Remove RAID Members Without Losing Data?
Oct 3, 2012
I purchased an internal bay that supports 3 removable SATA hard drives. I had 2 hard drives (1-OS, 1-Data). When I installed the unit, one the first boot, I could see both drives. One the second boot, It had formed a RAID 0 to show it as one large drive. Reason for install was to have 2 different boot drives that would utilize the remaining drive as a data disc. Now when I try to decouple them, it says I will lose all data.

Currently I'm interested in upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista, unfortunately I've accumulated a collection of programs and media that I would not be interested in losing.

My minister has an hp laptop that uses Vista and I have suggested that she should convert to System Seven. So my question is this, how can it be done without losing any data, preferably and can it be done and have it run effectively with no bugs.

I have an HP s5-1200z computer with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit. I have been reading and trying different things for the last three days trying to upgrade my hard drive. The computer came with a 500GB and I want to use my 1TB instead. The first thing that I did was create a system image and a system repair disc. I then restarted my computer and booted from the system repair disc. I selected my keyboard setup and then received an error stating This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of WindowsI can not figure out why I am getting this error message. Many post say that it is because 32 bit vs 64 bit. My computer is 64 bit and the repair disc that I made is 64 bit as well. With no luck on upgrading my hdd I decided to take a different approach. I then cloned my 500GB to my 1TB using Easeus Partition Master Home Edition. Everything seems to be on the 1TB HDD it stated it was successful. I then removed the source hdd and installed the 1TB destination hdd, I turned the computer on and received an error "bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+delete to reboot." I also spent many more hours researching this problem, I can not find a solution. Many articles say boot from system repair disc and click repair your computer" when I try to do that I still continue to receive the error "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows"I have read that having more than one hdd connected at once can cause boot errors. But I do not believe this is the case because my computer can only hold one hdd.I also downloaded the Windows Home Premium x64 from mydigitallife to try and repair my pc from there only to receive the same error.

I have a Samsung QX410 with Windows 7, 64 bit. When i bought it, i had made a set of 4 recovery disks (i dont really know how they work, or what they do). A few days back my laptop slid and fell down, and since then i have had this trouble. My windows is not loading up.....it takes me to a black screen.
how i recover the windows using those CDs? And also if i use them, does that save my data on D drive or not? I dont really have any data that i want to save on my C drive. What other options do i have to save my data ?

I have a large 4000 x 25 Excel 2003 spreadsheet that keeps losing rows of data. I normally add 5-10 rows a day and over the last few weeks I have noticed that a couple of days data has disappeared every so often. The sheet is being closed cleanly and saved. Fortunately I have a daily backup so I have been able to go back. the data is there for two days after it was originally entered and then disappears. There has been no restore of the data and the rows have not been accidentally deleted.

So currently I have Windows Xp and Windows 7 /32bit installed. Windows XP on C Drive and Windows 7 on D.I would like to install Windows 7 /64 bit over windows XP so I can use more than 4G Ram. So I would have both 32 and 64 bit windows on the same PC. I have few questions: Can I somehow upgrade from XP to 7 without losing data and files? Will I still be able to go on the Windows 7 /32Bit?

I have a dell inspiron 1721 which has 2 x 160GB HDD's configured as RAID 0. The laptop is broken but I'm almost positive the hdd's are ok. Is there something I can buy like an external dock that I can plug the 2 drives into and access the data? Maybe there is a sw solution? I thought about looking on eBay for a 2nd hand inspiron 1721 and poping in my drives but thats a bit pricey.

for my new system (s. specs) I want the SSD be for the OS on SATA3. My data I want on RAID 1 on two of the SAT2 ports. the 2 HDD currently are in a different old PC that still is in use and i can't swap them before i figured this out.I installed the SSD in AHCI mode. But now I realized i need to switch it ot RAID in order to use RAID. but when I do that, the OS doesn't seem to start anymore. While googling I learned RAId is some sort of better AHCI and I guess i could have installed the OS while in RAID mode. Is there a way to use RAID without having to re-install all new?I know RAID 1 isn't real backup and i also backup daily on separate disk and online.

My XP system died and I want to migrate my two RAID 0 drives (with data, incl XP) to my new Windows 7 PRO system. Does anyone know how to do this? If I set the BIOS to RAID instead of ACHI, 7 PRO recognizes and reports that the Promise Raid 0 Array is synchronizing. But, the system will only boot to a DVD repair disk, and not to the single hard drive.

I did have 2 hdds in RAID 0, and wanted to switch to a single disk (so I could swap the motherboard without issue).Cloned the 2 hdds to the single using Norton Ghost. It works fine and the PC boots no problem - but only if the bios (Asus) is set to 'configure sata as RAID'. If I change to 'configure sata as IDE' it won't boot (bsod during windows loading screen). The PC clearly thinks the new, single hdd is still a raid system - which presumably could cause problems when I upgrade the mobo. I have tried Windows 7 repair, fixmbr, fixboot, rebuild bcd... none of it makes any difference! How can I get the PC to realise it's just a single disk?

I have win 7 running on RAID 1 using 2 Seagate 750GB hdds...My motherboard is an ASUS P5 series with an onboard Intel Raid chip.So apparently one of the drives went dead and since it's RAID 1 no problem right? Just replace the disk and it will auto rebuild... Problem is, this thing happened just as i was about to step out of my house for a week long vacation... I thought i'd get a new drive when i got back and shutdown the pc to save on power while i was away...Fast forward a week, so i boot up the computer and the Intel Raid boot sequence shows that i have a degraded drive... No biggie... I thought i'd boot it up first and replace the degraded drive later... What i didn't notice was that Intel Raid controller had designated another one of my existing drives as a spare and marked it for auto rebuild in Windows...So, upon booting into Windows, Intel Rapid Storage starts rebuilding on the wrong drive... So now i have 1.5TB HDD data that has been wrongly auto rebuilt... I've sinced replaced the degraded drive and the array is back to normal but my data drive is mush... I tried using Active Undelete and it's able to scan the files and recover but the files are corrupted...

I re raided the 2 raptors and connected them to the jmicron ports and set them up for raid in bios, then created the raid 0 array no prob. Windows doesnt see the array when loaded up and i have the latest rst drivers installed..did this prior to the os install on the ssd. using the x58 e760a1 mobo. under device manager, the raid controller has an exclamation mark and no driver installed yet i have the latest rst 10.8.0.1003 installed..

I had one hard drive failed(640gb). I bought replacement and tried to restore image but it failed. Then I wanted to convert to non raid system. I changed both drives(640gb) to non raid and bios change in advance setup. I am getting error when I try to reinstall win 7, "setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more information". I have deleted old partition many times but win 7 setup on this dell xps435 desktop won't install windows.
