It says that my Browser Companion Helper has crashed. And also I cannot access my folders Desktop, Download and RecentPlaces (c/o Favorites). It says This file does not have a program associated with it performing this action.Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.

If I clicked "Enable", nothing would happen. First of all, what exactly is this add-on? Is it necessary to enable? If it is, how do I enable it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy biggest (albeit minor) complaint with IE9 is that 'locking' the Favorites window to its position on the left side of the browser has become somewhat tedious. Most know, but in IE8, the 'star' was on the tool bar above the left side browser, making it easy to click the star, click the 'lock' arrow and drag links from the address bar to whatever Favorites folder was desired.Now, one must click on the right side, click the lock arrow and then move the mouse to the left side to access. Much less efficient, IMO.Is anyone aware of a shortcut that makes this process easier? I know Alt+C will make the window appear, but ideally, I'd like to move the Star icon back to the left side.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just reformatted my computer and installed Windows 7 64bit. I can access the internet just fine on Google Chrome. I can download at the fastest speed my connection will allow. Some programs, 2 in particular, won't allow connections but others will. Examples are: Ventrilo, and PlayOnline will access the internet, but GSC and Final Fantasy XI will not allow connections. I've gone through the router and opened ports for them, disabled UAC and windows firewall. I do not have any other firewall or virus scanner installed yet as they interfered on previous systems setting up my commonly used programs. I've also tried running the programs as administrator to no avail.

Receive msg that "Internet Explorer cannot display ..."There is also a problem in a web page from letsplaychess.com in that the chess board does not display. I have un/reinstalled my AV (KIS 2012) and uninstalled IE9. Both IE8 & 9 have same problem. Other computers running Vista and XP do not have these problems.

I can ping Google etc without any problem. There are another two PCs behind my router and they have no problem. The problematic PC has no problem accessing files intranet, remote desktop, ftp. I tried toggling DHCP, changing IPs, Firewalls, no luck.

Now, I had Vista, which this speakers worked on fine. Switched to Windows 7, because I hated Vista's slow Windows Explorer loading, and the speakers don't work. After being plugged in, they are "Unknown Device"s.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOk so my computer was running sluggish before it eventually totally froze up. I reset the laptop (dell inspiron duo) and now everytime after going through dell screen/bios it tells me that "windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change may be the cause" or something like that and gives me the option to load either run windows normally or launch startup repair.No matter which option I choose I get windows is loading files and a White loading bar at the bottom of the page. Once this is complete the Microsoft green loading bar, no logo, will run through once before taking me to a blue screen which appears to be some kind of back ground. There's a dove carrying a branch and some White lines/lighting effects. This isn't my home screen and all that I can do is move the cursor around.
Nothing else happens and there is none of the usual start up behaviour.As far as I am aware there is no malware and the only new software that has been installed was the drivers to use an xbox controller with the pc via plug and play which was around 12 hours ago and the machine has since been turned on and off without problem up until now.
HP Pavilion laptop purchased in June 2011 - still under a 2 year warranty, but would prefer to resolve this myself if at all possible.In the last few days I've started experiencing some BSOD issues, which got particularly acute late night...constant BSODing as well as just system freeze ups. I ran Avast antivirus scan, as well as a MalwareBytes scan and the Housecall scan. I used CCleaner, downloaded what windows updates my computer said were available. Was going to try to defrag but it crashed again. It seems to be random. It mostly happens when i open a file or a folder, right click on something or do anything involving explorer.I tried to do a system restore but didn't fix it. as the title says, I was just talking with some friends on skype and then the computer froze like when it's going to give you a BSOD but instead of that it just froze, so I turned it off and now the computer won't even show BIOS menu. RAMs are fine, they were tested by the retailers for 48 hours with memtest and tested by me for 24 hours (when the computer used to work).So to give you a clearly idea of what's happening, I press the power on button, there's a beep and the computer starts, right? my pc powers up but it never beeps, the CD/DVD reader works, the processor starts up, but it's just stuck there. I checked on the motherboard's user guide and it doesn't say anything about "not beeping"

So I boot it up, i get to the repair page, and i hit reformat. I Tell him to call me back when it's done. Apparently, his laptop did not have enough battery left so It died during the recovery. Now I believe the harddrive is completely empty. Where could I acquire a legal copy of windows (the OEM serial key is under the laptop on a sticker). I found an ISO File on microsoft's website. It came in and I installed the Western Digital Hard Drive. here was no problem in installing the hard drive. After installing I checked the Bios and the drive was recognized.I had ordered from Acer a set of Recovery CDs which I used today to recover Windows. All went well and I had the system up and running. There were a 109 Windows updates that I started. Went in the other room and came back in about a half an hour and the laptop was dead. I went into Bios and no drive was recognized.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got my first computer in place i installed win 7 on it and everything went smooth, but then i realized i had by misstake installed the 32bit version..so i checked the SSD, which is the only kind of storage drive i have right now, and for some reason the installation had made an partition called system drive or something on 100mb. the stupid thing is that it was nothing on it?? windows was still on C:? anyway , after many minutes of thinking i decided to just reinstall windows over the old one and so i did. it runned smooth and went perfect, i checked the preferences of my computer and as planned i now had the 64 bit version but 30Gb was lost on my SSD? i discovered that the old windows was still there, in the windows.old folder... i didnt think about much so i'd just pressed delete...

Computer threw out a bunch of weird language and then said crash and shut down. Now it doesn't really boot or reboot. I have to pull the battery to get it to restart and I get the HP logo when I put the battery back in and it takes me to a Windows Errory Recovery screen with two options: Launch Repair or Launch normally. Neither one of them does anything. I just get the blue screen.
I've tried the f8 key and the f10 key and can't seem to get to any other screen. I put the restore disk into the CD rom drive and I don't think it's accessing it at all.
It is an HP Pavilion dv7-4087cl with an Intel Core i5-430M processor and its running Windows 7 Home Premium OA 64 bit.
