Explorer Bar "Downloads" Link Under Favourites Does Not Work
Apr 19, 2012
One of our users on Windows 7 64-bit came to us recently with an issue trying to load their desktop from the "Desktop" link in the explorer bar under favourites. The link loaded and empty folder and the search bar started to progress across the top (green bar). It didn't load. Upon browsing to c:usersusernamedesktop they could view their desktop icons fine. Weird.
This has now happened to me today but with the "Downloads" link. I created a new shortcut on my desktop to test and that worked fine. It started working again after a short while but has stopped all together. If I do the same, browse to c:usersmyusernamedownloads it doens't work either! (but it did earlier) so now I can't get into my downloads folder at all through explorer. If I use CMD I can see the contents of this folder are still there.
As I'm writing this, I've just tried to go back to c:usersmyusernamedownloads and it did load eventually.
I am trying to import my old Favourites folder from Mozilla into Internet Explorer 9.The bookmarks are saved in a folder on a back-up drive. In Internet Exlporer I go to: FileImportExportImport from a file Favourites Browse. When I click onto the back-up folder I have called Favourites I cannot import its contents. The Folder has subfolders in it.I cannot seem to pull all these folders and their contents into IE9.Is there way to simply copy and paste the older folders into the IE9 Favourites folder. I can't find this folder in the new IE9 file structure.
Earlier today my husband wanted to sync his old ipod to our new computer. I also have my ipod synced to the same computer. When I was trying to figure out how to move songs from the ipod to the computer, I came across SharePod. I ran it on my computer and copied the files from the ipod to my computer just as the program had intended me to do. When I went back to itunes all my previous songs had (!) next to them and they couldn't be played because they could not be found.I went to try to open the folder all my music was in (Downloads, under Favorites) but this is what I see:I thought I needed to run the LNK fix but it didn't change anything, so now I have no clue what I did, what I'm doing, or what I need to do to get this back to normal so I can access my Downloads folder.
will the repair install fix system links that do not worK? cursor choices show up in Cursors file in Windows. Problem is after installing windows 7 Professional the link to the mouse pointers does not work and if you go to mouse properties they are not there just the mouse driver details. Any ideas on how to fix this?
I did the RC of windows 7 to see if I would like it...the mouse options was not available in the RC thought it would get fixed in final release. As instructed when received my upgrade after final release went back to Vista home premium, upgraded to 7 home premium (had to buy it, had ordered and recieved 7 pro) then upgraded to the 7 pro. still no mouse pointer options to change the pointer.
The pointers are in the Cursors folder in Window, but when I click on 'Change Mouse pointers' nothing happens. In the control panel when I click on the mouse icon nothing happens. I am using a usb mouse on my laptop but this feature does not work with the touchpad either. Worked just fine in vista, any suggestions
I Seem to be having trouble forwarding my ports, My router model is a D-Link DIR-615. (If needed by PC Specs are down below) When I go into my router and i forward the ports, the forwarding doesn't work, Here is what I know:
- Computer IP Is the correct IP that the port is being forwarded too - Windows Firewall is Off - Restarting the Router/Computer Multiple Times - The router says the ports are forwarded - I have forwarded the ports to a laptop of mine and that seemed to work - I tested the ports on this site Open Port Check Tool - Test Port Forwarding on Your Router - That site told me that the forwarding to my laptop worked, but not to my desktop
I have recently upgraded to windows 7 pro on a nice new 1TB hard drive. I have removed the previously installed win xp drive, and that is now in an external caddy. I have been in the process of moving the files from the xp drive to the Windows 7 drive. I forgot to backup my IE8 bookmarks before the switch over, and have tried to find the actual bookmark links via windows explorer but can't find them. I have tried looking in dos and setting users favourites...but the bookmarks are not in there.
I am having trouble just viewing the "Downloads" folder in Windows Explorer It used to just be a periodic thing, now it takes literally 2-5 minutes to load this folder! (I cannot even sort it while it is loading!)I noticed in Resource Monitor that "MsMpEng.exe" (Microsoft Security Essentials) is checking each and every file in there everytime I open it. (Hundreds of line-items in Resource Monitor.)So something must be flagging most of these files as changed or something so that MSE is going in and re-scanning everything. Here are some [perhaps ] pertinant notes about my Downloads Folder: It is very large, with almost 1,000 items. However, I want to keep it large as I have many apps running directly from the folder. (There are of course sub-folders for organization, but I find having a single download spot is good for catching things I may have already downloaded...) I have it mapped from C:Users[USERNAME]Downloads to D:...Downloads (My C: drive is an SSD so I keep this large amount of data off it.) I made sure to add this to the Windows Index. The "Date Accessed" date is updated to today for about 1/3 of the files (300 or so) even though I am only really accessing no more than 3-10 per day. It does not seem to matter what type of file it is (exe, zip, etc...) I added this to my "Favorites"; however, this happens regardless of if I access the folder via Favorites, [USERNAME]/Downloads, or d:...Downloads. I generally add stuff to that folder via Google Chrome. However, I could not catch the Chrome process doing anything weird or anything when downloading something.
I have installed a new larger hard drive into my computer and have reinstalled windows 7. This is the first time I have done this and did not realise that I needed to Export all my IE favourites. I simply copied the Favourites forder and all it's contents to a backup drive. Now I want to place all the Favourites back into IE. I can Import them from the folder one at a time but I have loads and it would take hours! Is there a way to get all my Favourites back into IE?
When I click into my IE8 Favorites, my HD folders are appearing there. I did some tests and if I try to delete them, my original HD files are deleted.
Maybe it happened when I tried do bring back my favorites from my backup files (ex Win XP), and I think that IE8 added all folders of my c: hard drive instead of only my favorites bookmarks.
So the other day I logged on to my computer to find all my downloads gone and not reach able and the folder has a huge error something like File osociated cant be found. I have system restored to the previous today and it didnt work What do I do?
What is the difference between dual link DVI and single link DVI cables? Would I see a noticeable difference if I switch to dual link cables? Would I benefit any at all from switching from single link to dual link?
I have downloaded and unzipped a set of C project files from a Google code repository into a folder on my PC so that I can study the code. I would like to use search so that I can find the files where particular variables are used.In windows explorer, I browse to the folder at the top of the tree, and then in the search box I type a variable name that I know exists in one of the files. Search always comes back with "No items match your search".
My windows explorer search does not work at all, it use to work and when ever i typed in a word it would start searching for that word right away(file names) now nothing happens when i want to search.
Just got this computer about two weeks ago. My old XP Pro finally crashed and burned. I miss that machine. Win 7 is crap as far as I am concerned. Problem - Windows Explorer absolutely does not work. I try to copy and paste between drives or even on the same drive. Program starts out great and gets down to near the end and reads 5 seconds remaining. That is the end of the copy and paste. Furthermore, it is an ordeal to shut the damn program off. Sometimes I even have to pull the plug on the machine (and yes I know that is not good). I thought for a bit that some throttling program was the culprit but I am getting nowhere.
sometimes on internet explorer in windows seven my back key (above on the left of internet explorer) doesn't work. I click on it but nothing happen like I do not click on it.
I'm copying and pasting my original post from SevenForums:I am certain that my Internet problems are resultant from a virus that I had downloaded. A friend and I determined that the virus was a Sirefef variation.Whenever I try to connect to any website in any browser aside from Internet Explorer x64 (Chrome, Firefox), the page will not load, and in Chrome, I get the following:This webpage is not availableThe webpage at <any url here> might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. Firefox does not give any error message, aside from stating that it cannot connect to the webpage.I have run: MBAM (found some things; removed), TDSSKiller (found nothing), Microsoft Security Scanner (found some things; removed), and SUPERAntiSpyware (found nothing). When attempting to update, MBAM displays this error: I have tried "netsh winsock reset" and a few variations, and none have worked. My firewall seems to be bugged, but I do not know how to fix it.
In XP when you open a folder and want to select the file at the top or bottom I usually press the Home or End key. When you do this in Windows7 it does not hi-lite the text, it just ghosts the selection.
I have built them formatted them, fixed them added components many many times...This is my issue, Internet explore won't open....well it opens and I get a ap crash notification. I take out both of my different videos cards and use internal video and it does not crash. The problem is this is my living room movie file player and the video cards make a huge difference....I also need explorer as well....now Chrome works but that is not what I want..
I was fixing a laptop that was having several issues, (special keys wouldn't work properly, internet explorer would crash, PDF files wouldn't open, etc) and I found a suspicious file (C:User<user>AppDataRoamingElofenmoma.exe) that was booting on startup. Virustotal hit me with only 3 results for a trojan, which is actually quite low, but this file was clearly the problem, the details seemed to be in russian and it's Regedit entry was random letters.
So I cleaned all evidence of this file and now the keyboard works properly, but I'm still having problems with executable. Most of the times when I open a program nothing shows up, yet the process is running, after opening it 3 or 4 times one window finally opens, but there's still 3 or 4 idle processes before it with no window in sight. Some times when I force close the first process all the other windows suddenly show up. I also noticed that the processes for setups, chrome, internet explorer tend to stay idle even after closing them normally (in the program itself, manually closing the process works).Usually I would just format the PC, but this is a very complicated PC to format, the owner has tons of certificates that he needs and most of them he doesn't even remember how to reinstall them again.
When I hover over a file that is supposed to have a preview option in Windows Explorer, the preview pane in explorer is blank. If I hover over a file that doesn't have a preview handler, it says "Preview not available". However the preview of images does work. Office files and PDFs won't display. I have checked all of the suggested folder options and they are set correctly. I have also found the preview handlers in the registry and they are all referenced there. I tried repairing Office and also did a sfc /scannow.
I use the latest version of firefox and use Dodo wireless broadband and I can never get beyond 98% of a download, it's very frustrating when certain programs have to be updated to even run. According to dodo's signal charts I should be in the best location for their signals and when I contact them they refuse to take any responsibility for it. I wasted countless gigs on downloads that just won't finish. Is there anything I can do to make the downloads finish? I've tried disabling my anti virus, firewalls, tried using IE8, NOTHING WORKS!
I am working on my daughter's Presario CQ 56-115DX Notebook running Windows 7. It has been running erratically and has a lot of junk on it and no anti virus. I have tried to install several free antivirus programs and also a Revo Uninstaller with both IE, Chrome and Firefox. All Downloads are blocked (or automatically "cancelled") including your TSG SysInfo. I turned off the Firewall but that didn't help. I also did a System Recovery back to 1-30-2013 to no avail.
whenever I try using IE9 to download something (so far just a 634mb mod for arma 2) it crashes after you do the "click here to download" , it correcly goes to filefront but then crashes before anything else happens.
Suddenly everything I try to download from sites like rapidshare, megaupload etc are interrupted on both INTERNET EXPLORER AND GOOGLE CHROME !! The downloads finish and then both browsers give an error saying The download is interrupted ! like this "123/123 KB Download interrupted" I deleted and installed Google Chrome yet still I can't download anything !!
