Reading Win32 CD On Win64 Machine

Sep 16, 2011

I am having a problem reading some CDs on my Win7 64 bit machine. On the ones which don't work the properties window shows it as empty and the disk checker says it is not formatted.. The program CDCheck says that the CD has Win32 type file system, and that this is not recognized by my system.

Is there any way of getting my system to read the Win32 file system CD?

Win32 Cycbot KI Infections Detected By Avast

Sep 25, 2011

On an avast scan it is detected 3 different win32:cycbot-KI infections. Two of the infections are in the sys\wow64\kernel32.dll (emul) and the third is in the sys\winsxs folder. I am unable to get avast to quarantine them and receive the message "error: virus chest server is not running" whenever I try to quarantine. I tried doing a boot scan but it was very slow and I received hundreds of error 0x80000006 (no more files) messages which I either quarantined or ignored (it prompted me for each one). I'm not sure that the boot scan did anything because after I ran it I still saw the 3 cycbot infections.

BSOD Streaming Online Video Hulu Plus Win32.sys

Mar 7, 2012

I get a BSOD/STOP error when streaming Hulu. The BSOD will appear after streaming roughly 10 minutes of video, then the system is set to restart so it will restart. After prompting safe mode etc. it will start as normal and we will be able to watch a video on Hulu plus all the way through with no errors [code] I moved files from an XP machine to this system using an external hard drive and Windows easy move (inbuilt Windows 7 wizard). I have used Lenovo's One Key recovery to recover the system but the BSOD still appears after a successful run. I do not remember if the BSOD occurred after the file move or right out of the box but I suspect that it was due to the file move. My IT guy at work has recommended a full system restore. I suppose I can search for a thread that explains such a procedure but wanted to know if a more knowledgeable person could come up with a different fix.In addition , and maybe related I cannot complete an update using Windows Update. I can download the updates just fine. But when it comes to applying them, the system will begin applying the updates with the progress bar, but after 2 minutes, I will receive a fail message everytime.

Installing Language Software / Sidebyside Error Or D / Not A Vald Win32

Sep 11, 2011

So I was installing a language software today and I managed to get it loaded, however I had to restart my computer to an earier date for other reasons so I had to re-install the language software. Upon re-installing the language software I recieved a message stating "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail."However, when I try to open the sxstrace a little black screen flashes on my computer for a split second and then disappears but won't bring it up.I vied my event logs and I see two different errors for the side by side. The first is event ID 33 and says activation context generation failed for C:/windows/installer/{67E03279-F703-408F-B4BF-46B5FC8D70CD}/WksWP.exe" Dependent Assembly msadctls, processor Architecture= 'x86", type="Win32", version="1.0.1801.0" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.the second one is event id 59 and says activation context generation failed for "D:/setup.exe" error in manifest or policy file "D:/setup.exe" on line 0. "not Valid Win32 Application" Error?

Mar 24, 2011

Installing applications, including ones that say they are Win 7 compatible, I get "not valid win32 application". Letting the system adjust compatibility does no good.I got Visual Studio 2005 installed with a banner at the end about "compatibility issues", and then got that error on all attempts to update. I've erased that and have ordered VS2010. Instrument drivers that a client will need also give me that error, even though they are supposed to be good for Win 7.This is my first Win 7 machine, have stayed with Win XP Pro up to now. My client is going to need Win 7. I hate to force him to go back to Win XP mode

"application" Can't Be Run In Win32 Mode"

Jan 3, 2012

I'm trying to run VIPRERESCUE to check for rootkit virus's, but when I dbl click on the application, I get a pop up saying "application can't be run in Win32 mode." I'm using a system that is loaded with the 64 bit version of Win 7 Home Premium.

I have run this successfully in the past (don't remember how long ago) and was able to get it to run without any problems. So I know that something is different, but not what it is - I don't know who to even set a pc in win32 mode.

All of my scans with: Norton and Malwarebytes claim my system is clean. I've also run Microsoft's safety scanner, and ESET's online scanner with the same result.

What win32 mode is, (I assume it's a setting to run legacy software) and how to set it and disable it

Can't Open A Shared File On A Windows 7 Machine If It's Already Open On An XP?

Jan 23, 2012

I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine.
