Easy Way To Install Updates And Restart Automatically?
Mar 25, 2012
I am reinstalling Windows rather often, but would like to do this without creating a slipstream DVD. Windows update has this tendency to wait a couple of hours before telling you that it has found an update. Is there a way to launch the updater agent on startup and then restart the computer thus installing the updates and running the agent again? I must say that installing updates is a pain where the sun doesn't shine since you need to watch it in order to reboot and launch the updater 6-7 times on a fresh install.
I would like Windows to automatically download and install its updates when I walk away from my machine for more than 5 minutes. How can this be set up?
I use Microsoft Security Essentials and I have the Update Settings set to install Requiremended updates but it's not installing Optional updates for this application, how can I get it to install optional updates?
I installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bits, I do all updates including sp1, and it appears one last update that is IE 9 but on optional. It seems that it install, when I restart pc windows is installing ok, but when it restarts it started installing and reverting changes with error. I already downloded the file and its is the same. I do reset updates and is the same.
I have Windows 7 Ultimate and I have my Windows Update settings set to "Download updates but let me choose whether to install them." The reason I use this setting is because even though I usually install the updates (because mostly they improve things), sometimes I'll see an update that I know I do not want to install. So I want to have control over which updates get installed. However, I ALWAYS want to install the latest "Definition Update For Microsoft Security Essentials", and since those updates are released very frequently, it's very annoying to always have to install them manually. Is there a way that I can have ONLY those definition updates installed automatically while still leaving it so that all other updates are not automatically installed?
Firstly I am sorry for posting the same old problem. I have read other forum posts on this subject and have tried some of the posted solutions. however whatever I try I cannot get to work.I did have it dual booting once, but I have restored my system since then, and now cannot get it to dual boot into XP.At start up it will dual boot into windows 7.
after transferring files from Samsung R530, 32-bit machine to HP Pavilion dv7, i5, 64-bit, using Windows Easy Transfer (both machines running Windows 7) via Belkin F5U279ea cable, all seemed normal
on restart, entered password recently created and used successfully, whereupon received 'incorrect password' message and am now locked out what can I do?
since it is new there are no data to be preserved, so happy to go back to how it was before I made the transfer, but would need to know to do this would also like to know what might have happened in the transfer process to nullify my password

I'm having an issue with updating my system. My computer installed some updates and wanted me to restart to fully update the system. When I turn the computer on now it shows it's updating (it never progresses past zero) and it doesn't finish the update. Now every single time I go to start my computer it constantly has to try and finish these updates. The computer will sit there for a good few minutes trying. I have no idea what the updates were.
I've just put my Dell Studio back to factory settings after having it for two years and deciding to give it a rebirth. I maintain my laptop very well but always like to do a reset every so often.
The problem I'm having now is that the damn thing wont update from Windows Update. It will identify that there are 76 important or critical downloads, but hangs at 0% downloading.
I went to the MS catalogue and tried to download manually, but even though I had the updates selected in my basket, again, it just hung on 0%.
I've ran Kasperskys TDS, the Malicious Tool Removal MS thingy-ma-jig, ran an sfc check where it did note there were corrupt files but it couldn't fix them. The Fix It link to the MS Update Not Working thing found no problems either.
Interestingly, I've just reset and it's telling me the system had to be restarted to finish installing updates, but when you click on it for more info, there's no updates listed.
I was using my laptop when all of a sudden the blue screen appeared and restarted automatically. And also additional info. My laptop's battery is broken for several years no so I used the adapter for power so I think that might have cause some problems with the way I used my laptop. I uploaded the files
In December I did std updates as received but then window does not start. It just stays forever at the Windows 7 welcome splash.
I have read about this problem on here before but it was a long time back and this is new.
I know it is because of the updates - Sys restore only works to an extent - fortunately I have a system image to restore it but I have to keep updates switched off which is not good.
A friend (yeah, right) has a new laptop & tech support said that rebooting/power cycle (turn machine "off", wait & power on) after updating "activates" the updates; while restarting only installs updates.
I have a windows 7 vista 64bit (or 62, not sure) and for a while now I have been have the same problem... first of all, windows updates keep on failing! practically all of them. After the update, it requires me to restart the computer because some of the updates can not be completed while the system is running. As it reboots, it goes to screen where the resolution is really zoomed in, and it says the computer did not start up properly (start up repair).
This happens every time it makes me restart or when I shut it down. (So I just leave it on sleep, but that never works cuz there's an automated windows update restart timer). Also heard that I needed an anti virus program so I got one. VIPRE - The first attempt. Windows update. Restarts. Start up repair. Then VIPRE is completely gone from my computer. (Not just vipre but some other programs as well). Microsoft security essentials, the second attempt. Same thing happens. its completely gone. As if I never had it.
My laptop is windows 7 pro. After downloading some updates, it tried to install them. The machine tries to reboot. It gets to 35% and then says failure configuring updates, reverting changes and the shuts down to restart. This cycle continues endlessly.
My computer graphics card seams to be rolling back its driver updates automatically.i have a radeon 5770, and the only update tht sticks is 8.851.0.0, the newest update driver for my graphics card is 8.902.0.0, why does it always roll back whn i turn my computer on?
Windows Updates continues to re-install five specific updates which are:*Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2604121) -Download size: 38.5 MB.*Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2656368) -Download size: 1.8 MB.*Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2656405) -Download size: 11.7 MB.*Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2686827) -Download size: 4.3 MB.*Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2600217) -Download size: 32.2 MB.- I purchased my computer 4 to 5 months ago. I just got a new computer, and was on the process of transferring my files from my old computer using Windows Easy Transfer. It was taking a while so I left it on overnight. When I checked on it again, it had reboot to install windows updates. Now, I've got a folder in my Users section that apparently weights 0 bytes, but that is taking up easily 100 GB, which I also cannot access; for trying to do so leaves me with the same explorer window, and unable to return using the address bar or the back arrow. Is there anything I can do about it?
If you just want the solution page down .. it's in this blue
New shiny windows 7 disk arrives. ...... doesn't want to install ...
keep getting error message 0x80070570 when Windows 7 is expanding files:
Quote: Windows cannot install required files error 0x80070570
The file may be corrupt or missing.. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart installation. Spend an hour googling .. people suggest RAM problems .. I know my RAM is good but spend an hour or two running MEMTEST ...
Then I see a lot of people reduced to trying to install from a USB key .... great .... borrow my neighbours 4GB Cruzer, follow instructions, ... and bork it in the process of not installing the OS.
So eventually I call Microsoft and speak to a very nice lady in India who runs me through a dozen or so workarounds for this .. I'm pressing control +F keys left, right and centre, taking out RAM sticks, disabling EVERYTHING in BIOS.
Always the same thing:
Quote: Windows cannot install required files error 0x80070570
The file may be corrupt or missing.. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart installation. So after maybe two hours on the phone with her she decided to report the issue to the second line team. I'm told they will call me back today as they don't work weekends (all this took place Friday up til now).
EASY SOLUTION:
I don't wait weekends for answers (nor do I usually need to call tech support). One thing we had noticed is that the repair console refused to lauch because it said there was an install in progress. But the support didn't pick up on this and it wasn't until Saturday morning I tried what turned out to be the easiest solution ever.
When you see the error "0x80070570 can't access files" on install click --> Cancel ---> you will be returned to the "Install Now" startup screen and - WITHOUT REBOOTING - just re-start the install.
Second time round it went smooth as clockwork and installed fine. I have not tried to reproduce this error as I just want a working system:
Be interested to know if this easy solution works for anyone else. I informed Microsoft of it when their engineer called today and they are going to look into it. They are aware of the install issue but never heard of this fix before.
When I turn on my computer the"Windows could not check for updates automatically" message has been appearing for about six weeks It also says click here to check for updates now.I click and the message tells me to restart to install most recent updates. It lists my most recent updates as 11/14/12.Yet when I check for my Windows Update History, all my updates are current thru today's date. Why does this message always appear about Windows failing to update automatically, yet when I look at my updates they are all current?
I am part of a large organization that has a large amount of computers on our domain controller. I have Administrative rights to the computers only, and network access rights on our network. I keep a number of computers up to date, including various 3rd-party programs (i.e. java, flash, etc), and I currently manually remotely connect to each computer and install the updates to the programs from a network share, then run Windows update, select all the critical updates (as well as all the applicable optional updates), then disconnect and move on to the next one. Needless to say, time quickly adds up.
For the past day windows wants to install the same 4 updates over and over, I have windows update set to download and let me choose when to install.
I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again. How do I stop this?
