I used Gparted to shrink the windows partition and create other partitions for a dual boot. Windows seems to be find except that disk manager does not reflect the changes, and defragmenter will not work at all?

I set up my main hard drive with Windows 7 on one partition, Linux on another partition, and a third partition for storage. I recently needed more space for Windows, and no longer needed Linux, so using the Windows 7 disk manager I deleted the Linux partition and extended the Win partition using the newly unallocated space.
Upon restarting my machine, I am no longer able to boot into windows but instead am presented with the message:

View 4 Replies View RelatedOne of the hard disks suddenly failed to initialized. The first problem I found on this disk was unable to open one of the zip files then the machine crashed. After I restarted the machine the HDD drive was missing from the Computer. My computer has 6 hard drives including the missing one. One is Corsair SSD for the OS and the rest are Samsung, Hitachi and WD all of them are 1TB. When I checked on the Device Manager the Drive is there and the device status is properly working. I checked on the Disk Management and I got a message to Initialize the Disk then I followed the instruction. Again I got an error message " Virtual Disk Manager - The system cannot find the file specified." On the Disk Management windows the status of the Disk is "Unknown 931.51GB Not Initialized- Unallocated". I tried to initialize but the same error I got. I did not name this drive but it named automatically RV 01 and the Location is 0.I use Acronis Disk Director to fix the problem but it cannot change the status to online. What I did last week was I installed some programs to the Drive X instead of Drive C.My computer OS is Windows 7 64bits all the drivers and software are updated.

I then formatted the free space into a new drive by right clicking and creating new simple volume. I was warned that the drive would be made "simple", but not knowing the implications, I went ahead with the procedure. Now on rebooting, windows won't load. I had made a repair disc, so was able to use it to check for any start up errors. It reported none. Moreover I used "diskpart" through cmd to find volume c: is dynamic.

Everything that I have read says that you should just be able to copy the font to C:windowsfonts and then add the appropriate value to the registry at HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionFonts. My batch file does both of these things, however the fonts still do not show up in the font manager (or applications). They do show up if I browse to the fonts folder using cmd so I know they are where they should be. Is there something that I am missing here? These fonts need to be installed on every computer at my company so manually installing them isn't really an option.

evertyime i load windows the boot manager pops up showing 6 different windows installations. I have been troublshooting of late so have been installing/reinstalling windows. The thing is, i have formated each prior installation before installing a new one yet boot manager keeps popping up during OS loading showing me several different options. All of them except for the most recent have no data showing the formating worked. How do i prevent boot manager from showing all these old installations?

So I tried LAN line as well, which didn't work either. I went through few sites, they all told me to go on device manager and update my drives. View 9 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 Premium 64 bit's Task Manager used to show a bar with pplications/Processes etc., with lists below making it possible to "end-now" some apps and stop some processes at least for a while to save on CPU/Memory usage. There was also provision by a menu bar at the top of Task Manager window to shut down pc etc., from within the task manager.Presently my Windows 7 Premium 64 bit's Task Manager shows only what looks like a list of processes (Not Applications) topped by a head-bar having Name/PID/Description/Status/Group and a selectable button at the bottom right for Services.(I could have uploaded ascreen if this Ask Your Question Form had provided for attachments!).I suspect this change in Task Manager came after some new installs - Windows Updates etc.

For instance my mouse in the Device Manager window has a code 10 and will not work until I use the trouble shooter and it re-installs the driver. View 5 Replies View RelatedHeI am at wits end here trying to figure out how to fix this pc. A friend came to me with the Acer Aspire One D255E with a wireless internet issue. The PC is Running Windows 7 Starter 32-bit. I immediately thought "well there must be a switch that she turned off" There is no switch on the computer for the wireless card. I thought "well there must be a driver issue, Ill go to the device manager and update the driver for it". Then when I got to the device manager... Nothing shows up for a wireless lan card even existing in the laptop, but I know it does, because A) It's a "net Book" B) she was using the internet last week. So, I thought maybe it's not showing up because thee computer needs the drivers for it first, which is unusual, but since its windows 7 starter I thought it needed a kick in the rear to get it goin. So i downloaded all the drivers for the PC using a different computer, and installed the different drivers to see which one would work. Well none of them worked, and now im sitting here scratching my head on what to do next. I have scoured the web and seen a few other people with issues like this.

I tried several operations on 7x64 and it worked very well. It is also very small and fast. No boot disc included, but it does put itself into it's own " boot ime " mode when needed.
The only thing I notice that might confuse newbies is they describe System and Boot the opposite way to MS.
I don't know why this is happening. But all the files in my C partition(including WINDOWS files) take up only about 16.0 GB of space.But for some reason, it shows that 20GB Space is being used. So where did my 4GB Go?

The other day i was just playing around with Disk Management and unintentionally right clicked on one of my drives and clicked "Rescan". The Disk Management did something for a while and then my PC restarted and that particular drive disappeared in my computer. Although I'm able to see the partition in Disk management but not in the list of volumes but in the bottom view of my disk. That partition does not have a Drive letter, I've tired to change the drive letter but it says "the disk management view is not up to date" I've tried some partition Manager software to assign a letter to my drive but all in vain. I've also found a solution to the error "the disk management view is not up to date" by updating my windows but that too didnt work for me. I've very important data on that drive and i really want it back. Tried every single thing googling around and used DiskPart in MS Dos also, nothing worked.

I waited 30 minutes but it didn't responded than i closed it forcibly and When i restarted the system That partition got vanished from my computer and was converted into raw part... It got my engineering projects and my freelance projects i used to do for $$ .. Almost 250$ is at ledge.. And my school projects aswell.. But those things matter to me.. recover all DADA Possible.. I took my sister's 150GB HD and set her up with a dual boot with Windows 7 and XP. She now wants me to take Windows 7 off and just use XP for a while. If I use a 3rd party partitioning tool to remove the Windows 7 partition FROM WITHIN XP, will this screw up the boot manager? I think it should be fine. Just take out the partition and extend the XP partition into the free space and it should just boot to XP. Is this correct?

I've got a problem that popped up the other night when I decided I wanted to restore my system to a previous time due to a BSOD I received and had a feeling it was due to CCleaner.
Regardless, I'm now unable to see my E: drive, as shown in the screenshot, on the left side of Explorer under Computer. It shows up fine in the main window there but not on the side. I can't even rename it, I had it named previously.
Any ideas?
As some of you may know i encountered the infamous "BOOTMGR MISSING" error which i could find no fix for and decided to do a fresh install of the OS.
Now at the Windows 7 Installation i selected the language and then selected Custom install and get a page asking which hard drive partition i would like to install the OS on. Now here is where somethings wrong. The only thing listed is the 100mb System reserved partition. How do i get the other partitions listed.
