View 1 RepliesI have a problem in Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.
I define the toolbars in my taskbar to point to quicklaunch & My Computer, but whenever I restart/shutdown the definitions vanish and I need to redefine which is really annoying.
I downloaded Windows Manager which was recommended here for saving of positions, sizes , etc of folders. It's a great software but I can't seem to use it to save these toolbar definitions, maybe I can and I just don't know how?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought my son a Toshiba Satellite C655-S5132 laptop running Windows 7 for Christmas. He used the laptop about a week ago, and a couple of days ago tried to use it and it won't boot. Most of the time when the computer is turned on there is simply a blank screen. Sometimes a scree will show up that has Toshiba's name on it with F2 go to utility manager and F12 go to boot manager in the bottom left corner then a blank screen. Then sometimes it screen with Toshiba's name and the F2 and F12 will show up and them after a while something that looks like and underline that is blinking will show up in the upper left hand corner and there will appear a message that says ...

No bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key
When it opens pressing F2 in Setup Utility the system date is correct, the System Date is correct and Language is in English. You can enter these three and change them. But the CPu Type, Cpu Speed, HDD/SSD, Total memoy Size, an Sytem Bios Version cannot be selected or entere. The boot manager can be entered and the boot sequence can be changed. Nothing else can be done, can't even enter safe mode.
Recently my Toshiba Satellite laptop which runs Windows 7 is not shutting down. When shutting down, I receive a message that there is a background program running. I have to shut down the computer using the power button. Before I shut down the computer, I close all opened programs and then I open the task manager to see if there are any applications still running and there aren't any running.

After which there is only a blinking cursor, There are no error beeps. Additionally the keyboard is entirely unresponsive: I can neither enter the F2 nor F12 menu. After powering I have left it sitting an hour but it was still a flashing cursor. It will not boot to usb if I put in a known to boot usb drive. Similarly it won't boot from a bootable CD or a DVD.

I tried to create one on my other win7 laptop but I only have cdrws and not dvdrws so I guess it failed because of lack of space to record everything? The cdrw did save some boot files but the Tosh laptop still couldn't load windows.I did manage to run the repair tool from the LT directly and when it finished it said the root cause was a corrupt registry. I presumed it had fixed it but windows still wouldn't load and now I only get the original problem message or the repair thing which never shows a windows and the HD stops sounding like it's actually scanning after about a 1/2 hour

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite A500 that was preinstalled with Windows 7 home premium. Went to turn it on today and got a screen that said: Windows Error recovery. Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. It then gives the option to run windows start up repair or run windows normally.
The repair option starts but ends up with a grey back ground screen and a mouse arrow on the screen. Nothing else happens after this. I tried the start Windows normally option but it gets as far as the Windows logo and no further.
The only recent change has been the addition of a new modem / router, other then that it has been business as usual with no changes.
I have Toshiba laptop with Vista installed.
I have 1GB RAM so is it OK to install 7 without problems?
I bought a new Toshiba laptop (L300-1DN) for someone this year and they have Vista SP2 on it (obviously fully included with Toshiba drivers etc. which are also on a recovery disk). There is an option to buy an upgrade version for Vista users of Win 7 HP, but I have already bought a full version of Win 7 Pro, and my preference is a clean install as I'm not too sure about the success rate of upgrades and efficiency of the new operating system afterwards...
Therefore if I do a clean install of Win 7 Pro, what's the situation regarding drivers? I was told that Win 7 has many manufacturers' drivers built into it's kernel and that any manual update of drivers should be minimal?
I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 that i just purchased a couple weeks ago. Every few days I keep getting the blue screen that warns me it's about to shut down to prevent damage to my computer or something...i can never read the entire message, it comes and goes so fast.
When I turn the computer back on, I keep getting various messages. Mostly that windows explorer has stopped working, MOM.exe application error, Microsoft.NET app error, my virus protection app error, so on and so on. These messages all pop up around the sametime. Some are even file corruption messages. Once i'm able to run a disk scan all that goes away....for a few days and then it starts over again.

Maybe once or twice a day - has never happened while I was using. Battery indicates full charge and working from AC. This is independent of Windows updates that force the laptop to reboot.

I just started using a new Toshiba laptop. Trouble is, opening and closing programs and browsing is slower then I feel it should be. Pages that loaded in 5 seconds on my old machine are taking 10 seconds on this new one, and opening programs causes a good 5 second delay. Also, once a webpage has finally loaded, scrolling jumps rather than move smoothly. Multiple tabs cause quite a bit of hanging as well.
The machine doesn't seem to be under stress, no fans kicking in or anything like that. But it's just not as quick as it should be. I've disabled a lot of things on startup that weren't required, and even turned off transparency in case it was hogging resources. I run AVG antivirus and Comodo Firewall.

I left my Toshiba Satellite mini laptop (NB255) with Windows 7 with my girlfriend while I am in Afghanistan. We skype all the time but she has a hard time using the laptop for browsing the internet. It constantly freezes and seems to be over loaded while running.I had this same issue while using it in Iraq for a year.I have guided her to clean up disk space, stop start up programs, deleted cookies, etc.Does anyone know how to help her speed this mini laptop up?? Also I am looking to buy another laptop with a max budget of 2500, I need a biometric scanner built in with a webcam, any suggestions??? I have always been fond of the Sony Vaios.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a year old Toshiba laptop that just stopped booting up this week. Worked fine Sunday, then Monday it would not start. Black screen with the option to repair or start normally. Repair goes through the motions and then states it was unsuccessful. Starting normally will eventually reach the desktop, but nothing will function at that point. The pointer is in perpetual hourglass when held over the task bar. Nothing, such as Explorer, will start.I pulled the hard drive out and connected it to another Win 7 computer via SATA/USB cable set. Initially, I could see the drive and access the files. Foolishly, I chose to run an antivirus before backing up the files. I was concerned about backing up the potential problem. MalwareBytes did not identify any malicious files, but Semantic threw up a warning about Yontoon-S.exe, so I attempted to delete it via Explorer. That action locked up Explorer. I rebooted the host computer. I should have backed up first because now I am unable to see the files. Explorer will assign the drive a letter, but when I select the drive to do anything, Explorer thinks about it for some time and then puts up a message that the drive must be formatted before it can be used. I do not want to reformat until I recover my data first. I tried to use SeaTools to diagnose drive problems. Drive fails the short generic test. I am not able to run Check Disk because Explorer thinks the drive must be formatted first. How can I get to the data before reformatting?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Laptop running on Windows 7. For the past week or so every time i turn on the laptop the entire computer seizes up and I can't do anything on it at all. At first it only did this after being on for an hour or two but since a windows automatic update it has become much worse and only lasts from 10 to 30 minutes. I have tried restoring to a previous date, CCleaner and Defraggler but as of yet it has not worked. The only time I get any use out of it is when it is on safe mode but it is not practical as I can't use many of the features I need to be able to do my work.

View 7 Replies View RelatedRecently got a Toshiba L755 and have been having an issue with audio & video playback since I got it. I have updated the latest drivers for the Conexant HD Audio card and this made no difference. Basically during playback there is an intermitant distorted sound during mp3 playback, video playback and online streams.
I have tried different programs and the same thing happens, however, when I have a LAN cable plugged in there is no issue - it is only when im connected to the net via wireless. I have a netgear router which is working fine.
Toshiba laptops which have problem CD/DVD drives seems to be fairly common. Mine can read a CD but not a DVD. I take the same DVD and it runs fine on my IBM running XP. I'm not convinced this is a hardware problem.
