Jan 21, 2013

my brand new Asus ultrabook was installing updates, got to 30-40% and the screen turned off. I waited for about 30-40 mins but nothing changed so i turned it off from the button. Tried holding it down several times, and turning it back on and off but nothing changed. I can hear it loads windows and i have blindly managed to type my password and i've even heard skype load so it must be working properlu besides the dark monitor.

Laptop Won't Shut Off - It's Been Installing Updates For 14 Hours

Nov 22, 2012

My HP laptop has been in shutdown mode all day. This morning I downloaded updates for my HP laptop, and I assume that while I was downloading HP updates, it also downloaded Windows 7 updates. After MY downloads finished I initiated shut down, but it had 18 updates to install. It has been stuck on update # 7 since 10 AM this morning.

I just bought this laptop this fall. I hadn't used it for almost a month, and meant to take it with me to school today, but I had to leave it at home while it shut down. Now I'm wondering if I should interrupt the process since it's been 14 hours since it started this and it still says installing update 7.

I'm worried that if I shut it off manually it will corrupt the bios

Switch User Accounts The Computer Will Start The Switch And Then Lock Up With A Display Message?

Aug 10, 2011

Whenever I switch user accounts the computer will start the switch and then lock up with a display message that says no signal on the monitor. It happens if the computer has been running for hours or only a couple of minutes. I have to shut the PC off and leave it off for 20-30 minutes. I can then restart and enter any user account. But if I try to switch user or logoff and pick a different user the whole cycle begins anew.

Every time I shut down my laptop, there would always be the notice "installing update 1 of 1". This has been happening for a while and I'm wondering what's going on.

In addition, many random files have been created in the Local C drive as shown: Corrupted Image removed - please re- upload

I don't know if I should just delete them but anyway, I chose not to just in case.

CPU Load Stays At 15 Percent After Windows Updates - Constant Disk Activity

May 5, 2012

Just got a brand new Samsung Series 7 laptop and everything was working fine until i started installing windows updates. The cpu is now stuck at around 15% load and there's constant disk activity too. I run msconfig.exe and disabled programs that I don't really use much, run disk defrag just too make sure the disk was working well. As a result my cpu is running hot (65 degrees) and the battery drains pretty quick.

Increasing Updates When Switch On Laptop?

Feb 22, 2012

My laptop has increasing updates when I switch it on. It started at update 1 of 1 and is now at update 1 of 66. Which means it can take forever to start. I don't understand why this is increasing all the time? And I can't find any similar queries on any support sites? Is it possible this is a virus? I have AVG free anti-virus software and the computer scan is coming out clear. Even in Safe mode.

Event Log Message After Shut Down

Feb 22, 2009

Copy of error log at time Windows 7 shut down and tried to restart. At the time this happened the system was operating collecting weather data from my weather station and automatically sending it to weatherunderground. I was reading a book at the time this happened. This message seems to deal with booting problems and not what caused Windows 7 to close and try to restart.

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 X64 Shut Down Not Turn Off After Updates

May 20, 2012

I recently installed GTX670 SLI in my machine and run some benchmarks to test it is all working.

Afterwards, I did a clean format complete re-install with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 with updates. It appears now when I shut down my machine, windows turns off the display and seems to shut down but does NOT turn off the fans/LEDs on my computer.

I then re-installed a clean windows 7, installed my drivers ONLY (no windows updates) and it shuts down/turns the computer off fine.

Windows Shut Down Unexpectedly Message

Feb 5, 2013

This morning I noticed there was an error in Event Viewer and Reliability History that implied that Windows had shut down unexpectedly. However, there is no evidence of that. Here's the message from Event Viewer...

Log Name: Application
Source: Windows Error Reporting
Date: 2/5/2013 7:50:56 AM

[Code]....

And on Reliability History, it just said Windows shut down unexpectedly. But like I said, there's no evidence of that.

Windows Update - Installs Same Updates On Shut Down - 0% Stuck

Sep 6, 2012

Ok over the past week or so windows has been installing the same 3 updates every night! Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit

So I checked to see if they failed and they were installed successfully!

I have ran 3 different MS Fixit things to no avail. I have tried to update the PC manually however it does not go past 0% on installing the updates it just says preparing updates.

I tried adding 2 optional updates to make it 5 and manually clicking update however it sticks on 0% downloading updates.

I am usually pretty good at troubleshooting and fixing PC problems however this one I am defeated! I do not want to restore if possible, will this take away ANY of my files e.g work I have done I have never had to do it before!

Windows 7 Home: Stop Automatic Installation Of Updates On Shut Down?

May 22, 2012

Windows XP used to give you the option to shut down your PC without installing Windows updates or to choose to shut it down and install updates, but this feature seems to be missing in Windows 7.One of my PC's runs Windows 7 Professional and it also comes with the Group policy Editor (gpdeit.msc) that can be used to tweak the registry so that you get the option to shut down with/without installing updates. It is fairly straightforward to do.However another of my PC's runs Windows 7 Home and it does not come with gpedit.msc.I downloaded the Group Policy Settings References for Windows 7 and Windows Server Excel file (Download: Group Policy Settings Reference for Windows and Windows Server - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details), and scrolled down to the Windows Updates lines at the end of the Administrative Templates tab; but I was unable to find the registry references in my registry. Specifically in order to enable "Do Not Adjust Default Option to Install Updates and Shut Down", I could not find the registry entries listed in the spreadsheet under either the HKCU or HKLM portions of my registry.

I had to have Windows 7 reinstalled on my computer by someone at a local charitable company but I've noticed little weird things that didn't happen when I had my original version.Internet sessions closing suddenly and cursor skipping around the page eventhough I updated my touchpad drivers.

Can't Do Upgrade To Fix Updates Not Installing?

Apr 17, 2012

I've a customer who simply cannot install all updates. In in the end, he decided to try the upgrade route in an attempt to fix the updates not installing. He got hold of an ISO (without SP1) and started the process. At about 70% completion (I believe the OS components have successfully been installed) it stops. The error message states something about lack of disk space to install the applications (????).There's plenty of disk space of coursePrevious to the upgrade try, we've run various MS FixIt tools, SFC, disk check, disabling A/V, checking for malware, etc. Commonly, upon unsuccessful updates, the error codes are either 8007371b or 80073712.

Downloading And Installing All Updates At Once

Oct 12, 2012

I have now taken over the formatting of laptops at my work place. We buy and sell second hand laptops, so want to erase all data before we sell them. Everything is fine, but the updates take forever, and need you to be around to continually restart the computer numerous times. I downloaded WUD and downloaded every update at once, but still found that they could not all be installed at once (Unless I did something wrong), So I was wondering if there is some way you can install all the windows updates at once, as that would save me so much time, as some of the updates take forever to install, making the whole process a good 4-6 hour job sometimes.

Installing All Windows Updates At The Same Time On A New PC?

Sep 14, 2012

I'm rebuilding my desktop PC with a fresh installation of Windows 7 x64.Upon first boot after installation, 3 updates automatically installed. After a reboot, I was informed that over 100 additional recommended updates (and quite a few optional updates) were ready to be installed.I chose to install all of the recommended and optional updates (except for the 39 international updates).During the Windows Update installation process, a Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center installation window appeared. When the progress bar got to about 75%, however, the following error dialog appeared underneath: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime LibraryThis application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way Presumably, the installation of the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center (and perhaps other items) failed to install; upon pressing the OK button, I was informed that 51 updates succeeded and 75 failed. Codes 800706BE 800706BA were mentioned.Upon reboot, another batch of updates (75?) installed; then the PC rebooted twice. At this point, Windows 7 appears to be completely installed and up to date. There are no new items in Windows Updates. However, the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center is nowhere to be found; I was able to download the installer and successfully install the product.

Installing Updates (1 Of 9) But No Internet Connection

Jan 15, 2013

Windows tells me not to unplug or power off machine. But I think I have no internet connection, so how can Windows install 9 updates?

In "Wireless Network Connection Status" I saw:

IPV4 Connectivity No Network Access
IPV6 Connectivity No Network Access
Media (something) Disabled

I cannot connect to my wireless network. Other computers on the home wireless network work fine. This makes me suspect a failed wireless adapter card in my PC. I did not check Device Manager for a bad adapter before I ordered "Shutdown".

Can I power off the PC anyway? Will something bad happen if I do? If I shutdown and power back up, what can I do to fix the "No Network Access" problems and go on line? Troubleshoot adapter through Device Manager? Any other ideas or precautions?
