My minister has an hp laptop that uses Vista and I have suggested that she should convert to System Seven. So my question is this, how can it be done without losing any data, preferably and can it be done and have it run effectively with no bugs.

A few days back my laptop slid and fell down, and since then i have had this trouble. My windows is not loading up.....it takes me to a black screen.
how i recover the windows using those CDs? And also if i use them, does that save my data on D drive or not? I dont really have any data that i want to save on my C drive. What other options do i have to save my data ?
So currently I have Windows Xp and Windows 7 /32bit installed. Windows XP on C Drive and Windows 7 on D.I would like to install Windows 7 /64 bit over windows XP so I can use more than 4G Ram. So I would have both 32 and 64 bit windows on the same PC. I have few questions: Can I somehow upgrade from XP to 7 without losing data and files? Will I still be able to go on the Windows 7 /32Bit?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HP s5-1200z computer with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit. I have been reading and trying different things for the last three days trying to upgrade my hard drive. The computer came with a 500GB and I want to use my 1TB instead. The first thing that I did was create a system image and a system repair disc. I then restarted my computer and booted from the system repair disc. I selected my keyboard setup and then received an error stating �This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows�I can not figure out why I am getting this error message. Many post say that it is because 32 bit vs 64 bit. My computer is 64 bit and the repair disc that I made is 64 bit as well. With no luck on upgrading my hdd I decided to take a different approach. I then cloned my 500GB to my 1TB using Easeus Partition Master Home Edition. Everything seems to be on the 1TB HDD it stated it was successful. I then removed the source hdd and installed the 1TB destination hdd, I turned the computer on and received an error "bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+delete to reboot." I also spent many more hours researching this problem, I can not find a solution. Many articles say boot from system repair disc and click repair your computer" when I try to do that I still continue to receive the error "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows"I have read that having more than one hdd connected at once can cause boot errors. But I do not believe this is the case because my computer can only hold one hdd.I also downloaded the Windows Home Premium x64 from mydigitallife to try and repair my pc from there only to receive the same error.

When I installed the unit, one the first boot, I could see both drives.One the second boot, It had formed a RAID 0 to show it as one large drive. Reason for install was to have 2 different boot drives that would utilize the remaining drive as a data disc. Now when I try to decouple them, it says I will lose all data.

I have a large 4000 x 25 Excel 2003 spreadsheet that keeps losing rows of data. I normally add 5-10 rows a day and over the last few weeks I have noticed that a couple of days data has disappeared every so often. The sheet is being closed cleanly and saved. Fortunately I have a daily backup so I have been able to go back. the data is there for two days after it was originally entered and then disappears. There has been no restore of the data and the rows have not been accidentally deleted.

However, when it restarted, the screen is now changing from red to bright green, to blue, to gray, darker gray, gradient white/gray, black, and repeat. Is it supposed to do this? It seems like the hard drive is still active as the indicator light flickers, but I haven't seen any tutorial that mentions this happening. It kind of looks like the colors are being tested or something but it's been going on for maybe 20 minutes now?

So, I took the old HDD and slapped it in the new PC, hoping to copy files and Opera's bookmarks and passwords, etc.I can't figure out how to do this- Windows Easy Transfer only works with two PCs, and right-clicking the files (which I can see) does not give the option to "send to" the new HDD. View 5 Replies View RelatedI build, and then support many computers for my friends and family. I have recently started making them feel a bit more "manufactured" by using a factory-style recovery option (press F9 at boot to enter recovery / uses a hidden recovery partition etc...).
The issue I have though, is I often get asked to "wipe" someone's computer following a virus/malware infestation (and yes, I do supply AV, but that isn't always enough).
So, I use Sysprep to install all additional software, drivers etc... but the one problem I have is that I like to have, and usually always configure PC's to store items like Documents/Pictures/Music/Videos etc... on a seperate partition.
The problem is, when I configure this in Sysprep - the settings are lost when the user completes OOBE.
Ideally, I do not want to move the entire "Users" directory, I just want the libraries to never look at any folders on the C: drive, only the ones on D: (D:\%USERNAME%Documents etc...).
I want it so that when files "detect" where to save, it locates the appropriate directory on the D: drive, so they dont have to always manually locate the folders.
The reason I dont want the entire "Users" folder on D: is that following a restore or 2, it will get messy...
I would like to either automate this during setup, or would happily take a manual approach during Sysprep - as long as it applied these settings to all users as and when they are created.
I would like the cleanest way to do this, ideally without junctions/symlinks.
I am living in Beijing, China at present and am about to buy a new Lenovo Ideapad Laptop. This comes with Windows Vista Home Premium Preinstalled (Chinese Version). I then intend to use the Free Windows 7 Upgrade Program to acquire Eglish language media
It is clear in Microsoft's documentation that this is not a supported upgrade path.
However, assuming I can get Lenovo to provide the English Language Windows 7 upgrade media, I should be able to do a clean install as per Doing a Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version and Paul Thurrot's Method.
In fact this would be the method for achieving any unsupported upgrade path, eg:
Vista 32 -> 7 64
Vista 64 -> 7 32
Chinese Vista -> English 7
Can anyone confirm that this is true, particularly for the language upgrade.
I'm currently running a primary disk for my system drive on windows 7, with two other 1tb drives for saving data set to raid1(Mirror each other ). However my primary disk has problems and need to be upgraded.Would I need to reformat the two mirror data drives before i do the upgrade in order to ensure the raid 1 is working

The HP recovery was on D: with everything else on C:I deleted the Data from the D:recovery disc as I had no more use for Vista and most of the programs that came from HP would not work with Windows 7. I have recovery disc if I do need them at a later date to reinstall Vista.I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on C: This left D: partition empty. I have most recently used D which is about 13 GB for4 abackup of some of my programs.I also have another 640 GB hard disc which is G: that I use as backup for my windows system.I would like to do away with the D: partition because I can also put all my program backups on G: as well.How do I delete the D: partition and incorporate that space into the C: partition? View 6 Replies View RelatedThis all started whenever I wanted to change my text size different by changing my DPI settings. What I did was right click, go to screen resolution, and clicked on "Make text and other items larger or smaller". From this I changed it to 100% from 125%. I noticed it had changed my font size to the 100%. It then made everything SUPER small when I changed my theme settings.Whenever I right click and go into personalization settings, I do the usual customizing to my likings. Since I want to save the theme, I do so by naming it, blah. Now I want to use the blah theme by click on it, and I do so. Everything is fine and dandy until I right click my desktop to refresh(out of habit). This is the before and after of the font sizes.

My workaround was to set a custom DPI setting, log off like it prompts me to, then changing it back to 100%, again prompting to do so. It is so annoying to do so.
My system dual boots to either Windows 7 or Vista Ultimate, or, at least it is supposed to. Something happened and now the system just boots to Winodows 7 without giving me the choice to boot to either. When I use F6 I find that only Windows 7 is listed in the Operating Systems box.

Partitioned the hard drive to install Vista Home Premium 32bit to create a dual boot system solely to run these two programs.Can't get Vista to load. Followed tutorial meticulously. All goes fine until the "Vista will boot for the first time" step. After this first boot, the screen returns to the "completing installation" page. However, the process dies here and the progress bar across the bottom of the screen never moves, even after an hour. Reformatted the partition and started over with same results. Multiple attempts always die after the first boot.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 64bit. I have two DVD drives "D" and "F" both connected by Sata to the motherboard (Asus MA78 Pro).
"D" is fine. "F" disappears! Not shown in "Computer" or "Control panel" I have tried all the registry hacks I can find, together with all other advice from the 'web, to no avail.
If I open the case, unplug and reconnect the power cable, Win 7 will immediately recognise the drive and install the drivers. All is fine for a few days before "F" vanishes again. No alteration to the computer is done during this time.
