During an upgrade from XP to Windows 7 Ultimate I used Easy Transfer.Towrads the end of the transfer back to the computer from an external disk, the transfer crashed. I was able to complete the upgrade but a few files are missing.I am unable to transfer again the files.Is there a way to look into the MIG files, locate certain files and extract them?

So I went to the series of iso files and extracted them to a new folder but 4 minutes later all the files were in just one big iso and when I tried to extract that, it said the archive couldn't be accessed. I'm not trying to make a bootable disk; I need the files within the iso and I would rather not waste DVDs unnecessarily.

Unfortunately, Backup and Restore cannot see the backup location from my previous install, so I can't get my files back that way.
I presume that the VHD file I see in the backup folder is the system image of the previous install.
Is there any way I can extract my files from this VHD using some software package, or even convert it to another format such as ISO and extract my files that way?
There's a lot of great pics and stuff there that I don't even remember where I got it from, so I'm pretty desperate to get it all back.
I have a dell xps 14 ,core i7 740qm,window 7 64bit home premium,4gb ram,500 hdd 7200rpm and dvd burner.Since the day i bought that laptop i can't extract some rar files.I have tried copying it to my hard disk and even tried make an image copy and open it in virtual drive but still no luck,it keep showing me that window don;t know how to open it.Other desktop pc DVDdrive can extract it easily.I have installed 7zip and WINRAR.But the extraction isn't happening.Since then when ever i want to extract a zipfile (which i can't extract on my laptop)i have to borrow a friend pc to extract it.

View 0 Replies View RelatedMy font collection is in need of a radical overhaul. I use High Logics Main Type as my font manager. But that's by the by, this isn't about fonts solely. I've come across the situation where I need to collect all the files together from multiple sub folders before. I want to know the easiest way of extracting all the data from, say, 500+ sub folders, and dumping it all in the parent/a.n.other folder. At the moment, with fonts, it's a piece of pish, I search for ttf files in the main folder with locate32, highlight them all, cut 'n' paste into the new folder. I then use RED 2.1 to delete the empty folders, go back into the parent folder to see what folders are left, open one, get the file extension, use locate32 to search for file extensions in parent folder, and so on and so forth. Easier to do than type, but still a bit long winded. Does anyone know of an easier way or a 3rd party portable app.?

I can't use the .exe provided because it will only install on the Vista OS, extracting it would bypass this check and force install.

I've got an Epson printer where the only driver is one that came with Windows 7 X-64.
There hasn't been a driver for this printer since XP from Epson BTW - an A3+ size Photoprinter 1290.
There weren't even any VISTA drivers from Epson - but I skipped VISTA anyway. The printer is STILL good and I like the occasional A3+ size prints so I don't want to get rid of it -- newer printers are usually A4 max unless you spend serious money. And if a device is still perfectly functional why should I junk it.
Is there any decent tool to extract the driver out of a running Windows 7 system and install in Windows 2008. In theory it should be possible.
Otherwise Windows 2008 server seems to run anything Windows 7 X-64 does.

But this command seems to be overriden when one uses PowerDesk, replaced by the PowerDesk Zip/Unzip utility. My friend installed Windows 7 Home Premium on her laptop. Her previous Operating System was Vista, which was factory installed. Every file she had on Vista was put into a folder titled Windows Old after Windows 7 was installed; we both knew this would happen so my friend backed up some files.
This laptop, an HP Pavillion dv6700, has WiFi capability. The problem is the software/ drivers for this are in the folder Windows Old and can't be opened and used. Is there a way to extract these files so they may be used again?

With gpedit.msc in Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network -> Offline Files, I enabled "exclude files by caching", entering (in the appropriate field), *.nef; *.cr2 But the files with this extension are synchronized anyway.

When I edit a file from my Win 7 (pro, 64-bit) laptop, then go to edit it again, I get the version I had changed, but no one else does. This is causing huge difficulty, because my employees will start working in a sales forecast spreadsheet after I reconnect to the network and supposedly sync, but they don't get the latest version. Even doing a manual sync seems to make no difference.

This problem has been going on for some time, but has been more of a problem since I started using the RAMdisk. Not because the RAMdisk itself isn't working well, because the stuff that is stored there keeps getting reset.I have pretty much identified that when updates are installed through windows update (either from Microsoft update or from my WSUS server), the following are reset to defaults
1. Pagefile is automatically managed and stored on the C: drive and is set to 32gb
2. The TEMP and TMP environment variables are reset to the C:users default location
3. The temporary Internet Files location is reset to the default C:users... location
There may be others that I have not discovered.I have manually set my swap file to 1024/2048 on the D: drive (a spinner), on the belief that it should rarely if ever be needed with a system equipped with 32GB of RAM. I'm certainly not inclined to waste 32GB of space on my SSD for an unused object.I have placed the TMP/TEMP files, cookies and Temporary Internet files on the RAMdisk to squeeze a little extra performance out of the system. (Yes, I know, I'm not really getting much benefit).Photoshop and a few other programs also use the RAMdisk as a scratch disk, and were the main reason I set it up in the first place.This is becoming a real pain when it gets reset as I have to manually change everything again. Anyone know a way to make windows leave settings at what I set them, instead of having it continually reset the values to what it wants? I'd prefer to have it my way. I know there will be proponents of "leave things as windows wants it".

My file and storage system is set up like this:
C: Drive - 120 GB SSD This is my Win 7 64-Bit Ultimate Boot drive. It has my most important Microsoft programs on it. Out of the 111GB available, I've used 42GB, leaving me 69GB free space. I want to keep this area open.
My next drive is a 1TB WD Caviar Black segmented into 3 partitions.
E: Drive = Program FIles This has the majority and rest of my programs. It also includes USERs Files. I've use 96GB out of 150GB. Out of that 96GB, 64GB are in USERS files.
F: Drive = Data Files. This stores all of my data except for media. I've used 91GB out of 350. I want to leave this be.
G:| Drive = Medsia FIles This stores all Media = Vids, Music, Graphics, Pictures. I've used 80 GB out of 500GB
I also have a 64GB ~ 55GB actual storage SSD drive that is partitioned but has no data on it or assigned drive letter.
Here is what I want to accomplish. i want to move my actual Program FIles to the 64GB SSD, assign it a drive letter, and keep the USERS files where they now reside on the F: dirve
My main concern is that in moving all these files around and splitting the USERS files from the Program Files that I'll mees up my Registry. Will someone please suggest some links I might read that will best help me acheive these moves.
I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and having the same problem. You can easily resolve the "Hidden File" problem by right clicking on the file, select Properties, and remove the check box next to "Hidden". If you tagged all the photos in a folder, simply select all (ctrl-A) and do the same. It solved the hidden file problem for me without having to show all hidden files.The problem I'm running into that I can't fix is that even after doing this, Carbonite now recognizes these files as system files and refuses to back them up. Even if you try to manually force Carbonite to back them up, it immediately unselects the check box. Hopefully somebody knows of a solution. It's weird, because I was tagging photos just a few weeks ago, and didn't have any problems at all. I don't know if there was an update at some point that screwed this all up.
