I keep getting the "Can't open ACPI Kernel Mode Drive" when I turn on my computer. After I click "OK" everything seemed to work fine until a few days ago. Now my screen goes black periodically for no apparent reason. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the error message at start up.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently have had major issues with my HP pavilion dv6 laptop. I bought it about a year ago, and it has worked reasonably well until now. I downloaded some iso files, and I wanted to run them, because they were an old game that I really liked of my friends, but he sold it. I tried to copy it onto a disk, but the disk was playing up, so I downloaded DAEMON tools lite so that I could install it. I then had to restart the computer, as you have to with new software, and It seemed fine. I then turned on the computer the next day, and the CHKDSK program ran. I didn't worry about this too much, it happens occasionally.but when the computer started up properly; it wouldn't run any programs. when I tried to get things to go, it would always come up with a balloon in the corner saying that the file system structure is corrupt or unusable, please run CHKDSK on file system C:. So I did. The next day(today), everything worked fine. I could do just about everything. I told CHKDSK and the memory diagnostics tool to run while I was at school. I didn't notice anything bad at the time. Everything worked when I got home from school; except that most of my gadgets had no writing on them, which concerned me a little, and some of my startup programs didn't start.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI performed a system update yesterday, and I realized afterwards that I was no longer able to play any videos online or any flash animations. This morning I decided to do a system restore, and upon completion I now find myself unable to load the login screen on my laptop. I get an error window that says:LogonUI.exe - System Error The program can't start because CRYPT32.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this issue. Now, I cannot go anywhere from here. If I click ok or close the window, it comes back up. If I try to access the safe modes, I still get that same error window.

Like it lots - but I keep getting two identical errors on start up which I know how to solve in xp or vista but not windows 7.On start up I get two idential pop up windows that say Run Time Error 339 mswinsck.ocx is not registered. Of course it isn't as I don't think it exists in Windows 7. Normally I would use regsvr32 to register it but Windows complains that it isn't compatible. I have tried uninstalling most of my applications (mostly 32 bit stuff like Office 2007) but can't seem to find the one that is causing it. I have looked in the event viewer and can see no mention of the error and also turned on boot logging and looked at the log, again no joy.

Now the weird thing is it doesn't happen all the time It more often than not doesn't work, but still there will be times where it works all day. I can't figure out why it works sometimes and not others. I don't do anything different, just facebook and Star Wars the Old Republic, so I don't think its a program which is causing the issue. I have a 1TB Seagate external drive connected to my computer. When I start the computer I get a Disk Read Error. If I disconnect the external drive, Windows 7 loads properly. Apparently, my system is trying to load Windows from the external drive.
So, how can I get my computer to ignore the external hard drive at start up and load Windows from my C drive (as it always did on my old XP machine)?
Hey. I got my windows 7 installation cd today. and I put it into my brand new windows vista computer. the installation started, but then it suddently stopped where it said "the computer has to be restarted". After having this message on the installation screen for 15 min I clicked the off button on the computer, and started it again.
Then the nightmare began, when the computer starts, it says: "starting installation" - then the error message - "The installation process cannot be started". if I click ok. the computer restarts and the same happends. if I X it. the computer restarts and the same happens. Im completely stuck with this error and cant either go back to vista or keep installing windows 7.
Tried to hold down F8 when it starts, but nothing happens. For now I just want to go back to vista.
When I start my computer and desktop comes, there is a notification message, saying "windows could not connect to the group policy client service." So I checked whether group policy client service run using "services.msc", but it shows, it has been stoped and also I can't start the service there. When I checked the event viewer, in the "Windows logs>>System" There is a error message something like this. "There was an error while attempting to read the local hosts file." Event ID 1012.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a dell inspiron Laptop and I'm running (or trying to run) windows 7 home 64 bit
1.)One morning windows would not start all or a sudden (i'm guessing due to an automatic windows update), it would only let me go into the recovery mode.
2.)I tried several of the recovery options to no avail until i finally got one to work.
3.)After that windows was working but was EXTREMELY slow despite my best efforts
4.)I decided to do a complete factory restore using my restore disks (the ones you make when you first get the computer)
5.) this worked perfectly and windows seemed to be running great until I restarted, and on the restart it took me to a black and white screen that gives me the 3 instructions (none of which help). the status on that screen says 0xc000000e9
6.) the only thing i can do is boot to the recovery disk and reformat again, and the same thing then happens: windows works great until i turn off or restart, then I'm back at the black and white screen.
I have an Asus laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium. Last night it started having a problem where it cannot boot and gives the following error on a blue screen:"STOP: c0000135 The program can't start because %hs is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."I've found some threads linking this error to AVG, so I've already followed these directions:url...However, I'm still unable to start the computer without receiving this error. The computer has also attempted to run "Startup Repair" but it just says it "cannot repair this computer automatically."

View 6 Replies View RelatedI tried to un-hibernate my laptop this morning (I tend to only hibernate it overnight if I know I'm going to be using it immediately the following morning) and it won't let me log in.
By this I mean that it takes at least 15 minutes of the cursor in the middle of a black screen before it gets to the Login screen. The first time this happened, I was able to Login, but after that, none of the icons loaded up, only the taskbar. After which, a message popped up saying "WinLogin.exe - Bad Login". At which point I manually restarted the computer (as the Start button wasn't working) and chose "Start Windows normally." Now I am at the point that whenever it gets to the Login screen, it immediately restarts, and thus goes into a loop. I stopped this loop by manually restarting again, and selecting safe mode, at which point I got the following error message:
"WerFault.exe Application Error The instruction at 0x000007FEFD6C283C referenced memory at 0x000007FEFD6C283C. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of 0xc0000185. Click on OK to terminate the program." This was the only action I could take, so I did so. This immediately followed by an identical error message except with a different code, which began 0x000077....I was unable to see the rest because at that point the computer restarted.
Upon the next restart, I received a Blue Stop error message, which displayed for a few seconds before shutting down again. Key words I managed to see include: "There is an error with the program. The system was shut down to prevent damage to your computer. ...crucial thread issue...."
I literally have no idea what to do. If booting in Safe Mode has no effect, what can be done? I have also tried pressing F8 at the Dell startup screen (where it says to press F2 or F12 etc) but this just froze the machine!
I am running a 64 bit version of Windows 7 on a Dell Studio 1555 laptop.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen starting Internet Explorer, I keep getting and error message telling me that Windows Installer cannot be accessed. Now I cannot open Outlook, Word, iTunes etc. When I do try to open these programs, I get a message saying "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office Small Business 2007", but it doesnt seem to do anything. I've run a diagnostic (F12) and was alerted of the following error :Error Code 0142, Msg Error Code 2000-0142, Status 79. The system is extremely slow and I can only stay logged onto an IE page for a few minutes before it has to shut down. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a pc running Windows 7 64bit and for a week or two I have been having problems openeing Windows Explorer to view files etc. The first time I tried to open it, it would shutdown saying "Windows Explorer ash stopped working", but then when I tried again it worked. This was annoying but at least I could access my files to copy photos etc.
Today when I try to open it, I get an error saying "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information"
It comes up with this and then shuts explorer down, and everytime I do this I get the same. I have tried to access it through all the user accounts and get the same thing each time.
I have done a virus/malware check (I used Malwarebytes, AVG, and AdAware) and everything seems ok there, and I did a sfc/scannow (?) and that said everything was ok.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was unable to launch .exe applications that relied on the MSI installer. The solution was to go to services and start the 'windows installer service'...doing this fixed some of the issues but apparently not all of them. I still can't run Fireworks or AvastUI.exe and other apps such as Upgrade Advisor. Heck, I can't even run certain windows updates. I have a HP desktop running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. I know for a fact that there are no mal/ad/spyware on my computer.
I have ran Trojan Remover and removed all the junk that I'm sure caused the problem in the first place. Here are some windows provided solutions I have tried: I have ran all MS 'Fix-It' apps, uninstalled reinstalled my apps, went to command line ran 'msiexec /regserver'. I know windows installer is installed but its corrupted for sure. My last resort is to wipe out the OS and reinstall it.
Last night before I went to bed there was a Windows update, and this morning when I turned the pc on, it just went to this screen saying that something was wrong and i needed to repair. I clicked the repair box, but it didn't wanna do that. So I went into the system recovery tool to go back to (the only restore point) which is yesterday, but when I try and do that, it says "Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore.
