I would like to know on my new build 120 SSD and a 3T HHD so that I can install my games with most of the files are on the HHD and the games startup with the 120 SSD with the OS installed on it?
My husband's netbook is having issues with Windows Update. It started out okay, but got stuck at 30%. We tried rebooting, but it didn't help. Currently, he can get to the login screen but then the computer just says 'please wait' and sits on a black screen. I've tried using system restore, but for some reason it was turned off and it has no former state to go back to. I've tried chkdsk but that didn't help. I've tried startup repair but it said it didn't find anything wrong. Eventually, I tried letting the computer sit for a while with the black screen to see what would happen and a message popped up that said that the copy of windows wasn't genuine.
Got a new home build Core I5 3rd gen at 4.4GB 8gb RAM, 120 SSD with the OS, 2GB HDD for anything else, ATI 7970. Win 7 home 64 bit. When I play games, I can play for a while, then I get Game name has stopped working, or a BSOD?
My current system was upgraded to windows 7 32bit from vista 32bit (I bought the windows 7 home premium upgrade disc when it was first released). I am going to build a complete new system. Can I install windows 7 64bit from the same windows 7 disc? Or do I have to buy a new windows 7 disc? Is there a way around buying a whole new disc?
I am currently running OS 7 Beta RC Build 7100. Were do I get this newer version, is there a big difference? And am I able to upgrade to the newer Beta?
I realize that October is fast approaching for the RTM but I plan to keep running the Beta for a couple of months past the Grand Opening.
Is it possible that all the updates that I have received equally add up to the newer build?
My disk crashed and had to reload everything, I took it to Toshiba service center. Before the crush my hard disk was just one big physical disk now I have: C: physical 150.84 GB(boot, page file, crush dump, primary partition)If so can you please tell me how to do it, never done this before, partitioning, and I don't want to make a mess out of it.
Any good guide or book I can read for SSD's. I wanna learn which one to choose, how to install. Wanna use it as a primary drive for the OS, and have a secondary drive. How to setup my OS and computer to do that.
I have two primary partitions and I want to delete one of the and completly expand the other. When i get in my computer/manage/disk management if i right click a partition it won`t let me le delete it or expand it. How can I have A SINGLE hard drive completly expanded ?
I want to format my D: drive to clear some space. Thing is my D: used to be my C: drive under XP when i was dual booting so its showing as an active primary partition and Windows 7 wont let me format it.
Ive tried deleting everything but some things are refusing to go (like the file boot which i assume is to do with dual booting).
Running out of space and I'd like to extend my primary (C) partition to the next drive (D) but in computer management D is listed as "Page file, Logical drive" and it will not allow me to delete it.
Would moving page file from D to E partition allow me to extend C into D? If so, how do I move page file in Windows 7 to another partition?
If I can't do this in Windows natively does someone have a suggestion on 3rd party software?
I start Windows after the machine being off for a while, maybe a day or two, the primary monitor setting changes to my secondary display. As I do actually have two monitors on the video desk, it is fairly easy (for me) to change the setting to what it needs to be. But I am not the only operator that uses this computer, and most of the volunteers know little when it comes to computers of any kind. Now you would think that someone with my technical background would have been able to fix this issue, and I can...using a 3rd party solution that costs money.
edit: to clarify, I have been having this issue for few years, but I have been the only person using the system. And this was happening on previous systems as well
Specs of the system in question: Custom Built Desktop; Windows 7 Professional x64;
kay I am trying to make bootable USB so I can reinstall my Windows 7, but when I get to the step to create partition primary, it tells me there is insufficient space to do so. What's up with that? I really need to get my laptop back working before the 14th, because I am going up to my grandparents' house for the summer and would like to bring my laptop with me. I also don't want them to find out I broke it so...heh.Also, I've tried burning the ISO to a 4GB DVD disk with ImgBurn but every disk I do gives me an error, and I only have 3 DVDs left and I don't want to try again because I don't want to waste them. I actually just went out to buy this USB so I'm really upset that I'm having issues with it
At the end of each semester, I typically restore my primary laptop (Asus G1S) to the factory default settings. I realize that this isn't technically necessary, but there's something psychologically pleasing about a freshly installed operating system. It's somewhat like returning to a hotel room in the afternoon after the maid has tidied up. The bed is made, the bathroom is stocked with clean towels, and the free water bottles have been replenished.
I'm currently downloading the Windows Seven installation files, and have been reading through various guides. Many writers recommend partitioning one's hard drive to permit a dual boot. However, since I've just restored my system completely, I would rather just turn the entire thing over to Windows 7 without any Vista remnants clogging up the machine. If things go south, I can always unpack the restore disks and revert to the factory default state.
Is this advisable and possible? Can I completely wipe out Windows Vista and turn my machine entirely over to Windows 7?
I recently got a copy of Warhammer Dawn of War II. The game seems to be consulting" dxdiag.exe when I adjust the graphics detail of the game. Here is the problem, dxdiag when launched insists on displaying my secondary Intel GPU. My laptop has switchable graphics, but even if I force the usage of the primary Nvidia GPU (GT540M) through the Nvidia control panel it still detects the Intel one.
I just got my laptop back from Acer and they had given me a new hard drive. I restored a disk image backup that I had made from Acronis True Image. The backup seemed a little strange going in, but none the less it worked anyway. I then went to Disk Management to look at the setup and noticed that my primary partition is now listed as a Logical. I'm posting a screen shot of the partions and someone tell me if that looks right to them and if not how do I get my C drive back to Primary. As I said it boots ok but when I did the recovery with Acronis it didn't seem to go as smoothly as it should have.
I'm trying to shrink my primary Windows partition because I want to create a partition to install Linux Mint on. Well, when I go into the Windows Disk Manager and try to shrink the partition, it doesn't let me shrink it more than 32MB. I need quite a bit more space than that.I've disabled System Restore, Hibernation, and the page file. After defragging, I had 200MB of space available to shrink with. That's not much of a step up.I also want to try to avoid third-party applications unless they're basically guaranteed to work. I've heard some horror stories about third-party partitioners completely ruining systems.
Just loaded Windows 7 pro and moved my contacts from OE to WLM. When I tried to send an email to a bunch of patients noticed that program did not only use the primary email address, but used all addresses of each patient. Is there a way of tell WLM to only use primary email addresses like OE does?Or it there a way to showing only primary addresses in the contact list that comes up when searching for a group of patients?
I just finished upgrading my CPU, ram, and mobo, and everything went off without a hitch. Except that now rage won't play on my default monitor. Other than the hardware, nothing has changed with the setup. All my other steam games play on the default monitor but Rage. I'm at a loss here. As windows sees them, monitor #1 is my secondary monitor and #2 is my primary. For a video card I have an XFX 6870 Black edition. I updated my drivers and Catalyst Control center to the latest versions, after experiencing crash issues with rage, so my drivers are all current.
So, I want to have Windows 7 Home Premium 86x and 64x versions installed on my PC with dualboot. I have 86x version of Windows 7 installed already. So, for 64x version, I have to create a new partition. The problem is, I already have 4 primary partitions, so I can't create a new one (I read somewhere that Windows have to be installed on a primary partition). Here is the picture: (Don't mind disk 2, it's just the external drive).
If I try to create a partition on "Unallocated", Acronis Disk says this:
My question is, which of these partitions on disk 1 can I safely convert to logical? If I am wrong here and I still won't be able to create a new primary partition for Windows to be installed on. I'm really not so good at this things.
back to make my main partition (C: ) where I installed windows only 50gb big. What I wonder is, is it possible to decrease the second partition in size and move that extra size to the main partition without damaging data on both partitions?
Of course, it is easy to get a print screen of my primary monitor, but how do I get one on my secondary? Simply clicking on it's background doesn't work.
my pc operating system is installed in c drive which is 25 gb in size, and d drive is 50 gb.is it possible to shrink 5 gb space of d drive and add it to c drive?
Here's the scenario: I have a 1TB disk with several partitions on it.
#1: Primary partition with Vista on it.
#2: A 500GB primary partition used as storage/backup.
#3: A 50GB partition encrypted with Truecrypt, Logical drive
Now, I want to create a new Primary partition at the end of the drive, so I can install another copy of Windows 7. Notice my 500GB storage partition does not need to be Primary, but it is, and I cannot create any more Primary partitions. How can I change the storage partition to a logical drive, and have my new partition be Primary?
I'm using a Sager 3790 notebook with 2 GB of memory, a Centrino 1.7 Ghz and a Mobility Radeon 9700.Installation went perfectly. The card was detected by Windows Update and drivers were isntalled for it. They're from December 2008. Okay, that's fine and dandy. As soon as the drivers install the highest resolution available on the primary display is 640x480. Why? Because Windows won't/can't detect my primary monitor. It shows up as an "Unknown display device."I can attach an external monitor and adjust its resolution all day. I can also remote into the laptop and that works fine.I am nearly 100% confident that I cannot change the display resolution because the monitor won't detect correctly. I can't manually force an install of a monitor or change the "Unknown display device" driver because that section is grayed out in the "Advanced Settings" under the Display Resolution tab.
I plugged in my old IDE hard drive and had it set up as a slave and when I try booting up I get to the Windows splash screen and I hear my primary drive click and then the activity light stays solid and it won't boot. I tried a couple times and it wouldn't work so I unplugged the secondary drive and it booted right up
I have two other hard drives in my computer. My operating system now is on "E" drive. I'm wanting to replace my "E" drive with a larger and faster drive.
I am currently backing up my entire "E" drive on my "C" drive.
Is it possible to simply pull out my current "E" drive and install a new "E" drive and then restore my backup to my new "E" drive? Or is it more complicated than that?
I noticed this problem when I tried to delete something off the drive, then I tried to run an antivirus scan and it gave me an error if incapacity to delete viruses due to a dirty disk and that I should run chkdsk. So I right clock on the drive and attempt check now. It tells me that it must first dismount the drive before it can do so and asks if I would like to force a dismount. To which I respond yes. Then, the window disappears and I hear no word or see no signs of any chkdsk happening. Naturally I reboot the terminal expecting fire-works and chemistry, but get greeted by the sound of windows starting up again.I have tried the administrator driven command prompt in this sequence. C:WindowsSystem32>chkdsk x:/f
response: The type of file system is exFAT. Volume Serial Number is 2C7E-22C5 C:WindowsSystem32> then: C:WindowsSystem32>chkdsk x:/r response: The type of the file system is exFAT.
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Chkdsk May run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? <Y/N> response:
Volume dismounted. ALL opened handles to this volume are now invalid. Volume Serial Number is 2C7E-22C5 C:WindowsSystem32> then: C:WindowsSystem32>chkdsk x:/r
