Deleting Trash-0 / Need Permission From Trusted Installer To Make Changes To This File
Jan 31, 2013
I once deleted Windows 7 installation files on one of my drives using a Linux distro. Now all the files appear in a folder named ".Trash-0" and now when I try to delete the folder it says "You need permission from trusted installer to make changes to this file". I tried deleting the folders using another Linux distro but the folder is nowhere to be found when I boot using a Linux distro. I guess this is happening because Windows doesn't let you delete windows installation files even if they do not belong to the current installation. Is there a work around for this?

I have a netbook running Win 7 Starter.I noticed when trying to change the wallpaper that I do not have permission to perform certain tasks - even with an administrator account. I got a message saying I need permission from Windows TrustedInstaller.Having googled for help on changing permissions, I tried, but the options are greyed out. If such trivial changes are blocked, then I imagine that there are other things I can't do either. Is there a way round this without upgrading (definitely would not consider) or switiching to Linux (would consider if necessary).

I was browsing through my program files while working on getting Unreal Tournament to host multiplayer when I came across a folder called "DVD Maker."
I've never installed anything like it.I went to control panel, uninstall programs, and I did not find it.I tried to delete it and it says that I do not have permission to delete the folder, only "TrustedInstaller" does. I tried to give myself permissions, (I am on my administrator account) and it fails.

When I try to delete the normal way i get an error msg that says I need permission from TrustedInstaller. I get the same msg if I try to rename any of the files in this folder. I booted into safe mode and I get the same thing. I also used Revo Uninstaller and it looked like it worked, but the folder & files were still there. I also tried to delete in command prompt mode and got a "permission denied" message. I then clicked on the folder, then properties>security>edit. I got an access denied message. I also tried to delete TrustedInstaller in the list of users and got the access denied message.

Whenever I try to change something in program files, windows doesn't allow me, says that: You require permission from administrators to make changes to this file. But I am the administrator, I have checked alot of times.

I am trying to move a .dll file from one of my folders in Downloads to Program Files (x86)/some_folder, but it keeps showing "you require permission from my_machine/Owner to make changes to this file", so I can't finish the job; I tried take owner ship of the dll file, but it didn't work.
Here is what I tried: First of all, I changed the own ship of the .dll file located in Download folder to my_machine/Owner(full control), and then i changed the own ship of program files(x86)/destination folder to my_machine/Owner(full control) as well; then tried to move the dll file to the destination, failed. Then I turned off the UAC, tried but failed again. The error msg is still "you require permission from my_machine/Owner to make changes to this file".

I'm trying to move some files from my old (soon to be retired) XP Pc to my new Win 7 PC but am having problems?I am the only user on both machines and after checking user accounts on both machines I am described as Administrator. On the Win 7 machine I have UAC set at "Never Notify".I tried to map the C: drive on the Win 7 PC as drive Z: on the XP machine (I can see the Win 7 drive on the win XP Machine ). but it says "access is denied" When I do it the other way around I can map the Win XP drive on the Win 7 machine with no problems, but there are some files it won't let me copy over. It says:"You need permission to perform this action""You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file"

A wire came loose in my laptop charger so I asked for a replacement, but the supplier was adamant that there was something wrong with the port in my laptop, not the charger (he was wrong), so they took it away to fix. Anyway, a member of their staff took my hard drive out to copy a couple of my files to a disk for me as I needed them asap and couldn't get my laptop charging. Apparently that's all they did.Today I got my laptop back and things are not right. I am the administrator and there are no other user accounts on my computer. I am recognised as the administrator when I go on Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts. But now all of a sudden I can't access Music, Pictures, Videos or Documents from the start menu. It just does nothing and says nothing when I click on them. I went on 'Computer' and tried to access them from the 'Libraries' menu at the left side. It didn't let me and didn't come up with any error message. It also didn't let me see the properties of them or do any of the other right-click options. It was saying at the bottom that they were completely empty, so I just deleted them and thought I'd make new ones with the 'Create Library' option. But when I go on this it says "Unable to create the file 'New Library.library-ms' Access is denied". I tried to restore the four Libraries from my recycle bin. It came up with a message saying "You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this folder". I clicked on continue, then a box popped up saying "Destination Folder Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action". Permission off who?! It's MY computer!
When I located my files the long way (Computer - Windows (C:) - Users ... etc.), all my documents were read-only and had a padlock on their icons, so I changed that. It won't let me view my pictures (says I don't have the correct permissions to access the file location). I can copy and paste the pictures so that it will let me view the copies, but it says things like "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file" for everything I try to do. It gives me the option to continue, but it's annoying me because I have to keep giving permission for things that it should just let me do.

When I try to delete this program from the program files and program files(x86) folderes, I get a message that I need permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes. So I went into the properties and changed the sharing settings, to share with myself of course. I have only been able to give myself permissions in one of the folders. After doing this, it lets me begin deleting. It begins going through several screens informing that it is a shared folder, that deleting it will affect other users but it eventually comes back to the message that I need permission to get rid of something on myown computer!

It started when I tried to update Directx. It always displays the same error message: Quote: "A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted. Please verify the Cryptographic Services are enabled and the cabinet file certificate is valid." After following several walk-throughs on the Microsoft websites I discovered that none of my Windows updates had been working either.I'm getting error: 80246008 when I try to run windows update which suggests a problem with something called Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS), as I've read. So I open Services in the Control Panel and try to start it manually and I get yet another error code. Quote: Error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start Also, I don't know if it's relevant or not but one of the Walk-throughs I followed had me type the following commands in the prompt and the following returned with error messages: Quote:
regsvr32 /u initpki.dll
regsvr32 /u gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 /u sccbase.dll
regsvr32 /u slbcsp.dll

The contents of several file and folders has gone missing. This includes the "My Pictures" library (my biggest concern) and a few others. Like a couple random Games, Steam, just odd seemingly random folders. This may have been caused by some recent changes, which I will get into- but I am pretty close to just saying several thousand pictures are just...gone.Secondary Problem: I recently had a pretty scary ordeal with the user profiles on my machine. When attempting to login, it would state that the User settings had been altered and would not let me log in. That has been taken care of now, but I feel the two problems are connected, and this is why:Several days ago I was attempting to install a Logitech Web Camera onto my Windows 7 X86 OS. Logitech does not provide drivers for this OS or support the installation, but I have in fact been able to install it in the past with some clever workarounds. While attempting to re-create the troublesome install I had used in the past I caused the Profile problem. The Logitech cam Drivers (Model V-uu22 Drivers for Vista if that is important) touch many parts of the machine they are installed on. There is a sub-folder that is installed in the "My Pictures" folder for storing your webcam snapshots, then a folder in the "Movies" library for a similar function. There is also a sub folder that is placed in the user profile area that stores your user information (I assume) So, while installing these drivers and trying to get them to work again my machine froze up mid-install and demanded a reboot. Upon reboot the user profile would not let me login, then when I rebooted once more to attempt to fix it, the boot file was destroyed. So, in goes the recovery disc, boot from CD and fixed the boot.ini file. Finally gain access to the windows logon and still the problem remains. It took hours to figure this whole thing out. booted into safe mode, deleted the improper SID (SP?) for the users that had somehow been created and ended up just having to use a restore point to undo all the changes. Long story short, I got it working and now the file contents are all wonky.
Now, seeing as I used a restore point to fix the issues, I don't see how the logitech install could have been the culprit, but all of my pictures are gone. I have searched the machine, used a file recovery service, looked all over and now I am coming here.Steps taken to find pictures: File recovery, Showing hidden files, searching all files, Ensuring that the user profiles had not been damaged, lots of google searches, you name it.I did notice, however, that there were hidden files and folders on both my drives that are labeled "pictures", "movies" etc. But I cannot access them. I am on an administrator account, I attempted to change the file permissions using the properties interface of the folders and do not have access, even tried the takedown command on them, but I am not using FAT. I simply have no idea what to do now.
Another thing of note: I use my XBOX 360 to wireless stream content from my machine to the Televisions in my home. I notice that the pictures all made it to the Console, and are viewable- but it seems as if the XBOX has created another User profile that I have no access to and moved the items in question there. All in all this has been very perplexing, and I know the pictures are there, somewhere, and have not been deleted- I just have trouble wrapping my head around what user profile they may be in and how to gain access to that folder.
Specs: MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1, AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 45nm Technology, Mobo: ASRock M3A770DE, AMD Radeon HD 6800.
I also have Hijackthis reports and have run full anti-virus and anti spyware on the machine several times.

I have a good friends Dell computer running Windows 7 and 8G PNY flash drive. She accidentally deleted an entire folder from her flash drive that had her entire semester of MBA class work. Not realizing that she deleted the folder off her flash drive she emptied her trash bin on her computer. The Folder contained two other folders and inside one folder was all her word documents and powerpoint presentations and the other folder contained all her excel files and class assignments. I have tried running a recovery program (Search & Recover - Recovered Erased Files by iolo tech) on the flash drive and the hard drive but have not gotten any results.

When I go to open a file in Windows Media Player (and indeed many other programs), there is a box to put in (or click on) the file name. On the right end of this box is a little down arrow which, when clicked, provides a drop-down list of previously opened files. A picture of what I am talking about is below:is there a way to delete this list? I cannot really find a way to do it in the Options settings for the program. Alternatively, is there a setting somewhere that can be adjusted to not store these settings?
