File Recovery After Crash?

was capturing video from a DV camera directly to my Windows 7 laptop NTFS hard drive using firewire (the performance was 2 hours with no break, so tape wasn't an option).After about 80 minutes the laptop just powered off - I think it had overheated.I've pulled the hard drive without switching the laptop on since it crashed. It's a 2�" SATA drive now attached to a USB adapter on a different Windows 7 PCI'm trying to recover as much of the AVI as I can, but it's not showing when I use undelete software. I'm hoping there is some trace of the file to start my recovery procedure: At the time of the crash, the PC must have been maintaining some record of the file's location, as it would be needed to prevent other processes from writing over the video data.

I am helping a friend with her Windows 7 laptop which crashed this evening. Startup repair has tried several times but still cannot fix the problem. System Restore fails as well despite trying numerous restore points.The log show that a root cause was found:
Boot critical file
C:CI.dll is corrupt
She has important personal data on this system so a fresh OS install is not an option yet.THis will be a good learning experience for me as I am looking into starting my own computer repair business. I'm not quite sure how to proceed with this. What should I do from here? Do I need to remove her HD and use a data recovery app on a separate system to recover her files, then reinstall Windows 7?

A week ago my computer crashed after my dad used it. It ran a System Fix which was a virus and a program I don't remember installing. Now when it boots it has a black screen that says Windows Memory Error and gives two options, Start Windows Recovery or Start Windows Normally. When he realized what he had done he tried the recovery tool first. It had a Windows is Loading files bar that didn't move at all so he left it on all night. It never moved, so he tried option 2 it brought up the 5 Recovery tools none of them did anything helpful. We tried using safe mode, it doesn't work either, brings back to useless Windows Recovery tools. We went out and Bought an OEM since the person we bought this from forgot to give us the Install Discs, We got to Repair Your Computer option below Install, it said our version of windows wasn't the right version for the OEM so it was a waste of $200. Now I am stuck and out of ideas. I've hooked the harddrives up to our old Windows XP and virus scanned, check disced, and backed up them. how to recover and repair without reformatting/wiping the HDD?

My hard drive crashed on my laptop. Before It crashed, It gave me a hard drive warning of imminent failure, and gave me an option to create recovery disks. I ended up creating 11 disks from the option. I installed the new hard drive and the BIOS reads that it will boot from the internal optical drive first. When I insert the first CD and start then computer, it continues to read "Operating system not found". When I look at the CD in another computer, it reads three files and one folder. The first file is an icon file which reads "Setup", the next is a "Media" bin file, and the last is an autorun setup information file. The last is a folder that contains various other backup files. My computer did not come with any copies of windows.

I have a brand new Windows 7 64bit build with a clean install from an Upgrade CD and noticed in BIOS that my 1st boot device must be "Windows Boot Manager" or it asks for the CD. I only have 1 storage device (SSD) in the system and when I look under Disk Management in windows, it shows a 100MB "EFI System Partition" in addition to the primary partition (which is labeled "Boot, Crash Dump, and Primary Partition" - so it seems to have the boot files on it).
My components are:
Intel i5 3570K
Gigabyte Z77-DS3H mainboard
16GB Crucial Ballistix
Intel 520 180GB SSD
LG BD optical drive
GTX 560ti
As I only have the one non-optical storage device I did not set any partition parameters at install. I Attempted to do a Startup Repair with the windows disc to maybe try and delete the EFI partition and got the "... System Recovery Options is incompatible with the version you are trying to repair" error. Not sure what that is. If Disk Management shows a healthy partition with "Boot" listed as being contained, why can I not select the SSD as boot device #1? I can boot perfectly fine with the Windows Boot Manager listed as boot device #1 and the SSD as #2, however it's not ideal.

The last system change I made to Excel was to be able to open files as an Administrator. I managed to do that but I don't know how to reverse this. So why am I concerned? Ever since I did this I have not been able to open the specific file involved with the open-as-admin. After several attempts, I did get an error indicating that the file caused serious errors the last time is was opened.

I have been getting a BSOD when playing civ 5 and my computer will not create a minidump file! I followed all of the steps in the guide on how to make your computer create a minidump file. Is there any other way to get it to create one?

I'm looking for a way to crash a Windows 7 computer, using a batch file. I know a decent amount about DOS/Batch files, but I don't know exactly how to crash a windows 7 computer using a batch file, because there was only one way I really wanted to do it, but with Windows 7 security fail safe, I can't take control and delete my "c:windowssystem32" folder. You're probably asking me why I would like to do this, and the reason is because it's a school project. My instructor would like us to crash one of this lab computers using a batch file, which all I can do is Right-click>Run As Administrator.
But I'm not here for that, all I'm curious about is some different, unique, cool ways to crash a Windows 7 computer. Had a power failure during a recovery of an Acronis backup on my C: drive. It seems it happened while Acronis just started loading the backup files? When I restarted the Samsung Laptop local drive C: did not appear in Explorer. Only drive D: and my DVD drive E: appeared (C an D are partitions on the same hard disk). The recovery software was on a hidden partition but when trying to use the Samsung Recovery facility it say Drive C: not found.After trying out suggestions found on the internet I only managed to screw everything up resulting in also loosing the D: drive containing my Acronis backup. The laptop did not start at all. I at last managed to get it going after installing Windows 7 again and I then sit with only C System Disk, D System reserved and E: DVD drive at that point.Foolishly I shrinked the system disk C and created a data disk. That disk is now Data Disk F. and not D as original.The Acronis backup containing all my files and data was on the original Data Disk D:I have used various free software to try and find that specific file. But they all search by drive and the missing file must be somewhere on the disk either as lost or wrong drive letter or something.

I just purchased an Asus X54C laptop that came with 7-64bt, the first thing I did was run the backup/restore and created a system image roughly 24gb in size on my logical partition of the HD.
I then installed the customer preview of Windows 8, which I was under the impression defaulted a dual-boot setup as long as you have Windows 7 and choose to keep all of your existing data, which I did.
Long story short, my Asus didn't come with the restore media, which I guess a lot of laptops don't come with. So, I was able to get a copy of Windows 7 so I can at least install over my Windows 8 so I can then start over with my backup that I created.
The version of Windows 7 is x86, but my backup is x64, I restarted into the restore screen and was shown that yes I have the image for the C drive, but I cannot restore for some reason.
Do I need to be on Windows 7 x64 to use my restore image?

I had a file recovery malware infection that i first cleaned with malwarebytes antimalware. Then i ran hitman pro and then it said it would delete a volume boot record and to restart pc.
When i restarted pc it wont boot up now. It says a disk read error has occured press ctrl alt del to restart. I cant even restart with ctrl alt del.
I tried to do a system restore but there are no restore points shown. That file recovery malware hid a lot of files i think and it seems like the main disk drive is now drive H.

ImageShack� - Online Photo and Video Hosting I just did a 2 pass overwrite of my entire HDD using copywipe, but yet Easus is still finding over 60,000 + NTFS file records and near 4,000 files identified?Why didn't the overwrite erase this data? I have this laptop with Windows 7 as the operating system and with a capacity of 500 GB. My HDD was making loud noises and weird noises so I brought it to the shop and they told me to change the HDD because it might die anytime. So I did a full backup on my external hard disk, meaning that I cloned my laptop. I changed my 500gb HDD with a 240gb SSD. And when I tried to restore my backup files into the new drive, there's an error: "no disk that can be used for recovering the system disk can be found".
So I did some research on the internet and found out the reason of the error: it's because the image created was from a bigger drive than the new drive I put into my laptop. Even though my backup files are only about 100gb, I still cant restore it to my 240gb SSD because the image created was from my 500gb HDD. I am going to copy my backup files into an external hardisk with a capacity of 200gb and then backup from that drive and then I will restore it into my 240gb SSD. Will the backup file be considered as a backup from the 200gb drive or from the original 500gb HDD?

I read through a few threads with similar topics but the issues were either not quite the same and/or resolved comparatively easily. I am trying to repair a 1.5 year-old HP Pavilion running Windows 7 Home Premium 64. This machine is used as the main office computer in a small doctor's office. In spite of my warnings, anti-virus software was not installed until it was too lateThere was a major issue about seven months ago that required another company to repairThe problem is explorer.exe will not run. Double-clicking a shortcut on the desktop, clicking the text name of a program from the Start menu, and even in the cmd results in the same response, a dialog box pops up stating windows explorer has stopped working.
windows is checking for a solution to the problem. followed by another box stating windows explorer is restarting. But the requested application never starts. I have run the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Win, replaced the hard drive and cloned all data, run numerous registry scans, malware scans and antivirus scans. Initially removing over 1500 virus/malware hits and over 1400 registry errors. But the main problem persists, explorer.exe won't open programs.

I have Unallocated space at the very end of my hard drive, even after the 25gb Recovery Partition, this is due to copying my old hard drive onto this new one via Clonezilla, and it automatically keeping the unallocated space at the end. Can I either move the unallocated space around the Recovery Partition, or delete the Recovery Partition altogether? Sorry if I am being a little unclear.

I've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows.However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore.It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.

It seems to me that XP's recovery console is somewhat better than the one that comes with Vista or 7, unless someone can point me in the right direction for finding further documentation on this topic.
The main difference is the lack of ability to tinker with services (LISTSVC / ENABLE / DISABLE commands). A missed opportunity is the lack of registry tweaking, considering that REGEDIT can be run, but I think it only allows you to look at the registry for the recovery console rather than the main Windows installation, which doesn't help much (though I haven't tried to import/mount the registry file from the main Windows installation).

whenever I open docx file there is hidden file ~$name of file.docx created. which type of file is that? Is it in virus, maleware. for example If I open house.docx file then ~$house.docx file created which is hidden form. My computer is currently stuck on a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner. I tried rebooting from a bootable disk and from a bootable flash drive and neither one worked. My machine is an HP Pavilion Elite HPE-110f. I am running on the 64 bit version. I've had a notebook (asus N51V with a T9550 and 4 GB of RAM with Windows 7 Ultimate) for over three years and I've not had any significant problem until a couple of days ago. Now, after it has completelly booted and I've opened some applications (for example Eclipse, Windows updates or even no applications) it appears the BSOD with the page_fault_in_nonpaged_area STOP: 0x00000050 and other information. I've managed to get the minidump and to do a "photo" of the BSOD with my cell. I'm attaching the minidump, but if someone need it I can put also the photo.I've not added any new hardware for over a year and I've not installed any significant and heavy software in the last couple of months, so I do not know what can it be. To be sure I've also done the memtest86 an it did not found any error.

i`ve just purchased a hp deskjet 3055a wirelesss printer.its set up to a home network with 3 pc`s using it 1 is xp home, 2 is win 7 hp 32bit and my main machine is win 7 hp 64bit.the last machine is giving me a problem it does not always turn on the print spooler service if i try turning it on in admin services it will not, only by restarting will it work the other machines on the network work fine.

first of all i would like to excuse for my rusty english... passed some time since i last wrote something completely in english ;-)
i'm using the x86 version of build 7000 and i'm very fascinated of how it works already in this beta-stage. but i have a strange crashing-issue from time to time that does not allow me further testing.
from time to time all of my usb-ports seem to block everything: my usb-soundcard stops working, my wireless-adapter, my external hd, everything that's plugged-in into an usb-port stops working.
it happens when i'm using my soundcard, videocard or both of them: playing games, watching dvds, browsing Internet, listening to music, etc.
when i'm trying to reboot, the os will stuck in the logging-off-screen 'cause it's trying to play the logoff-sound over my soundcard..
