Computer Randomly Shut Off, Won't Reboot
Oct 15, 2011last night i was just minding my own business watching Internet videos, until my computer just randomly restart. the tower was still fully powered but the operating system restart, and now i can't boot up windows! every time i try to boot it up i get a black screen with a flashing _ at the top and it just stays there, i've tried booting up in safe mode but that doesn't work! i put good money into this computer and there's allot of important files on it for my school work on it, i'm using a friend's laptop until then.

Jul 29, 2012I ran the lastest Windows updates on my PC and when it rebooted it was stuck on the "Configuring Windows do Not Shut Down" screen for hours. Finally, I shut down and the PC would not start up. I tried to do a system restore to before the Windows update, and got errors. However, the PC did start up (and actually said the restore worked), but not everything is functioning correctly on the PC (there is no HDMI sound for example and Google Chrome Updater will not connect to the internet). I tried to do another system restore from within Windows and got the error message in the attached screen shot.

Apr 24, 2009Recently upgraded to 64bit. Seems i have a little problem with both 7077 and 7100. The PC wont shut down, or restart, it just hangs. Occasionally it will restart but not often. Ive tried everything such as Bios checking, unplugging external equipement.
Its not any software ive installed, it even does it during setup. Will come to a part of setup where it needs to restart and it hangs, i have to manually restart it for setup to continue.
I hope someone has a clue as to what may be doing it, as i thought it was a 7077 bug and it turns out its more likely my PC then anything else.

Around 3 weeks ago it started getting stuck on the shut down screen, and then it wouldn't shut down or restart from the start menu. This meant I had to remove the battery or hibernate the netbook when I wasn't using it. I fixed this so it would shut down by doing a system restore from a previous restore point. However after a week it's gone back to not shutting down from the start menu. Acer told me to do a complete system restore, but I'd rather not because I need all of my files for my uni work.

Feb 17, 2012I just received my brand new computer yesterday. It runs like a dream and I was loving it. There is one problem though, and I haven't ever seen this before, I am hoping maybe someone can shed some light on this. When I hit shutdown, it will act like it is shutting down. But it seems to freeze on the Windows is shutting down screen, the little circle shown no more progress. I can hear my hard drive power down, and it shows no more activity, however the case stays on and the Shutting Down screen stays up. (this is my first 64 bit)?

Computer Locked - Windows 7 Won't Boot Up After Hard Shut Down
Mar 1, 2011I was waking up one morning to get a quiz done before my Computer Science class. I like to think I'm pretty proficient. But when my computer was going really slow, and eventually locked up, I was forced to do a hard shutdown. Unfortunately, when I went to load it up, it loaded the BIOS, and then it goes to load Windows and poof. Starting windows pops up, but the windows icon never pops up. After about 5-10 minutes, my computer will restart.
Alright, so the first general action is to boot into Safe Mode, but this doesn't work either. I try to boot it up and the greyish screen with "Loading Windows Files." at the top and "Please Wait..." at the bottom. It stops there. Nothing loads up, it just stops. So, I hard reset it again, and THIS time, it says " Startup Repair. " So, I think to myself, this should fix the problem. I load up the startup repair. Loading Windows Files works, then it looks like its loading up and then BAM!
Black screen with a white cursor. SO! I have read up on this error quite a bit, but unfortunately, most of them happen before log in. They say to Ctr+Alt+Del into task manager. I don't have that option because the ctrl alt del doesn't work. So, I break down and try and load up the recovery console from my USB drive that I have on boot. All that does is mimic trying to do startup repair.

Apr 21, 2012Every time the computer goes out when the lights shut off or when it is shut off improper i always get disk error and have to restart a million times till it finally works. I am wondering is their anyway to fix this with out having to reformat.

Jun 12, 2012First off, I'd like to say that this isn't an overheating issue, because I am able to play Computer intensive games (like Star Craft II) for 4+ hours with no problems, but I can't play certain games for longer than 15-20 minutes. So far it has only happened to me with 3 games:
1. Halo Combat Evolved
2. Assassin's Creed II
3. Brink
If it was only Halo, which is an older game, my guess would be that it is a driver/compatibility issue. But when it happened with Assassin's Creed II and Brink, it totally baffled me as to what could be the problem. Before they shut down, They usually freeze for a second and then the screen goes black and then shuts down(without restart). Brink had the odd case of having it go a bit laggy, and the textures being blurry(not loaded properly) and then freezing>shutdown.because its making me feel insecure as to whether I should get other games, because I'm afraid my laptop will turn off, and I won't be able to play it properly.Oh I'd also like to say that after a shutdown, CS : S gets very buggy for a bit, and then returns to normal, I haven't noticed it on any other games happening though.

Oct 19, 2009I have a couple of problems.. first of all my computer wont shut down. It looks like it is going to in the beginning and after the "Shutting down" window the screen turns blank but the computer is still running and a couple of seconds later it starts to boot up, I noticed that the boot up image stays on for a while and I also hear the hard disks spinning up again, as if they had stopped. This has been like this since I installed Windows 7.
I've made sure that the Power button is set to shut down the computer in the "Taskbar and startmenu properties" and I've also undone the "Automatically restart" in Startup and Recovery.
Another "problem" or so. It seems like windows 7 thinks my desktop computer is a laptop.. o.
And the third and final problem has to do with my wireless network adapter. It's the Realtek RTL8185.
It's been troublesome since the beginning. The windows drivers don't work one bit so I had to get the 64bit drivers online from another computer. Had to force the computer to use them (Have disk) and then it would work for a while until i disconnect and windows can't figure out why..
I've read on the web that there have been issues with it and Windows 7 and this fix is said to be other drivers but they semi-fail me.. Right now I'm using a sucky USB adapter. Seems to work so far, if this works the next 2 days it's definitely just that Realtek thing that's failing. Maybe I can find older drivers.
I doubt anyone has the answer to this issue, I know I'm not giving um information about it.. right now I'm trying to find the CD that came with the damn thing..
Anyhow, hope you can help with the first 2 problems.

Oct 27, 2009It just goes into a sleep mode that I can't wake it up from. Have to hit the reset button to re awaken. I can actually hear it click off and click on quickly. Hope somebody can help me with this because wading thru the Q and A bull at Microsoft Solutions is enough to make one throw the box out the window.

Oct 14, 2011My Gateway runs great until a restart is requested by me or a program. A few days ago, it would restart just fine.
When I select Restart, the computer appears to shut down fine, it beeps to restart, the Windows 7 screen begins to open but it freezes with three colored dots on the screen. It always stops in exactly the same place.
If I kill power, then boot again I get an offer for Windows to repair itself. If I let it, it cannot repair. If I select Boot Windows Normally, all is well. I can't tell there are any issues. Except for this one problem, things are really running well. Odd.
I've run Chkdsk, SFC/ SCANNOW, and PC Pitstop Optimize3. Nothing finds a problem or fixes anything.

Random Shut Down Of Computer While Gaming
May 16, 2012my computer randomly shuts off while running games. First noticed while experimenting with Aion, a few days later it also occurs with Star Wars: The Old Republic, something it hadn't done before. The program files don't include any duplicate files (which I thought may be a problem. Aion did have a duplicate initially, and the deletion of this file appeared to fix the problem, though it returned the next day. Further research has indicated that the CPU maybe overheating, or the the PSU is failing. I'm not "techy" enough to know if it is the PSU, when the computer shuts down, there is no warning, just a black screen and then the keyboard lights and fans stop running roughly 5s afterwards.
