to say that "I really wanted to do was re-format my hard drive and start from a blank slate on my computer," and that he eventually worked up the courage to simply reformat his partition (rather than install over it) reinstall Windows 7 again.

This absolutely, positively, confuses me.  What on earth is the difference between using the Custom Install option to upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7 and formatting the partition and installing clean?  I thought using Custom Install was a clean install - am I missing something?

(2) If I do elect to simply format my existing partition and install Windows 7 there, will I even be able to use that option since I am installing an "upgrade" version of Windows 7?  The author in the article I linked to above was able to, and he notes that many others were able to as well, but he seems to make the suggestion that some have had troubles.  Does anyone have any information on this?

(3) Finally, I'd like to install the 64-bit version of Windows 7.  Currently, I am using a 32-bit version of Windows XP.  Will that limit my ability to install the 64-bit version of Windows 7?

Run Different Language Programs
How do i keep the OS in English, but run another program as a different language

There should be an option to have a program always run as a set language

I would like to be able to run an English, Japanese and Korean program side by side, not reset the computer just to run one app.

I Know about applocal, but some times it does not cut it and the program fails to run properly.

Windows should let me run a program from any country, not just one at a time.

Language Packs For W7 - Import From VISTA
Anybody know if during the RC other language packs will be available.

If not could I "Poodlefake" or Backport the language packs from the VISTA system.

I'd like to try the Icelandic pack so some of our "Normal" i.e non technical users back home can check / try Windows 7.

(Of course they all speak excellent English -- like most Scandanavian countries English is a mandatory language in Schools here and even as adults around 90% here speak it fluently but it would be nice to test Windows 7 in a "Working environment" away from the IT testing areas to see how it performs in day to day work. (Maybe not 100% mission critical stuff but for reasonably robust office situations).

Multi Language Support In Win 7
I'm planning to buy a new PC with Windows 7 (English) and not sure what version I should buy. I need to be able to switch into Japanese language mode for writing Word documents and composing/reading email sometimes. I do not need the desktop, menus etc. to be displayed in Japanese, however. I've found some info on the Internet and MS web site but still confused:

1) I have read that LIPs can be installed on any version of Win 7 but looks like Japanese must be installed as a full install (no parent language). If this is the case, can I setup 2 user accounts and configure one for English and the other for Japanese?

2) Do I need to have Win 7 Ultimate or Enterprise edition to do what I want to do?

Disabling Language Bar Via Registry
Because my locale is Portugal, the language bar appears on the taskbar. This is something my enterprise didn't want, so I needed to disable it for all user.

For this to work you'll need to:

.: Navigate to [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftCTFLangBar]

.: If LangBar key doesn’t exist, create it

.: Inside LangBar create a new DWORD called “ShowStatus"

.: Set the ShowStatus value to 3

Of course that to apply this to all users, you should create a script (ex.: vbscript) loading the Default User hive.
