Letting the system adjust compatibility does no good.I got Visual Studio 2005 installed with a banner at the end about "compatibility issues", and then got that error on all attempts to update. I've erased that and have ordered VS2010. Instrument drivers that a client will need also give me that error, even though they are supposed to be good for Win 7.This is my first Win 7 machine, have stayed with Win XP Pro up to now. Nov 16, 2009I just discovered my DVD/CD drive is not working when I attempted to launch the windows 7 iso file 64bit.
So I used isobuster to extract the files to an external harddrive ( over 300 gig). However when I try to run the setup.exe file, I get the message "setup.exe is not a valid win32 app" - not sure why? My pc has 4 gig RAM and has AMD Athlon 64 processor?

Jan 3, 2012I'm trying to run VIPRERESCUE to check for rootkit virus's, but when I dbl click on the application, I get a pop up saying "application can't be run in Win32 mode." I'm using a system that is loaded with the 64 bit version of Win 7 Home Premium.
I have run this successfully in the past (don't remember how long ago) and was able to get it to run without any problems. So I know that something is different, but not what it is - I don't know who to even set a pc in win32 mode.
All of my scans with: Norton and Malwarebytes claim my system is clean. I've also run Microsoft's safety scanner, and ESET's online scanner with the same result.
What win32 mode is, (I assume it's a setting to run legacy software) and how to set it and disable it

Nov 28, 2011Sometimes if I open a file by double clicking it in windows explorer, it will sit doing nothing (and that explorer window is then tied up) for a few minutes! Then the file opens normally in the correct application. But opening the application first, and getting it from the file open menu, or dragging the file into the open application is ok. The problem goes away if I reboot windows, but can come back again later for no apparent reason.

Jan 30, 2012Shortly after installing a theme (I can not remember as I can't get into the file system) which is as far as I can see a perfectly legitimate theme (recommended by a user from overclock.net) explorer.exe hasn't worked. I installed it, it asked me to restart explorer.exe by pressing the button. I got the error that it could not start. Itrecommended that I restart the computer before all changes take place. I assumed that I had to restart the computer for Explorer.EXE to work. It did not. At startup, the following happened and now does every time I start it up: (A note, sorry for the low quality photo's, I'm letting someone using my DSLR as they're on holidays.)Everything goes seemingly normal in the BIOS.FYI, the debug code on the motherboard is AA so all is fine according to the debug code.Just before Windows logs me in (just after the Windows logo at boot) there is a blacks screen displayed for a significant amount of time. Oct 26, 2011Our office has an old program that we still need to use when upgrading our PC's to Windows 7. The program will run fine if you start a windows virtual PC and install and run it. However, based on the needs of our office, I need to be able to run Windows XP mode and simply have an icon for our users to click to take them to the application.If I install the program in windows XP mode, and then add a shortcut to the file under all users/start menu, a shortcut is placed in the appropriate place on the windows 7 machine and I can copy that shortcut ot the desktop. The program runs fine until you restart the computer. Once you restart the computer and double click the link on the windows 7 desktop to the program running in windows XP mode, it says:
Cannot start virtual application. The application is blocked from running as a virtual application.
I read some other posts saying to put a new shortcut in the all users/start menu folder. This works, but only until our users restart their computer. The next time the computer is up, the problem happens again. This is not an acceptable solution to have to create a new shortcut for each workstation each time the computer is restarted.
