Can't Get Computer To Boot / Not Allow To Enter BIOS - Windows 7 64bit
Dec 28, 2011
My friend recently gave me his HP desktop to take a look at. It came with phenom II quad core processor, 8gb of ddr3 ram, a 1.0 TB WD sata hdd, an integrated geforce nvidia 9100 graphics card, and a 300W psu. When I first turned it on, it booted up to the HP logo and froze there not allowing me to enter the BIOS. After resetting the BIOS I was able to get a slight way into the Windows 7 installation. I tried hooking up the hdd as an external to another desktop and it seemed to be working fine.
I deleted all partitions and reformatted it and tried again, same issue. I've tried with a second hard drive, which i know works, and it also gave the same freezing problem. I've also tried using a different psu which got me a little further into the installation but eventually froze and gave me 0x00000e9 hardware error. With no hard drive at all, it can boot a few times but will eventually freeze up at the logo screen, which led me to believe it might be an overheating problem.
I applied thermal paste to both the cpu and gpu heatsinks and on the first boot it froze during installation with the next few resulting in the same logo screen freeze. I've also realized the gpu heatsink is extremely hot to the touch and at one point, after numerous reboots, the display wouldn't even show. I don't wanna jump to the conclusion that the gpu is fried and buy a new motherboard without consulting anyone.

I've changed my MOBO to Gigabyte.. for some reason, when i tried to enter into BIOS, it doesn't. I cud see "press DEL to enter setup" message... This screen is only up for two seconds before it flashes to the POST screen which then flashes into a screen that says "Loading Operating System". Then it loaded my OS.. Then i restarted my computer and tried to enter into BIOS again... This time I entered into BIOS.. Sometimes, it is not entering into BIOS (as I've pressed DEL so many times before the BIOS entry msg)..

I have the above motherboard. I have been using a video card which is three years old and thought I would try out the integrated video before my video card died. I switched it in the Bios and switched the monitor cable and it started fine on integrated video. The only thing is that the first screen where I can enter Bios does not show, so I am unable to enter the Bios. I tried hitting the delete button on the blank screen but nothing happens. I was able to shut down the PC and switch back to the video card, so I am OK. Does anyone have any idea why the first screen doesn't show on integrated?

When I built this computer back in the dark ages of 2007, I set it up to dual-boot Vista and XP. Every time I powered on, I'd get a prompt to boot into Vista or "older version of Windows," meaning XP. I'd pick one and go on my merry way. In 2011, I formatted the Vista drive, installed Windows 7, and deleted the XP install since I had XP mode in 7 if I needed compatibility. No more dual-boot prompt. I had no issues until last night, when I went shopping for a new hard drive. My motherboard, a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L, was running an old BIOS that has problems with drives of 1 TB or more. So in order to be sure I could use the drive I'm buying, I updated the BIOS to the latest revision, using Gigabyte's @BIOS utility to do it in-OS rather than through the boot menu.
When I rebooted, the system POSTed fine. But instead of booting Windows, it gave me the old choice between Vista or the "older version of Windows" - despite neither of those operating systems being present. If I tell the boot manager to do anything, it spits out an error since it can't find any OS files it recognizes. The BIOS itself seems to be fine - I'm writing this on the affected computer, running Ubuntu with a Live CD. I can see all the hard drives, open files, etc. I just don't know how to get the boot manager pointed at Windows 7 again.

So my computer went into sleep mode.... its really hit or miss with this computer so when I finally get it back up and running, I will completely disable sleep mode.Sometimes i can click the mouse and it wakes up with no problem, but sometimes it would reboot on its own and just keep trying to boot and restart.... continuous boot loop.... so when i want to remedy this, I just clear the cmos by unplugging the power supply and disconnecting the cmos battery.... it always worked I tried to pull the battery and left it out for 60 minutes.. popped it back in and it won't let me get into bios. None of my keyboards will light up for me to hit delete to get into bios.... not even my PS2 keyboard.... it will just continue to turn on, and show the logo screen telling me to hit various keys for various functions and then it will reboot on its own and it will just continue to do this and will not let me hit a key to get into the BIOS screens

I usually consider myself having some idea about computers but this things is out of my league. [code] My computer has been getting BSOD'S for several days after installing java 7 update 8.I somehow managed to get system back on it's track for few times with cd/usb booting but now, when i start it i just get a black screen no beeps at all and back, gpu and cpu fans are working on max.Tried reseting bios with clr cmos button and taking the bios battery out but nothing helps.I thought it could be hardware error and as there was black screen i suspected the gpu which was making problems before the fan came off so I replaced it with accelero l2 pro.I don't think it's the mobo problem because when i remove both ram sticks i get like 8 beeps until it restarts and everything repeats. But on the other hand how could it be hardware problem if comp autorecovered bios.I also thought about flashing the bios but the boot is set to floppy so i am not sure how would that work out.

I currently do not have any internal optical drive, but I do have a USB optical drive instead. Would it be possible to boot up Windows 7 from the external drive in the UEFI Bios? This is for a new computer without a formatted hard drive, if it helps.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. A while ago I started to have problems with the clock time. So I started searching for answers on Google. Every topic referred to Cmos battery but I doubt it to be Cmos battery fault for one reason: My Laptop Emachine eMe442 is for like a month or more plugged in to the wall socket so in my opinion Cmos battery wouldn't be needed in idle mode or when pc is switched off to keep track of time. Right? Anyway, I been reading a topic on this site on same problem and there was proposed to check Bios time. Bios time seems to me is not working, or not even counting. So normally this started new question. Here they are:
1) Does Cmos battery keeps time running when in idle mode or pc is off, even if pc is plugged into the charger?
2) Whats the problem here, why my pc don't keep track of time?
3)How do I fix whatever is wrong with my Bios time?
Even when I switch on my pc, if I don't click on clock it doesn't start counting, and after I click on clock and synchronize with one of default servers after awhile it starts losing time.

I came across a term, BIOS, and was wondering what it was. After doing some research, I found out that I have a very old BIOS,American Megatrends Inc. 6.02 7/21/2010. I am intereted in playing video games after I updated my Power Supply and Graphics Card. The games I play are becoming slower than a few weeks ago. I was wondering if I should update my BIOS. I followed the guide from: Updating the BIOS When I tried searching for an update, I could not find a BIOS tab. I read somewhere that I should not attempt to update my BIOS if there is no such tab. I would really like to improve my computer, but I do not know how. I have also read that I should not find updates from the "motherboard manufacturer's Web site," incase something goes wrong. What should I do?

I have an Acer Extensa 5620 laptop, which came with an Intel Core 2 Duo Merom T5250 processor (1.5GHz). I'm upgrading the CPU to a Core 2 Duo Penryn T8300 (2.4GHz). Did a bit of research beforehand to determine that my mothorboard supports it, and it does, but only if I upgrade my BIOS (PhoenixBIOS) from version 1.16 to 1.23 or later. So I downloaded the most recent version from Acer's website (Acer Europe - Service & Support, Drivers & Utilities, Downloads, Notebook, Extensa 5620), and got a .zip file containing the following files:
ACERACDC.EXE
CLB-135.bat
CLB-135.ROM
CLB-135.WPH
HFB135US.bld
phlash16.exe
[code]....
It seems there are several options in this download for flashing ones BIOS. The simplest one, from a bit of googling seems to be to run CLB-135.EXE as administrator from within windows. Before I do this though, I want to know if I've got everything right, since a failed flashing could brick my laptop. One thing that sets off alarm bells is that doing it this way uses the winflash32 utility. Although my laptop came with 32 bit Vista, I'm currently using 64 bit Windows 7. My question is: will this work? Or will I need to track down winflash64? Or, is this a terrible way to flash my BIOS and should I do something else completely?

I have a PC that I use as a media center attached to my TV running Windows 7 RC and it worked perfectly until about a week ago when I upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 and placed them both in the same Homegroup. Every since then the Media Center will not enter standby mode either automatically, after 10 minutes as configured or from the MC remote control. To get it to enter standby I have to select "sleep" from the WMC "tasks" menu.
As it only happened since creating the Homegroup I am assuming it is something to do with that, but I may be wrong. The MC PC is set to the "Balanced" power profile.
Any ideas?

I can manual enter sleep mode and it seems to work fine. Though I have had problems with it immediately waking up in the past, but I did manage to some how resolve that issue. However now, it will not automatically enter sleep mode. I've tried everything, I've read every article, I've changed all my settings and configured them to allow my computer to sleep. I'm not in a homegroup, went as far as locking all my folders to not share with anyone. I used the command prompt and typed: powercfg -requests and it dislpays this: FileSystemsrvnet and active remote client has recently sent requests to this machine. I tried disabling the internet from the computer, still not sleeping. Tried requestoverride command by entering: powercfg -requestsoverride FileSystemsrvnet the result is: An unexpected error condition has occurred. Unable to perform operation. You may not have permission to perform this operation.Yes, I am running cmd as administrator.

Pretty much what happened is that my powersupply got messed up one day and just turned off my computer and I couldn't boot it back up. I ordered a new PSU and I installed it but now when I boot my computer I'm getting "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". I've tried putting in the installation disc and using the recovery options but my OS isn't listed/found and if I click load drivers I can clearly see both of my hard drives. I have already checked boot options as well. I was also using GRUB before this all happened as well because I installed ubuntu as a dualboot.

I left my laptop running for a while when i left the room. When I came back it had frozen, I hadn't been doing anything untoward, I had been running a few programs at once, just like firefox and word. Anyway I had to turn it off with the power button. Then when I tried turning it back on I was able to log in but there was no desktop, just a black screen, same thing when I used safe mode. Now whenever I turn it on it goes to a disc check and when it gets to a certain number it says its unreadable and safe search just plain doesn't work. I'm gonna lose all my files. So is there anyway I could do a restore to factory settings (restoring to another time also didn't work)
