Is this possible? I do not have a windows 7 cd, is this necessary? What version of Snow leopard do I need, and what other programs? If you know of a good tutorial, please post it! I'm new to partitions and bios and stuff.
View 3 RepliesFor my studies in Brussels, they all use mac os x. I have a compaq laptop with an upgrade from vista on it (so now Windows 7 ultimate). I do not want to buy a new macintosh laptop because i do not want to ruin my savers (like 900 euro's)... So I bought my self a upgrade DVD (20 euro's) to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Is there any way I can just install that thing WITHOUT deleting my windows 7 (it has a lot of giveawayoftheday programs installed wich I use daily) so I do not want to lose them... and then set up a dual boot so I can just hit mac or windows? My laptop is complex and I do not know a lot about computers...
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to dual boot windows 7 and snow leopard. The problem that I am getting is, that when I try to boot into Mac it says kernel panic or something like that and tells me I need to restart my computer. I keep restarting it and keep on getting the same thing. I'll start from the beginning on how I started off. First I put in snow leopard cd then when the installer loaded i went into utilities, then disk utilities. I then split my hard drive into two partitions. First one I named Snow Leopard the second windows 7. Then after it erased everything and partitioned I installed snow leapord on partition 1 then windows 7 on partition 2. When I put in the Iboot CD and chose Mac it gave me the problem that I mentioned above. So right now I'm on the second partition the one named Windows 7.

I have a ASUS G72 with Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53 GHz.I have one HDD and 4 partitions in it(c is windows 7 home premium x64, d is windows 7 ultimate x64, e is empty and i am planning to install snow leopard on e and f is just my important files.).my dvd writer seems to be only compatible with dvd + r dl.i have a 8 gb microsd (SD) card.as i said, i want to install snow leopard on e: and i want to have triple boot (windows 7 home premium x64, windows 7 ultimate x64 and snow leopard).simply, just with a windows pc (notebook that is), how can i install snow leopard by the 8 gb SD or by dvd + r dl and how can i make a triple boot?
Note: Snow Leopard Installation DVD is 6 GB so it requires a DL DVD if being installed from DVD, the thing is -for some reason- people are advising DVD - R DL.
So I'm a computer engineering student and I would love to be able to dual-boot Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) on my Dell computer. However, I'm worried things will go terribly wrong and I'll end up screwing my computer up. I'm no expert (yet) when it comes to installation of OS's, partitioning, etc., but I'm pretty sure I could figure most of it out... if I had a guide.
Does anyone have/has anyone made a step-by-step Windows 7/OS X dual-boot procedure that is relatively simple to understand?
* As a note: I will be installing Windows 7 from a CD in about a week when I delete my Vista partition (after backing up all of my files). I'm assuming I would have to order Snow Leopard (a single use license) in order to install it!

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy installation was FAILED!!! i have windows xp 32 bit pre-installed (in C drive), I was trying to install DUAL BOOT xp with Windows 7 (in D drive NTFS) using ISO image file of Windows 7 64bit ultimate (present in my HHD), i mounted the ISO file of windows 7.The installation started normally but in the FINAL step (Finalizing installation) when system restarts to perform configuration etc, but instead of that i got message "Failed to install windows and rolling back changes".mportant NOTE: Using virtual dvd rom, i mounted and install Windows 7 "32 bit" all right!!! the new hdd is detected but the os is not detected in the boot loader.
I decided to Dual boot Hackintosh (iDeneb) and Windows 7 on my HP laptop. I got OS X up and running and I can't seem to repair my Windows 7. The installation disk can't find and fix the problem automatically, so I went to Command line prompt and when I type it Bootrec.exe/scanOS is says that it can't find any installed windows on the disks. I am 100% sure I did not over write my windows partition with the OS X and honestly, I have no idea how to get Windows running again without having to install from scratch.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst, the information as it is. I had a hard drive issue that I'm working on currently, trying to recover I suppose what is a crashed hard drive. There are tons of errors on it, but that's not the question I have right at the moment, but some background.
I have tried to reinstall Windows on a brand new 2.5" Seagate 500GB 7200rpm HDD. I formatted the drive using the windows 7 ultimate installer and booted it using a USB booter made from the windows 7 download tool.
When I booted it up and tried to get it going, it gave me a hardware error saying "Windows wasn't able to configure the hardware and try startup repair" or something to that effect. I read around and it said that since my BIOS says the HD is in raid configuration that it needed some Intel Raid driver, which I installed and tried running, but it didn't seem to work. It says now "windows cannot repair this computer automatically". The problem signature is as follows:

I was thinking to image Win 7 on my Sony to a cd; so that I have a clean disk. How can I then clone my XP ide drive onto the new laptop drive - which is an Hitachi ATA (mSata?) - so that I will have a dual boot system? Although if the XP works fine, that is what I will use.
I do a sysprep 1st, then use Bart PE. However I believe Bart PE only goes to XP SP3, and I only have the whole drive - with all my docs on it. No installation disk.
Do I need to do a "sysprep"? Is it possible to "slipstream" a whole drive with all the necessary drivers? Will it be an issue if the XP is 32 bit, and my new machine is 64bit?
i have a new work laptop with xp sp3 on it. I want to install w7 64 bit as a dual boot, but only have 1 physical drive. i cannot remove my current installation as it is pre-build from work, but can partition the drive etc. However on trying to install w7 64 bit I get a message saying cannot install windows 7 on efi drive with mbr, not gpt. Can I do what I want without screwing up my xp installation?
View 5 Replies View Relateddual booting windows 7 home premium x64 with linux fedora 14 on dual independantly dedicated drives. i am a college student with moderate computer (windows) knowledge but am doing software development and would like to play around with some linux for a class. i have no prior experience with linux and have minimal knowledge of operation. i am currently running windows 7 and would like to keep it as my primary os. i do not wish to share media files across drives or os's, windows does that just fine as is and i dont want to get into a third drive. my current drive is a 1tb wd black caviar hdd. it is also currently 2/3rds full and the desktop is about 6 months old so i would rather not partition the drive for a dual boot. i would think that there are some other advantages for the os's operating independantly off their own drives other than if one hdd dies i should still have the other with its os still ok. i have read some topics about RAID configs with dual boot setups with dual drives like this but am not very familiar with RAID. is there a RAID config that would be beneficial in this situation? i currently do not have a RAID card. my tower internals are not very accessible and i dont like the idea of disconnecting drives depending on which os i want to operate.

View 6 Replies View RelatedAs currently configured, XP is on drive C:, Win 7 was added to drive E:, and the system is currently run as a dual boot. Attempting to boot without the XP drive present will yield a "NTLDR is missing" error very early in the boot process.
I have already tried the following:
(1) I moved the hidden Windows Boot Manager files (bootmgr as well as the associated Boot folder) from the XP drive root to the Win 7 drive root.
(2) After physically removing the XP drive, I rebooted to the Win 7 installation DVD, and used the "Repair Your Computer" option to pull up the "Recovery Tools". Then, using the command prompt utility, ...
(3) I attempted to write a new boot sector to the Windows 7 disk using the command: Bootrec /fixboot, - that yields an error though. The Bootrec /fixmbr claimed success, but ultimately did not make Win 7 drive bootable.
I had to reconnect drive C: just to boot into Win 7 again to write this. I do have files backed up, but to format and reinstall files would take many hours beyond just the time to transfer 400 GB of data, since I have dozens of purchased applications that need to be freshly reinstalled and validated as well. Basically I want my E: drive now to be my boot drive while the C: drive is reformatted and used for general storage.
Any idea how to make my Win 7 drive bootable? Do I need a partition program that is more adept at creating a viable boot sector, or is that even the problem?

I allocated some free space from my C drive for the XP install. I installed XP, but when I restarted my computer, I got this error, "A disk read error has occurred; press Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart dual boot".
What am I doing wrong?
