File Sharing Windows 7 Xp Laptops No Internet
Nov 15, 2011
Is it possible to connect 2 laptops - one windows 7 the other xp to just share files. I've done this with 2 xp laptops easily with a cat5 cable.
We are downloading pictures from a camera to one pc and need to then transfer to the other. There's no internet involved.
What would be the best way to do this? I can't get it to work with the cat 5; crossover seems to involve the internet, usb uses transfer software and isn't what I need. I just need to copy over images from a shared folder from one laptop to another.

I have two laptops. 30 minutes ago, both of connected just fine. Then I uninstalled two programs called ezvid and Sendori. On both computers. Now one of them cannot open up any web pages, but the other one is completely fine. Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer. None of them work. I've tried the system restore twice, but both times it said that it was unable to restore.
I've also spoken to a Comcast representative and done the CMD ipconfig/release and renew. I've tried it on Safe Mode. I've tried turning off my fire wall. I've even connected the computer to the router with a wire.
I don't know what this means but it popped up after everthing went wrong: "Error loading peer to peer connection. Listening port is blocked and returned port zero, please check you firewall settings and you networks adapters. Downloads and fill lenght videos cannot be watched without the peer to peer library!"

I am trying to share files between and old home PC running XP, to a new PC running Windows 7. Both PC's are connected directly to a router via LAN cables. I am looking to transfer all the old files and documents to the new Windows 7 PC.The Windows 7 PC currently shares files with other laptops (running Windows 7). I believe that I have setup up both PC for file sharing, but I am unable to see the other PC on either machine. On the PC with XP, I can see under 'M Network Places', the folder and file structure that would like to share.

I've read the OLD posts on this problem, and tried the 'fix' described. Doesn't work. I've reset the permissions, I've done everything I can think of, and this blasted OS will NOT allow me to change from the LOCKED/Nobody setting.

I have 3 windows 7 computers and one windows xp machine that acts as our media server (With over 9 tb's of data). Me and my brother (Windows 7) can connect to the xp machine no problems, doesn't ask for a password or anything just does it, but I can't connect to my brothers and he can't connect to mine. So my question is, how can I share EVERYTHING with NO passwords or anything like that, I just want everything to be shared so everyone on my network can get to it

I have 2 systems one with windows 7 and an older one with XP. The Windows 7 machine connects to the internet through a network adapter and gets its IP adress automatically and works perfectly both in xp and in 7. The Windows 7 machine is connected to the XP Machine via a second adapter (pci) and a crosslinked cable.
Before Windows 7 IN WINDOWS XP the 7 machine used an ip like 192.168.0.1 and ICS to give internet to the second machine (which got its ip automatically)
I tried a lot of things (ex. static fixed ips enable the computers to share files but not the internet connection) but i still keeps saying its an Unidentified Network / Public Network for the second connection (between the computers)
Note: - ICS is enabled for the internet connection.
- Back when both computers had XP the second XP computer obtained its IP Adress automatically and the internet was shared .. with 7 on the second (xp) computer doesnt aquire the right adress ever.

Okay I have two computers. They're both running win7 64bit home premium. The laptop seems fine and can file and printer share. So basically I'm trying to share my printer on my desktop pc connected through the usb as so I can print from my laptop. They seem to connect to each other and both are in the same homegroup. But I keep getting the can't connect to printer error. But it works if I do it the opposite way which is connect printer to laptop and network the printer through desktop. So it seems to be the settings or something on my desktop PC.The only folder I can access over the network on my desktop PC is the public folder. All the other folders say "access is denied". So there seems to be going on with my permissions, access, etc from my desktop PC. I already selected the folders I want to share and selected share with homegroup(read/write).

i have a small web server running Fedora 15 and Apache, and I have a "pictures" folder on a windows machine that I have mounted from my /etc/fstab file, with "rw" access, however when I try to use a freeware PHP script in this particular folder, it doesn't display properly (won't show subfolders).I created a new folder directly on the linux machine, and the script works fine there.
Here's the setup:D:SharedPics - windows ntfs folder, shared as \winserverpics, and this share is mounted as /var/www/html/pics with RW access (although the username/pw I supply in .smbcreds file has "full" access.) PHP script does not work here. All linux permissions show rwxr-xr-x for files and folders, and owner is "root:root"I copied all of the files/subfolders from the "pics" folder into another folder, directly located at /var/www/html/pics1. file/folder permissions are exactly the same as the pics folder. PHP script works fine here.File and share permissions on the windows machine are set for read/write/modify for "Everyone", but it seems that the samba "service" is receiving different permissions. I've checked the smb.conf file and not been able to find anything that would cause "read only" permissions.

I'm trying to set up shared folders on an XP computer, to be viewed on a windows 7 computer. My setup is this:Windows 7 (ZombyGeek-PC)Router --------- Windows XP (Desktop-PC)Both computer's are under the same workgroup name: ZOMBYHORDE//I can access the "Public Folders" in windows 7 from windows xp, but I cannot access the "Shared Documents" folder in windows xp from windows 7.When in windows 7, clicking "Desktop-PC" from the network window, i'm prompted for a user name and password. I've typed in the windows xp username and password AND the windows 7 user name and password, but both say "Login Failure: unknown user name or bad password."

I am the admin on all machines. I am using XP, Vista and Win 7 on my home network and have set up a workgroup network, it all works and I can see each machine on my separate Machines ..But I have a problem with sharing files. Every time I go to get a file from any machine a User account dialog box pops up requests a user name and pass word??? How can I remove this problem from all machines? do I need to setup account on all machines allowing access to each other or is there a simpler way? If I need to set up unrestricted accounts how do I do it? I can get some files from one machines then it may request a Username & password?

I used the standard trick of assigning permissions to the "Everyone" group to allow file sharing among all the Windows 7 and winXP computers on my home network. All was working fine until my son took his computer to school and they made him load their security software. When he came home for the summer, his computer could still see the network and file shares, but none of the other computers could see his shared files. This persisted even after I uninstalled the anti-virus software they made him install. I can fix the problem by disabling the windows firewall on his computer. That is probably safe here because of the firewall in my router, but I'm worried that might not be safe when he connects to other networks. Plus I can leave the windows firewall enabled on all my other computers, so I suspect there should be a better way around this problem. If I click "Diagnose" when my computer can't access my son's computer I get a message that says that windows can't find IPC$. So on my son's computer I opened a dos window and typed "net share ipc$" (a command I found from a google search about this problem). The response to this command was "System error 5 has occured; Access Denied".

I have two laptops, that are at the same DOMAIN (not workgroup) at work. One runs Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit and the other Windows XP professional 32 bit (with SP3). There, a domain controller takes care of all authentication issues and I have no problems sharing files from the one to the other and vice-versa. Question is, what happens at home/other place where there is no domain controller available? I have a wireless modem/router and I can, indeed, "see" one computer from the other (in the network folder of course).
But I cannot access the one from the other and I get an error message when I try to, with the usual "so-and-so is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Not enough server storage is available to process this command." (when trying to access the XP PC from the Windows 7 one). I take the last line to mean that there is no domain controller (which is correct).

I just bought a new laptop and decided to get windows 7 on it.
So far everything is great, i love how it looks and all works fine. Seting up wlan and all was no problem.
THE problem is... well with both old pcs (one pc one laptop) we had home network (or whatever network) set up so i could copy the files from sisters pc to my lappy and the other way around.
So now i have windows 7 on the new laptop.
And Vista on my old laptop (Vista 32 bit SP1)
And 0 idea what or where and how to do so i can share the files and get em from my old laptop on the new one... Flash is all fine and dandy but 100+Gb is a bit too much to be transfering with a 2Gb flash card <_< (old lappy does not have Bluetooth either btw...)
Are there any tutorials perhaps on how to get this done or at least ideas?

I bought a NETGEAR DGN2200 modem/router to connect my 2 laptops, printer, USB HDD for file storage and sharing, and at this stage I'm not sure if I will connect my desktop PC as it is a much older machine with Windows 2000 Pro which I don't want to access the internet, although I am thinking that it would be better to have the printer connected via the desktop as this is logically a more permanent setup. Hard wired ADSL will be connected in about 2 weeks.I was having a bit of a play with the router to familiarise myself with it all and I managed to set it up so that my main laptop (Windows 7) has the option to connect by hardwire or wireless, my second laptop (winXP) conects through wireless. Both laptops successfully connected
I connected the printer to my second laptop (winXP) to see if I could have access to the printer from my main laptop (Windows 7). It could see the printer but not access it and kept trying to search for the diver. As I hadn't installed the drivers onto this laptop I thought that if I download the driver and install it, then it won't look for it through windows update via the router. For this to happen, I had to disconnect from the LAN and connect to the internet via my USB modem (the two won't work simultaneously). So I connected the printer to my main laptop and allowed it to find the driver online itself.
I then connected the printer back into the second laptop (winXP) and tried to access it from my main laptop and the same thing happened, it wanted to search windows update again. After failing to find anything through the windows update, it gives the option of browsing for the .inf file on the computer, and although I spent a while trying to locate where the file was I was unsuccessful.I also am unable to share files between the two laptops, although I have turned file and print sharing on with both laptops. I have seen options to set up workgroups (winXP) and homegroups (Windows 7), but the two are not compatible.
