I am running a StudioXPS 1640 on Windows 7 Professional 64bit. The computer had a BSOD after I attempted to end the Steam process. Since then, the BIOS boot splash will come up but occasionally hang there. When it does not hang, windows will not start. I tried boot from both the install and recovery disks, but after loading the windows files all I get is a blank black screen. after about 10 minutes a mouse cursor shows up and can be moved but nothing else happens. Tried right-clicking and nothing happened. Also cannot access task manager
I have Unallocated space at the very end of my hard drive, even after the 25gb Recovery Partition, this is due to copying my old hard drive onto this new one via Clonezilla, and it automatically keeping the unallocated space at the end. Can I either move the unallocated space around the Recovery Partition, or delete the Recovery Partition altogether? Sorry if I am being a little unclear.
I've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows. However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore. It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.
is not empty - it is almost 80% full but when i click on it there are no files. Tried - to the extent of my knowledge - to see if the files are hidden but didn't reach anywhere. Tried a restore point but that didnt work either.
I installed TurboTax using a cd - it installed okay, but when I tried to launch I got this message:I connected with TurboTax support and they walked me through downloading the software from their website. Again when I tried to launch, I got the same message.I then installed the software on my Windows Vista laptop using the cd - it installed perfectly and launched without a problem.
I stayed at a hotel this weekend in Nashville and used the hotel's internet connection. While at the hotel, they had a welcome page that said, "Welcome to Nashville" where you would agree to the terms and conditions before browsing the Internet. Now that I am back home, whenever I initially launch IE9, the first tab that comes up has a title of "Welcome to Nashville"It sits there for 20-30 seconds, presumably searching for the hotel proxy. Then, it gives up and Google--which is my normal home page--launches normally. From that point forward, everything works fine until the next time I open my browser.I've already checked my proxy settings, and there was nothing added there. No errors appear whatsoever, just that initial tab name.
on my windows 7 Acer aspire laptop I have recently been having issues when trying to launch anything. After my computer has fully loaded up, I cannot launch anything or use the internet. This includes when trying to launch MS office, chrome, internet explorer, games, adobe and so on. The only way I can launch anything is either in safe mode, or if I quickly open the program as soon as my computer opens to desktop. I can then run the program for approximately 2 mins before it freezes, shuts me out and then doesn't let me reopen.I have tried to do a Norton virus scan, although it seems to be getting stuck on detecting tracking cookies.(Not sure if this is a result of any virus I have or something else).
I want to add My Docs to the Quick Launch bar but it refuses to go. I only get the option to add to Windows Explorer which I don't want. I'd like to see my customised containing folder on the Quick Launch instead of the basic brown folder.
I've tried a few of the options suggested elsewhere in the Forum but they didn't work as I'd like.
I won't go into details for my asinine behavior in running a cleanup that deleted many important files. I can't even recall the program I used because it was a while later that I realized the mess I'd created...Anyway I have been reinstalling/updating programs for several days and am left with two big glitches.First, I no longer can launch IE. I actually use Firefox but need IE for my work site. I have uninstalled it from Windows update several times and reinstalled without success. I then had the idea to download and install Explorer 8. I figured I could then upgrade. Unable to install that as it was apparently "unsupported"by Windows 7 (32 bit).
I have added the quick launch to the taskbar on 1 pc but on the second one when I click on toolbars - new toolbar it opens with Libraries showing and I cannot get rid of it to insert the text for the quick launch bar. Does anyone know how to get it to open without the libraries bar showing?
my friends use Windows 7 and IE 9, but it only works right for them from the administrator's account. From a normal user's account clicking the link in IE 9 would open up the link in a new tab (as normal) and launch the Sopcast software, but would not tune it to the right channel.Under the administrator's account it did initially require 2 or 3 permissions, but as the regular user it doesn't even ask.I tried changing the regular user account to an administrator and reinstalling the software by the new admin, but it still did not work and did not even pop the permissions.Only lowering the UAC all the way to 0 made it work, but upping it again even one notch disabled things again. It never asked for any permissions, like it did under the other account.I searched and found others with somewhat similar issues, but no direct solution.I guess Windows 7 blocks it for the regular user, but how can I authorize it? Make it ask me?Should it have been working or is it something generally blocked, on purpose?
Right when i try and run world of warcraft a message pops up saying this [ Launcher requires write permission to the World of Warcraft Registry key to successfully locate and run the game. enable write access to the Registry key using an adminstrator account ] I'm the only user of this computer and i'm adminstrator, i have tried right clicking the desktop launcher and run as adminstrator but still get the same message, also been into the wow folder and changed the launcher there to run as adminstrator and the wow.axe folder..still get the same message.#
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. Following a recent restart, windows would load to a white desktop (or black in safemode) and a missing taskbar. The desktop, apart from being completely white, can't be interacted with (no drag and pull boxes). The taskbar is gone and the windows key won't bring up the start menu.I can still access the task manager and have used that to navigate through my documents and to access my web browser (hence my being here now). Because I can still access and run everything through the task manager and command window, I haven't lost any utility, but I'd like my taskbar and desktop back.
I regularly use my acer aspire 5552 ati 4250. I have norton antivirus installed but somehow more over I have a virus. It takes approximately 45 minutes for the laptop to go to the start up page, but there is no text. When it loads up to a stage I can put on the Internet I can input text into google but again, this takes a long period of time. When I press (e.g.) ALT + F the tiniest of drop down bar appears and I cannot access anything on there, this happens with anything related to right clicking to using shortcuts as things are not viewable.
Furthermore, the laptop is in safe mode at the moment and I cannot access windows or due to the fact I cannot access drop down menus or control panels as there is no text
This is my second day with Windows 7 and I'm very impressed with it. With Vista, I had the 'My ISP' icon in the Quick Launch bar which was very handy. Now that I've managed to enable the Windows 7 Quick Launch, can anyone tell me how to put the My ISP icon there so that I can connect with just one click as with Vista?
My laptop (Sony Vaio / Win 7 Pro 64 bit) began playing up a couple of months ago, occasionally clicking on an icon (eg Firefox, Outlook...) in the taskbar (or from the start menu as well) failed to launch the program. The 'cursor wheel' would spin but then a few seconds later...nothing. A reboot generally fixed it. Over the past couple of months this has got much worse, to the point where now nothing will launch and a reboot doesn't fix it. In safe mode, all appears to be OK. I am working in safe mode now. I tried sfc /scannow. No problems reported I have run virus scans with: G Data, SAS, MBAM, MSE, Spybot. No malware reported. Before I surrender & reinstall Windows, In the event viewer there are a shedload of errors of various types -typically relating to (1) inability to pick up an IP froDHCP server or (2) Microsoft Security Client OOBE stopped. Dunno if they are relevant or just normal running.
AVG stopped a program DWU.EXE from loading but since then I can not launch apps via the desktop or by directly clicking them unless I right click and load as admin. All virus scans (AVG, Windows malicious virus remover tool and Ad Aware) come out clean.Do not want to reload Win7 or restore if I don't have to
When my computer starts up it goes directly to a black screen with 2 options. 1st is recommended-launch statup repair(may not be worded right, and 2nd is start windows normally. Windows tries to start up normally, fails and returns to this screen. I have done the repair multiple times but it says nothing is wrong. It does say an external device may be causing the problem but nothing id connected. I have tried all the options. It will not go to a previous point. When I attempt to return to factory settings it says a program is trying to end in an unexpected way and will not prodeed.
In my webroot Secure Anywhere program I keep getting w32.bamital.gen it wont seem to leave when I delete it from there. I decided to download MalwareMalbytes I ran it, deleted or whatever, what it said was bad. I rebooted, and now when I pin My Computer or anything there like my documents, etc. It says It may have been deleted removed or renamed; however I can still open it by holding windows key hitting e. Also from start menu.
I can't open any programs in Windows 7 from my HP laptop. I can't get online or launch .exe files. When I try to open anything, I get the spinning circle by the cursor but then nothing happens and it disappears. So it looks as though it's about to launch a program then doesn't. The IT guy at work told me to download Malwarebytes and run it but the same thing happens - I click on it and get the little spinning circle then it just goes away. And everything I read online says to download this program or that program but I can't even get online to do that. I've tried to do all of this in Safe Mode (Networking), also. Same thing - acts like it's about to launch then nothing.
I am running a 32 bit version of 7 Home Prem. For some reason WMP is not launching from the its icons on the task bar or in the start menu, nor by trying to open a WMV file.
Ok hope someone can figure out what is going on with my system, I have a very odd issue when i first boot my system I am unable to open any 32bit applications when observing task manager the process opens and closes imediatly with no error. If i warm reboot the machine and log back they start to work.
I'm trying to install a computer game but when I open up InstallShield, an error message comes up saying: "InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be launchedInterface not recognized." I've contacted the game company but they said it's a problem with my computer. This has happened with multiple games by the same company and I don't know what to do. Why is this doing this? Is there anything I can do to solve this problem?
Running Windows 7 Profesional SP1 64bit, I have an SSD system drive at C: and a hard drive installed as D:. No firewall or a/v software running on the system. Logged in as an admin.
When I click the shortcut at Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter, nothing happens. Same thing if I click 'Defragment now...' from D: drive properties > Tools.
Shouldn't I see some type of user dialog box? The program linked to is called dfrgui.exe, so I expect there should be some kind of GUI.
The icons in the quick-launch bar (or whatever it's called now, since it works differently after all) frequently change image. For the first few days it was all normal, then the WMP and IE(32-bit) icons swapped image, and now the WMP image has turned into my C drive's image (and IE(32-bit)'s back to normal. The 64-bit icon hasn't changed yet, by the way). They still work normally though. How to stop them from switching image?Interestingly, this also happened on Windows XP (which was 32-bit, not the 64-bit unlike this Windows 7). However, this is a different HD, so it's definitely not a HD issue (well, unless both happen to have the same problem, but what's the chance?).
