View 2 Replies View RelatedLast week I had a Win XP desktop computer. I use a Netgear WGR614 V6 router. I have fiber to the house and use a Cat5e Ethernet cable to connect the router to the wall jack and Cat5e from the router to the XP computer. I also used Wi-Fi to connect my Windows 7 x64 new laptop and an older XP laptop to the Internet. Everyone was happy and all worked well! I set-up a new Dell Windows 7 x64 desktop computer (it currently connects to the Internet just fine).
During the period I was setting up the new Windows 7 desktop I had both the XP desktop unit AND the new Windows 7 desktop connected to the router via Ethernet cables (at that time both laptops could connect to the Internet). After I had transferred the XP files to the Win 7 computer I just shut down the XP computer and removed the Ethernet cable linking the XP computer and the router - the new Windows 7 computer still connected to the Internet fine (as it still does today).
I made 2 changes to the router:
1) I had the XP desktop connected to Port 3 on the back of the router and had the Windows 7 x64 desktop connected to Port 2 on the router.
2) I used Cat5e cable on the XP desktop and used a Cat 6 cable to connect the new Windows 7 desktop unit to the router.
Both laptops see my router name but neither laptop can connect - even ran the troubleshooting routine. Could simply using Cat6 cable be causing a problem (Windows 7 desktop connects fine via the cable, laptops can not connect via Wi-Fi)? Surely just changing the port I connect the desktop cable to the router with wouldn't cause any problem would it? Do I need to do some sort of set-up or configuration to the new desktop unit to make the router Wi-Fi work for the laptops?
I have two laptops. 30 minutes ago, both of connected just fine. Then I uninstalled two programs called ezvid and Sendori. On both computers. Now one of them cannot open up any web pages, but the other one is completely fine. Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer. None of them work. I've tried the system restore twice, but both times it said that it was unable to restore.
I've also spoken to a Comcast representative and done the CMD ipconfig/release and renew. I've tried it on Safe Mode. I've tried turning off my fire wall. I've even connected the computer to the router with a wire.
I don't know what this means but it popped up after everthing went wrong: "Error loading peer to peer connection. Listening port is blocked and returned port zero, please check you firewall settings and you networks adapters. Downloads and fill lenght videos cannot be watched without the peer to peer library!"
I am unable to connect to the internet in wireless mode. It shows the available networks, but does not connect when I type in my router password. I have tried everything I know of. Uninstalled/Reinstalled the driver - I have an Intel 5100 AGN wireless driver installed. I disabled and enabled it. Didn't work. Running command prompt and typing in ipconfig /all doesn't detect my adapter device - says "Media Disconnected".I also did these by running command prompt as an administrator: Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalogReset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.logReset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.logand restarted my computer. I have a Dell Studio 1555 with Win 7 (32-bit) Professional. What am I supposed to do now? Please help!PS: I know this is a problem with my Windows as the wireless works seamlessly in my Ubuntu.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI can connect to wi-fi, but not to other the internet. A wired connection will not connect to the internet either. Other devices (ipad, laptop, directv box, etc... all connect fine. Using the network map I can see the other devices on my network from this pc. If I run in safe mode with networking I can connect to the internet.
Windows firewall is disabled, using McAfee firewall. I momentarily disabled all firewalls and still unable to connect to the internet. I have scanned the computer (in safe mode) with McAfee, Malware Malybytes, & the MS Windows malicous software scanner. All clean. I was thinking virus or malware, but have done everything I can think of.
Same wifi network works on my laptop but not my desktop. Running the troubleshooter on my desktop comes up with no errors. My ipconfig /all is below.

I have been having a problem with connecting to Wifi signals ever since this RunDLL error message has started popping up when I restart my computer. When I plug in an Ethernet cord I can connect to the internet but I can't connect to Wifi signals. I'm figuring there are some files missing by what these error messages are telling me.
The Messages: (appears in two different windows)
There was a problem starting

At one point I ran a virus scan; could it be that the files got contaminated and were deleted? If so how do I get these files back?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been away from the PC world for the past few years because I've been running a Mac.I decided to get back into some gaming on picked up a Dell XPS desktop running windows 7 ultimate x64.I bought a Asus USB N10 Wifi Adapter and it won't connect to the internet. It gets a limited activity logo over top of the connection. Today I tried plugging it rite into the router with a LAN cable and still, no dice. Came up with an IP address error.I'm guessing this is a router issue? When i run ipconfig in cmd prompt, it doesn't even have a default gateway?

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the past few months, I have been accessing the internet with my laptop's wifi through my neighbor's password-protected network (with his permission). I also sometimes go online using another neighborhood network which does NOT have a security key.As of today, I can view networks and connect to both of these (as well as others), but I can't get online. I get the "No Internet access" message when I connect to any network. When I go to the command prompt and type ipconfig /all, I get this for IPv4 address: 192.168.1.9(Preferred) and I cannot successfully ping any ip addresses.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy roommate and I have noticed that whenever my PC is turned on, nothing else can connect to our wireless -- our phones, laptops, and the PS3 simply won't connect. When we turn it off, all of those can be connected at the same time, but the second windows 7 begins, they'll all lose connection.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I bought a crossover cable just to connect two laptops. Like, a network. Mine is running on windows 7 and the other laptop is running on Vista. So I configured both laptops to be in the same workgroup (left the homegroup in Windows 7) and configured both NIC's to have an IP in the same class - one of them is 10.1.1.1 and the other one is 10.1.1.2 and subnet masks are the same 255.255.255.0. Now, I should be able to ping each of the laptops. But it pings only from Vista (10.1.1.2) to Windows 7 (10.1.1.1) and not the other way.
Network window in Windows 7 shows some computers in the different network, but in the same building, but does not show the laptop connected with the crossover cable. Network window in win vista does not show any computers. Both computers have some shared folders (for users Guest and Everyone).
I would really like to know what am I doing wrong, and how do I connect these two computers so I could easily transfer some files?

View 9 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to connect 2 laptops - one windows 7 the other xp to just share files. I've done this with 2 xp laptops easily with a cat5 cable.
We are downloading pictures from a camera to one pc and need to then transfer to the other. There's no internet involved.
What would be the best way to do this? I can't get it to work with the cat 5; crossover seems to involve the internet, usb uses transfer software and isn't what I need. I just need to copy over images from a shared folder from one laptop to another.
I'm trying to format the above listed card through my Toshiba Sattilite 660-x running windows 7 w/ an sd adapter card slot from out of my Nokia E-5 cellphone. It keeps telling me in 6 attempts that windows cannot format it. Properties on the card show it as full, but it has never had more than 16gb put on it. As this card is not even 2 months old. Is there a site that can use to format this on freeware...etc?

Until yesterday morning I had a good wifi signal. We are in France and run on Nordnet Satellite Internet. However, now I have an exclamation mark on signal bar and no internet access. We are on Nordnet Satellite and I am running WIndows 7 on a Sony Vaio laptop. It is not the router as my husband's laptop is working fine with no connection problems. I can connect to internet by using cable but not wifi which is very inconvenient as I have to keep bringing the computer downstairs.Have done diagnostic check and error is: Windows cannot connect with the device or resource (primary DNS server)Computer also trying to connect by cellular profile (which is the O2 dongle that I use when I go to the UK). I keep getting the O2 box up asking me if I want to connect which it did (without the dongle inserted) but although it will bring up Google it won't connect to anything.I'm not very technical but have done the obvious things like system restore and checking the adaptor settings in Network and Sharing but just can't figure out what the problem is. If I try to set up a new connection it just keeps referring back to the cellular profile which is presumably for O2?
View 5 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows 7 Home Premium on a netbook. Since yesterday get message "Windows cannot connect to wifi". Running checks suggests resetting the router, but two other devices, an IPad and an almost identical netbook are connected no problem. I havn't changed anything. It can see the router. Done normal reboots, disconnect reuse connect adapter etc. no luck. This has happened before on two other computers on different routers, and we don't know what eventually fixed it, although changing the encryption method might have solved one of them, even though that computer had been connecting for weeks before the failure. The only one of our family devices never to have experienced this is the IPad.
