I've had the ramnit virus on my computer. Long story short, i had to nuke my laptop to get rid of it. My problem is that the virus is on the USB stick. So is there anyway i can format the USB stick without the virus jumping onto my laptop?

Is there any advantage to using commercial software to format, or is the reinstall format listed in the tutorials as effective? My concern is that Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 (KIS) had corrupted data bases and after removal and reinstallation did not perform well. I could not download anything, e.g. CCleaner and received Certificate Error questions on certain websites. Also, I would like a fresh registry to insure previous programs like Chrome, Firefox, KIS, remnants are eliminated.

Does a quick format simply rewrite the FAT and a full format write 0's to the sectors? The reason I ask, is that I am concerned that the Linux Ext4 formatting may leave artifacts which I can do without. View 2 Replies View RelatedI was infected by a virus. It makes the shift key get repeatedly pressed over and over. This happened to me before and I solved it by scanning with MalwareBytes and AVG. When I went to scan with MalwareBytes it needed updating, so I let it. Unluckily for me MalwareBytes thought it would be kind and restart the computer without my consent. Now, due to the virus, I can't login to my account to do anything, even in safe mode.

Within minutes of logging onto my computer, a message keeps popping up that there is a critical error and that the computer will restart within one minute. I have tried to do anything I possibly can to get rid of this issue! It does the same thing while booting up in safemode as well. I also tried to restore my computer to a previous date before this occurred, and it still keeps happening. I figured i'd try to restore it to factory settings also, but it does not give me the option while booting up (f11), or on my control panel. I also tried using the TDSSkiller but my computer reboots before the scanning/fixing finishes.

View 4 Replies View RelatedOk so today i was clearing some data with the Disk Clean Up, almost right after that my computer became extremely slow and unresponsive, I found that my McAfee Security that came free with the laptop was Turned Off and it wont Turn On again. I have tried Installing AVG, running an Rkill that i downloaded last year and have done a System Restore as far back as possible but still my computer becomes unresponsive and wont open any programs unless i'm in safe mode.

I am running a Norton antivirus which has been pretty good up till now. The computer seems to be running fine but my email account has been hijacked and on finding this out I have checked the computer and tried to perform a scan of both the windows system and also my accounts to no avail.The desktop symbols are all in place but none of them are working. I have also tried running a scan in safe mode, once again it would not work. The task manager did not show any action with regards to the antivirus scan that I had requested it to perform.
