Recently I have been receiving lots of File Permission Errors when saving documents.I have searched the internet endlessly and have still not found a solution.Sometimes, when I save from Word (2010) I get this error: Quote :Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error.
View 9 RepliesSometimes, when I save a image from Firefox to my Desktop, an error appears, saying that I don't have permission to save the file, and to contact the computer administrator or something like that. However, a 0 byte file with the name is created, and if I try to save the image again over the old one, it always succeeds.
I know it's not a big deal, but it's annoying. I wonder if anyone else has this problem? Before someon ask: there's only this user account on this computer, with full administrator rights, and no network computers.
The contents of several file and folders has gone missing. This includes the "My Pictures" library (my biggest concern) and a few others. Like a couple random Games, Steam, just odd seemingly random folders. This may have been caused by some recent changes, which I will get into- but I am pretty close to just saying several thousand pictures are just...gone.Secondary Problem: I recently had a pretty scary ordeal with the user profiles on my machine. When attempting to login, it would state that the User settings had been altered and would not let me log in. That has been taken care of now, but I feel the two problems are connected, and this is why:Several days ago I was attempting to install a Logitech Web Camera onto my Windows 7 X86 OS. Logitech does not provide drivers for this OS or support the installation, but I have in fact been able to install it in the past with some clever workarounds. While attempting to re-create the troublesome install I had used in the past I caused the Profile problem.The Logitech cam Drivers (Model V-uu22 Drivers for Vista if that is important) touch many parts of the machine they are installed on. There is a sub-folder that is installed in the "My Pictures" folder for storing your webcam snapshots, then a folder in the "Movies" library for a similar function. There is also a sub folder that is placed in the user profile area that stores your user information (I assume) So, while installing these drivers and trying to get them to work again my machine froze up mid-install and demanded a reboot. Upon reboot the user profile would not let me login, then when I rebooted once more to attempt to fix it, the boot file was destroyed. So, in goes the recovery disc, boot from CD and fixed the boot.ini file. Finally gain access to the windows logon and still the problem remains. It took hours to figure this whole thing out. booted into safe mode, deleted the improper SID (SP?) for the users that had somehow been created and ended up just having to use a restore point to undo all the changes. Long story short, I got it working and now the file contents are all wonky.
Now, seeing as I used a restore point to fix the issues, I don't see how the logitech install could have been the culprit, but all of my pictures are gone. I have searched the machine, used a file recovery service, looked all over and now I am coming here.Steps taken to find pictures: File recovery, Showing hidden files, searching all files, Ensuring that the user profiles had not been damaged, lots of google searches, you name it.I did notice, however, that there were hidden files and folders on both my drives that are labeled "pictures", "movies" etc. But I cannot access them. I am on an administrator account, I attempted to change the file permissions using the properties interface of the folders and do not have access, even tried the takedown command on them, but I am not using FAT. I simply have no idea what to do now.
Another thing of note: I use my XBOX 360 to wireless stream content from my machine to the Televisions in my home. I notice that the pictures all made it to the Console, and are viewable- but it seems as if the XBOX has created another User profile that I have no access to and moved the items in question there.All in all this has been very perplexing, and I know the pictures are there, somewhere, and have not been deleted- I just have trouble wrapping my head around what user profile they may be in and how to gain access to that folder.
Specs: MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1, AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 45nm Technology, Mobo: ASRock M3A770DE, AMD Radeon HD 6800.
I also have Hijackthis reports and have run full anti-virus and anti spyware on the machine several times.
I searched everywhere on the internet and nothing works. I need to take ownership or a file so i can delete it but it does not let me. Command prompt does not work. It's really starting to annoy me that I cannot delete these files.

Kensington said download new "Setup.exe" file when that gave same error, they said not our problem go away. also tried run as admin - same problem!
Lenovo said software is not under warranty it will cost a lot of money to troubleshoot - call microsoft.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to move a .dll file from one of my folders in Downloads to Program Files (x86)/some_folder, but it keeps showing "you require permission from my_machine/Owner to make changes to this file", so I can't finish the job; I tried take owner ship of the dll file, but it didn't work.
Here is what I tried: First of all, I changed the own ship of the .dll file located in Download folder to my_machine/Owner(full control), and then i changed the own ship of program files(x86)/destination folder to my_machine/Owner(full control) as well; then tried to move the dll file to the destination, failed. Then I turned off the UAC, tried but failed again. The error msg is still "you require permission from my_machine/Owner to make changes to this file".
For days now, I've been looking to solve an issue I'm having regarding the permission settings. For whatever reason I simply cannot move a specific dll file, I then get the following message : "you require permissions from Everyone to make changes to this file" ==> it says "make changes" although all I want to do is copy and paste the dll file elsewhere...
So far, I've tried running the takeownership program, I've ran Registry Booster (who knows?), of course my user account settings are on "never notify me" AND YET I just can't copy/paste this dll file. I've got all the latest Win7 (64-bit) updates, AVG 9 AV+firewall (which I even turned off), I'm running an AMD Phenom II x4 3.00 Ghz, 4,00 GB RAM...and that's about it I guess.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. This is the first software I've ever had a problem with. Is this a Windows problem or a VMware problem? Does VMware Workstation need admin privileges even though it's a separate program?
I once deleted Windows 7 installation files on one of my drives using a Linux distro. Now all the files appear in a folder named ".Trash-0" and now when I try to delete the folder it says "You need permission from trusted installer to make changes to this file". I tried deleting the folders using another Linux distro but the folder is nowhere to be found when I boot using a Linux distro. I guess this is happening because Windows doesn't let you delete windows installation files even if they do not belong to the current installation. Is there a work around for this?

My hosts file has always contained entries for local websites and has always worked until now. After much hair pulling and reading of forums, the only way that I could get the DNS Client to read and process the hosts file was by adding the "NETWORK SERVICE" user permission to it. It already had "SYSTEM", "Administrators" and "Users" (my user account). This was never required before, so I'm confused as to what has happened to require it now?

I have a 4GB ram drive and I am trying to set the paging file to it, but every time I restart it sends me an error message saying it doesn't have enough space, and it resets the paging file to my boot drive. whats confusing me is I know the ram drive has enough space.

This computer was just put on the Internet for the first time this week I'm thinking its an ISP error but if it's an issue within the computer what could be causing it. A disk check was ran and came up with no errors all cookies and temp files were deleted.

I thought it was the graphics card itself, so i exchanged it for a new one - the problem still persists. I also uninstalled all the drivers, and try'd new ones. I even try'd some of there BETA drivers - still nothing.Who crashed says it's a driver issue, so i'm guessing that's what it is. Considering I've run several diagnostic tools to see if my hardware was the issue.

The macbook's we have connect and transfer large amounts of files just fine to the mac mini. No issues at all, even on wireless. The issue is when trying to transfer files from the Windows machines to the mac mini. You select just one 150mb file to copy over, and it might fail at 30mb or 120mb transferring giving an error like file or path is not available. However you can hit retry a few times and it might continue or restart, sometimes you have to cancel and copy the file over again. It acts like it loses the path, but you can instantly navigate to the server again instantly like there was never an issue. If you select a bunch files to transfer, lets just say like 2000 files, and its a total of 4gb. You will have to hope the retry works when the error happens or click skip and redo the file after. Nothing stands out that is causing this, but it is either an issue with the Mac & Samba transfer, router setting, or a Windows setting / registry issue causing it.I tried to search google, but most things that come up are how to setup sharing from mac to windows. Can't exactly find anyone else talking about this, except I did find 1 thread on Mac Rumors forums talking about it but it just had 2 people say they have the same issue, and 1 person said he had no issues.
I have been using Windows 7 for quite some while (2 or more weeks) on this new PC. Now...problem is, Task Manager shows a massive page-file usage. 1.40 GB used as soon as my PC starts (without loading any programs). I have 4 GB RAM, out of which, 3305 MB is usable (Microsoft licensing issues keep messing around with 32-bit Windows), and the page-file usage slowly gets to around 3 GB. I have 4 partitions on my 1 TB HDD, and I had 2-4 GB page-file on each. I disabled the page-files on all the partitions, but TM still shows a massive usage of 2.5 GB as I am writing this article. I mean, there's 4 GB RAM, and even without running any programs, it's still around 1.40 GB page-file usage.
I disabled Superfetch and the page-file on all the drives, now Windows is giving me out-of-memory errors. The only things open are Google Chrome, Windows Live Messenger, mIRC, Windows Media Player, Task Manager, Yahoo Messenger and Bit-Torrent, and none eat memory. TM is showing 710 MB RAM available out of 3304 MB, and 70 MB free. IDK what is using the RAM and causing this big a page-file usage. My PC is gone very slow, and it sucks. Any way to reduce this much disk-activity, and actually use the RAM? Nothing in the TM shows active (CPU is always at 0-5 %), so nothing is eating memory. What's causing this much RAM and page-file usage?
I'm trying to move some files from my old (soon to be retired) XP Pc to my new Win 7 PC but am having problems?I am the only user on both machines and after checking user accounts on both machines I am described as Administrator. On the Win 7 machine I have UAC set at "Never Notify".I tried to map the C: drive on the Win 7 PC as drive Z: on the XP machine (I can see the Win 7 drive on the win XP Machine ). but it says "access is denied" When I do it the other way around I can map the Win XP drive on the Win 7 machine with no problems, but there are some files it won't let me copy over. View 5 Replies View RelatedA wire came loose in my laptop charger so I asked for a replacement, but the supplier was adamant that there was something wrong with the port in my laptop, not the charger (he was wrong), so they took it away to fix. Anyway, a member of their staff took my hard drive out to copy a couple of my files to a disk for me as I needed them asap and couldn't get my laptop charging. Apparently that's all they did.Today I got my laptop back and things are not right. I am the administrator and there are no other user accounts on my computer. I am recognised as the administrator when I go on Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts. But now all of a sudden I can't access Music, Pictures, Videos or Documents from the start menu. It just does nothing and says nothing when I click on them. I went on 'Computer' and tried to access them from the 'Libraries' menu at the left side. It didn't let me and didn't come up with any error message. It also didn't let me see the properties of them or do any of the other right-click options. It was saying at the bottom that they were completely empty, so I just deleted them and thought I'd make new ones with the 'Create Library' option. But when I go on this it says "Unable to create the file 'New Library.library-ms' Access is denied". I tried to restore the four Libraries from my recycle bin. It came up with a message saying "You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this folder". I clicked on continue, then a box popped up saying "Destination Folder Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action". Permission off who?! It's MY computer!
When I located my files the long way (Computer - Windows (C:) - Users ... etc.), all my documents were read-only and had a padlock on their icons, so I changed that. It won't let me view my pictures (says I don't have the correct permissions to access the file location). I can copy and paste the pictures so that it will let me view the copies, but it says things like "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file" for everything I try to do. It gives me the option to continue, but it's annoying me because I have to keep giving permission for things that it should just let me do.
I have 2 programs on two seperate computers where UAC comes up and asks me if I wish to run the programs. These programs do not require administrator rights (Truecrypt and iSpy) and the check beside "Run program as administrator" is not checked in either the shortcut or the actual executable file.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi am trying to create a new site in dreamweaver. the site will have a coldfusion extension (.cfm). i am the only user on my notebook so i have complete administrator privileges. however, when i try to save the site in the c:inetpubwwwroot folder (because that's where coldfusion applications are saved) i always get an error.the error says: "you don't have permission to save to this location. contact the administrator to obtain permission" i thought i was the administrator? i am unable to change the settings in the security tab in the properties panel either. that is the extent of my troubleshooting capabilities.
