Have A VAIO VGNAR79OU With A Dead Hard Disk
Apr 6, 2012
I am currently in Amsterdam and Sony support was utterly useless. My vaio hard disk basically died on me, so I had to go out and buy new ones, I bought 2 500GB ones.As all was ok, I went from striped BIOS to Mirror so one disk mirrors the other.I then proceeded to perform a clean install of Windows 7 32 bits, installation went well until restart of services. From that point on I get the message that it can't complete installation.Upon requesting support from SONY VAIO customer support, they basically told me it would nto work because I changed the Hard disks.I mean they are same rpms, just 2 times 500GB.SONY helpdesk basically told me , go buy a new laptop, worst service ever. tbh.Have tried all kind of things, rebooting, doing reboots using safe mode nothing helps can't get past it, seems like installation is ok , but something is blocking me.

I have a hard drive that went dead (maybe not totally). Dell put in a new hard drive (like it was from the factory) and I am going to put the 'old' hard drive in the machine as a second drive and hopefully get some word documents etc. from the drive. Is it possible to copy files and from the old drive and install them into WLM and get back my folders and contacts from the old drive.

I purchased a new PC with Windows 7 in June 2012. It came with a Samsung optical disk containing Windows 7. I am eligible for the $14.99 USD upgrade to Windows 8.Will there be an installation disk for Windows 8 available at this price and if not, then how much more will it cost?If not, then how should I ensure that I can easily install Windows 8 after a hard disk crash? Do I have to keep my Samsung optical disk of Windows 7?

I bought an HP laptop with Vista Home Premium but have since had it stolen. I sent off for the Windows 7 Upgrade disks before that happened and just got them in the mail.
I have a Sony Vaio desktop that also has Vista Home Premium and figured I would just use the disk to upgrade that instead. Several problems though - the upgrade came with 2 disks - one of them being an 'HP Upgrade Manager' which figured out that I did not have an HP computer. The second problem is that I then just put in the 7 upgrade disk (Home Premium) but I got an error message that said that the version on the disk is not compatible with my system. Looked on the disk and on it is stated 'this disk contains 64-bit software only' and my desktop is a 32-bit system.
Anything I can do? Or do I just need to sell off the disks on ebay and then buy a retail version of the 7 upgrade?

My Sony Vaio froze on me and I shut it down by the power off button As soon as I rebooted it would go to the windows 7 loading screen and then go to a blue screen! I tried to restore my computer with the Sony restore disk. It would load then go to the blue screen and the mouse is present but it doesn't do anything from there! Sometimes it would bring up the command prompt and the I cursor blinks and nothing happens Then I tried to attemped and restore with Windows 7 disk and samething happens it loads and instead of a blue screen it is black with a mouse and doesn't do anything I tried pressing F12 and it says Check cable connection pme-mof: exiting intel pxe rom.
When I don't put a disk in it goes to a black screen that says If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, start up repair can help diagnose it!

for nearly every Sony Vaio model use the ASIAN Site they've even got hard to find stuff like the drivers for the Dual Sony MMC SDHC card reader.Original Drivers and Applications for VPCEH/EJ Series (Windows 7 64-Bit) Download: Sony Asia Pacific (Other models too.I was just chasing down stuff for a model I've been using).
Forget about those VILE sites that sucker you in to "Free Driver Search" -- and when they find something you have to PAY to access the relevant area (We call this stuff "Sneakerware" and it's becoming more and more prevalent - they say FREE DOWNLOAD but that's all that's free is the Download.

I've just bought Seagate Momentus XT 500GB and installed it myself to desktop. Downloaded DiskWizard from Seagate to clone my old hard disk into the new one.
Problem: How do I boot from the new hard disk? I still got my old hard disk on my computer, I'm trying to use it as extra storage, but it's still booting from the old C drive. How do I change it to boot from my new hard disk?

i installed windows 7 recently then after some while i did that "system rating" thing. right clicking on "computer" - "properties" - then there's "manufacturer" "model" then "rating" in the "system" section. while doing that power went off, because i didn't have the battery on and the charger got unplugged. i restarted the laptop and a message came up telling me that "operating system not found". so i decided to re-install windows 7. then after a while a message came up telling me that there is no hard disk installed. and press f3 to restart

I migrated from a 250 GB HDD to a 500 GB. I had around 230 GB of information wich I really didn't want to loose, so I cloned the old HDD to the new one with the software Acronis True Image Home.
Apparently, the cloning succeds, but when I disconnect the old Disk and try to boot from the new one, when I log on I get stuck in "preparing your session".

Windows 7 64bit has popped up saying it has detected a HDD problem, I need to back up my files immediately. I installed a new 2TB HDD (Samsung HD204UI) a couple of months ago, surely it shouldn't be failing already? This is my secondery disk. Is this by any chance a malware or virsus playing tricks on me?

if I asume that a machine can boot from a USB harddisk, is there a way to install windows 7 from a USB harddisk without having to format my USB Hardisk? I read a tutorial for installing windows 7 from a USB Key, and I assume it works with a USB Hardisk too, but since the drive size is 250GB it would be crazy to format all of that to create the ISO image.
would it be possible to create let's say a small 4 GB partition and make it active/primary and write the ISO to that partition, and boot from it?

When I first built my computer (about 8 months ago), I easily had 40 gigs free.I haven't installed anything of significant size since, but my drive is slowly becoming full and I don't know why! Now I'm at the point where it's almost completely full.
