View 3 Replies View RelatedI have created a test domain with one server (windows server 2008r2) running active directory and dns, and one client that is in the domain(windows 7 enterprise) I have created a new user, John Andrews, and added him to the Domain Admin [Global Group] and then Domain Admin's is a member of Administrators [Domain Local Group]. url...Now my understanding was that you in theory use the Global Groups for users, and the Domain Local groups for resources. So for example if your usinging the built in groups, you would assign your Admin users to the Domain Admins global group, and then any folder or object that had the Administrators domain local group in it's permissions, would be accessable to your Admins users, because Domain Admins is a member of the domain local group Administrators. On the server, while logged in as John Andrews I then created a new 10GB partition, H:, to make as a file share. The permissions of this partition have the Administrators domain local group as a member with Full Control. url...I then created a new folder in this partition called LanAdmin. The folder creates fine, but then when I try to open it, I get a dialog that I do not have permission. When I check the Security permissions, it again says that I do not have the administrative permission, however I can still hit continue to view the permissions. And in the security list is the Administrators domain local group with Full control selected. url...I do not understand why I do not have permissions to this folder, even as I just created it. Am I not correct about how a user in the global group has access to resources of a domain local group that the users global group is a member of?

I basically have changed the names of the login Everytime I goto Network..then click on BOB (let's just say that's my name), I see two things listed. Under Users.MY stupid cousin's name (STEVE) and then "public." When I try and change the folder's name to MY name (Bob), I always get this message:You need permission to perform this action You require permission from Administrators to make changes to this folder.I've already gone to control panel, User Accounts, changed the name to BOB and made it the Administrator.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe have a home network of 7 computers and have been using Win 7 Pro and Office 2010 Pro Plus together without error since about May until mid-summer when I began using MS Outlook. When I started using Outlook on my laptop it took over all user permissions on the network making me the administrator/owner. I don't know if Outlook is responsible. I am just making connections with the timing. Folders were shared that should not have been shared and the file system got mixed up. Files came up with strange attribute settings. It appears that my computer encrypted files that reside on other computers leaving other users unable to access them.
On the occasions that we have wiped my hard drive and others to fix the problem by starting over, everything seems fine until I start using MS Outlook again. It may be important to know that I am the only one that uses Outlook on the network. And, by the way, when I say start over, I mean that we wiped drives with various software such as DriveScrubber, and others, to no avail. Later, we used disk part and thought we had it licked, but NO. After that, we discovered how to delete the volume shadow copies, but it still comes back every time like a haunting or something.
We even bought brand new hard drives and installed them on all computers, bought a firewalled router, and carefully and meticulously reinstalled our software from disks making sure that everything was in order. We have isolated old files to eliminate the possibility of virus or malware. We have discussed the problem with the cable company and with Norton. I can accept the fact that I might have changed a setting unknowingly in the beginning, however, the problem will not go away after careful reinstallation and setup.
I'm running windows 7 ultimate and am trying to install some software off of a secure server at a remote location to my hard drive. The install fails every time because the my user account (an administrator) does not have full write permissions to the program files directory. I have tried taking ownership of the directory, but I don't have permission to change it from TrustedInstaller.
I turned on the built in administrator account and logged in through that, but there is no difference in permission level. When I attempt to change the permission level I get the following error dialog box: An error occurred while applying security information to:
C:Program Files (x86)
Access is denied
Then the following: Unable to save permission changes on Program Files (x86)Access is denied. I've been fighting with this for three days now and I consider myself pretty adept at typical windows bs. Yes, my UAC is set all the way down. That was the first thing I turned off. I also tried shutting down virus protection and firewalls to no avail. Any help here would be awesome since none of the posts I've been able to find say what to do when the admin can't take control from TrustedInstaller.
I have a problem with my uncle`s computer.. Recently, he was watching Netflix, and lost his internet connection, he said that his computer`s performance was slower than usual. I came over and checked his computer`s status, ran MalewareBytes, I found two items.. However, don`t think that this is the cause of the problem. It`s seems as if he cannot access parts of his computer, such as: Microsoft Management Counsel, Microsoft System Restore, etc. I cannot access the C: drive, or D: drive. They`re currently blank and do not allow access when clicked on. I would be more than happy to restore, but I can not use this option since there isn`t access to it. I cannot install Anti-Virus software, or uninstall programs, since there is no access to C.

WE have been able to do so by taking the SD card and shoving it into the computer but we can't do so with the lead which we prefer to do. It seems wrong that we can't do that! With lots of going into all jigging around into files and setting we keep getting the message, "Access is Denied". We have even got into security of the folder and put in "Authenticated Users". We have an Acer that was bought with Vista and then converted to Win 7.

I am trying to transfer all my old Windows XP based folders, files, music (itunes), pics etc etc stored on an external hard drive (buffalo mini station usb 3.0) to my new laptop that uses Windows 7. Only I am confronted time and again with these "access denied", "no permission" messages. I have adjusted security settings on some of the folders (on the external drive) to take ownership (which works) but surely you don't have to do this for every folder and all it's sub folders? This would take forever particularly on music folders as I have a lot i.e. each albumn is a folder. I just want to drag and drop my old folders from the external hard drive onto my new laptop using Explorer. I have even adjusted UAC settings down to lowest level, re-booted, but this does nothing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWith my Windows 7 residing on it's own on a new SSD drive, now I want to be able to fully access my 2nd drive, my old XP drive from the default Admin acct. created on Windows 7 initial install.
I can read from the 2nd HDD, copy to the new drive, but can't read / write, it just says I don't have permission.
My research so far reveals this TrustedInstaller does not give full blown permissions to a 2nd drive in a situation like this. I am thinking there has to be a way around this without having to be logged in as the built-in Admin always. I just haven't found it yet. It's rather confusing this security and file permissions. I ran into this problem with XP before when I took and switched out disks, and I just had to reset the permissions globally for the entire disk somehow.
I might log in again as the built-in admin and see if it gives me options to change settings for the acct. I think that is the way...
I have just added a SSD with a clean install of Windows 7 Pro 64 to my Dell XPS 630i.I designated the SSD as my C drive and kept the original 500GB HDD as a slave under XP Pro SP3 (as drive E) for use as data storage. The issue I am having is accessing those data files. I have administrator access (sole user) but I get an incorrect permissions message when I attempt to access any of the HDD files.

Have been researching this for two days and have tried Repair Your Computer options offered in Windows 7 and restating from numerous prior restore points with the same result. Before I go through a full system restore. Most of the possible solutions I came across in my research are not possible to try because of no access to Control Panel.

It seems that in the process I ended up locking it off completely. It now shows up simply as Local Disk - Unlabeled Volume 7, without displaying any information about it, and when I check its properties it shows no information about it,and the Security tab is missing. I tried to take ownership of it using take own from cmd, with administrative privileges enabled and UAC disabled. That gave me an access denied message. How I could access it, or reset the permissions? I'm using Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

I have turned on the Guest account, and I need to set program and folder access permissions. I have google'ed the way to set file and folder permissions, but I am having some difficulty with some of the things that I need.
For instance I need to:
-deny access (just deny listing the directory structure; can read & write so apps can work) to C:* , Control Panel, and a few other locations
If I try to deny dir listing for Guest on root C: , it gives me a couple warnings and will not set permissions for "program files, program files x86, windows" folders even though I am the admin. After those initial issues, it continues to set the permissions for all the rest of the files. If I log into the guest now, goto Computer and double click on C: , it now says "access denied", which is good but if I type in the address bar up top "C:users", it will goto that location; not display the access denied message. I am using the Home Premium edition so I cannot use the Group Policy Editor..
I just reformatted my C: partition running windows 7.All my data is on the D: partition.I took ownership of all the files in D: Their is one folder I still don't have permission to open the files inside which are graphics for a website I am creating..The error message I get is "Windows photo viewer can't open this picture because you don't have the correct permissions to access this file location".so I ran the command prompt as administrator located the folder in question are ran "takeown /R /D Y /F *"It has given me full control of the files and made me the owner but still the error message comes up.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy 15 year old son was trying to bypass Cyberpatrol and in the process of tring to change his account from an adminstrator to a standard user I've made things worse. I changed the administrator account in his name to a standard user account but there was no other administrator account on the PC other then something called CYBERPATROL_SERVICE which is an administrative account istalled automatically by Cyberpatrol. This was the first mistake. Then he guessed the password to Cyberpatrol and attemped to uninstall it...it only 'half' uninstalled it, leaving a real mess of error messages and no access to let me change anything. I can now neither reinstall cyberpatrol or unistall it, nor can I see a way to log back in as an administrator to effect any changes to put things right. Three emails to cyberpatrol have elicited no response so I'm coming to the conclusion the onlu way out is to reinstall Windows 7 and find a different web filtering program- is there any way to log back in a an administrator? I didnt delete the admin account, only changed it to a standard type. Then If I can get back in as a administrator how can I get rid of the unwanted Cyberpatrol?

My account is an administrator, and recently, I have been unable to do anything that requires that I be an administrator. Whenever I run an application that is set to Run as Administrator, an error box opens that says "The specified module could not be found" I can not access User Account Controls, the window just does not open, no error message. I can use applications that would normally display the error message in Safe Mode, but I still can't access things like User Account Controls.

So, as I have done many times with WinXP, I tried to copy a shortcut to the web page into the program's folder on the startup menu. I was rewarded with an access denied error. View 9 Replies View RelatedIn Win 7 Home Premium, I apparently did something wrong as I can no longer access the administrator account on my desktop. I am logged in as a guest and have tried just about everything suggested here. I have started in Safe Mode but can't access admin. I have used the installation disk to do a repair and used the activate command in the command prompt. I used the "enableadmin" mentioned on this site. Regardless of what I do here, when I restart I am back in Windows as a Guest. Even doing a system restore made no difference.
It would appear I have to do a clean install but before doing so thought I would ask to see if there is anything else
