Change The Default 'Arrange By' View Of My Documents?
Nov 4, 2011
I have a colleague who is having problems with documents being saved in 'My Documents' but which are then not visible. After consulting our external IT company, we were told it because the 'Arrange By' option in My Documents was set to 'Name' and it should be set to 'Folder'.
My colleague changed this and it solved the problem. However, every day it reverts to the default arrange by 'name' setting, and she has to manually change it to 'folder'.
How do I change the settings so that it arranges by 'folder' by default?
Now Default View Is Large Icons. I Try to Change Default to Small Icons Like This. But When I Re-Open Devices And Printers Windows. Default View Is Back to Large Icons [It No Remember Small Icons View Follow I'm Settings Before].
discovered a way to change the Windows 7 file and folder view to "List" view instead of the default Win 7 "Details" view?In WinXP, you simply went to Folder Options dialog box >> "View" tab and it allowed you to change the view for an entire drive with one click. Win 7 does not do this.much prefer "List" view, but the only way to change it is folder-by-folder which becomes aggravating after several dozen folder changes.Plus, once you have changed the file view inside of a folder to "List" view... if you change the folder name, every file and folder, no matter how deep, inside that re-named folder will return to "Details" view.hat a PITA...I have Googled this and searched for some time, but have come up with no answer, I thought I might ask the folks at Tom's and see what we come up with.
In "My Pictures" (only), the "New Folder" option on top is gone and no matter how much I try to arrange the pictures to view my "Subfolders" instead of viewing the pictures arranged by "Day" I can't.I just want that "New folder" option up again, and to view all the subfolders (Arranged by: Folder) I made instead having it "Arranged by: Day". I can still change the "Arranged by: ___" to any of these --->Month, Day, rating, tag.And yes, I've tried changing the "Arranged by: ___" to "Folders" but nothing shows up, except the 4 options I just listed
when i try to open my windows explorer to view the documents....it displays 'windows explorer had stopped working' and then it shows 'windows explorer is restarting' then nothing happens..

In WinXP you could permanetly set the default view for folder icons like "list, icon or thumbnail". While that feature exists in Windows 7, it doesn't work like XP.
When I Open up an Excel workbook, I would like to set up a default Folder when opening up regular workbook. For e.g I would like to set up My Documents as the default folder. If I open up a workbook in say "Downloads" Folder" , the folder must default back to My Documents" so that when I want to open up another workbook, it defaults back to My Documents?
I changed default location of my documents using: properties -> move...Now the problem is I changed it to my Data partition E: instead of to a directory ''documents'' I made on the data partition. Now I can not click properties to change it back to default.
I have 3 computers. Computer A is a desktop runing Windows 7 Professional. Computer B is a desktop running Windows 7 Home Premium. Computer C is a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. FIOS is connected to Computer A. A Network of all 3 computers and a Homegroup have been set up from Computer A.We use Office 2010, mostly Word 2010 for our word processing tasks.I realize that with a Homegroup, you can create a Word 2010 document on Computer A, save it to the default location (Libraries/Documents), then open that document on Computer B, make changes to it, save it to the default location, and then open that same document on Computer A, which will show the saved changes made on Computer B.I would like to know if a Word 2010 document can be created on Computer A, then be saved to a specific folder - not a default saving location - on Computer B, so that the user on Computer B can modify the document, save it to a specific folder - not the default saving location - so that the user on Computer A can open the document from its specific folder and view the saved changes.Would this involve advanced sharing, or permissions, or some type of change on the network?
I installed a program the other day that messed with my Windows Explorer. Now no folder will remember it's View options (Large Icons, List, Details), they all reset to their default.
As you can see it's nothing to do with Libraries. Neither the 'Shell Fix' nor editing the registry at
I need to change my icon for my My Documents folder within my Users folderHowever, under the Customize tab, there is no 'Change Icon' button like I find for other folders (for example, those within the My Documents folder). The same is the case for any of the special User folders (My Pictures, My Videos, Downloads etc) - I haven't got the option of changing any of the icons.
I would like to set the default folder view to be set to details, and control panel view set to small icons. I would like this set for the default user profile. What the relevant registry entries are ?

Main computer is the office computer. Its a desktop that a person is constantly on and doing stuff. There are 3 others that need the same information and documents at any given time. These 3 people have their laptops that are constantly switching wifi hotspots. They need to change information sometimes, and need access to all of it any time. The way its setup now is 1 person is on the main computer, but when one of the three need to access it, they remotely log in and take control. Only one person can access the computer at a time. How do I set it up so all four of these people can access and change the files at the same time if they want? The main computer is being used constantly, but someone always needs a document or file while the main person is working on it. So it slows production when someone logs in.
