CHKDSK Was Started On New Laptop / Is Harddrive Broken
Jan 9, 2013
Is my harddrive broken, although the computer is completely new? I have bought a new Lenovo Thinkpad x230 (with a traditional harddrive). The first thing I did was going to Windows Update to download the available updates for Windows 7 professional 64 bit. (There were some problems with the installation of the updates, but I could solve them with the help of information from internet. One of the update files had to be installed separately first, otherwise it would block the whole package of update files from installing.)During a reboot CHKDSK is started and gives me the message below.
- the disk has to be controlled for inconsequences
- takes away the damaged attribute post (128, "")
- takes away a couple of index posts
- CHKDSK restores some unindexed files to
What does this mean? Is my harddrive broken? Should I return it to the shop immediately? [code]
So its a Satellite C855-141,Toshiba. And the headphone plug worked, but now its broken. When I plug any headphones I hear a crack or just some sound, and then its gone. Also the speakers are off then, they dont let a beep out. So the laptop is getting the headphones signal but its not transferring any sound.
Found an old laptop in my attic last night, tried to boot it up but the operating system on it is corrupt (ie it won't boot up - stuck i in a loop and keep switching on and off), inserted my Windows 7 disk to try and install that but the disk drive seems to be broken too
I am running Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron 17R laptop. Inside the program "Dell Support Center" it tells me that BITS - Demand Started to Auto Started. I don't know what BITS is. It runs in the System Services. Should I disable the BITS?
Wanna start off by saying sorry if someone has already resolved this problem on another thread but I have read many and haven't found a problem that exactly matches mine.Ok here goes, I have a Dell Inspiron 1764 running on Windows 7 64 bit. I've had problems with this pc for months in that it suddenly lost masses of disk space and because of this I couldn't update any programs or even renew my McAfee which I gAfter some investigative work with help online I found that my 'My Music' and 'My Pictures' folders were located on the C drive and taking up a lot of space so I relocated these onto the D drive. This seemed to solve the problem, the C drive was clearer and everything was working fine, security checked for viruses and all seemed to be in order.
That lasted for about 4 days and then yesterday the laptop randomly crashed and then restarted and it appeared to be ok, I continued using with no problems and switched off as normal. I tried to boot on again last night only for it to hang on the Starting Windows screen, didn't even reach log in. It went to a black screen and then something else came up and asked if I wanted to Start Normally or in Safe Mode, I chose Safe Mode.Nothing happened for a while and then it went into CHKDSK but sat at 3% for about 2 hours saying loads of files were unreadable, it finally got to 30% after 6 hours but by then it was 1 in the morning I had to manually turn the pc off.I tried again this morning and had the same error but it automatically goes into CHKDSK, after about 5hrs it got to 55% and then went back to the Starting Windows screen, black screen and the CHKDSK again, this has happened 3 times now.
I've tried pressing F8 & F12 when first booting up and I've also inserted the Windows Installation Disk but this won't run. I gave up and switched off again, went through the same process but when it got to CHKDSK I pressed to cancel the check but it just sat there for 25mins and then asked me to choose Safe Mode etc, I choose SM again and it started to load files and has been sat at Loading Windows Files for the last 15 mins.
I spilt water on my laptop keyboard and now non of the keys work, i bought a wireless keyboard, but cant install it because i cant get past the logon screen.
Im trying to install new Windows 7 on HP Pavilion laptop but,Windows start the Windows installation again after finished installation process.-Disk is formated, no partitions (NTFS).boot priority settings: 1. CD/DVD drive
I have been starting to make voice overs for my videos recently using a Turtle Beach x11 headset and everything has been working ok. Suddenly whenever I start recording I get this like popping sound (like when you pop your ears) lasts for about 1-2 seconds and I dont know how to get rid of it. It also happens when recording with my inbuilt laptop mic.
New laptop with Win7 pre-installed. No Win7 CD. Laptop HDD came with separate recovery partition. Burnt recovery CD and backed up HDD to seperate USB HDD. Then laptop was dropped. Laptop won't boot past blank win7 desktop(with curser). Tried running HP recovery program from recovery CD but program says no recovery partition found and once again, will not boot past blank Win7 desktop. Can't get to chkdsk to run HDD fix.
With the Win7 stuff that I have, I can't get to any point where I can even determine if this laptop HDD is fixable? Is there a Win7 iso file that I can download to boot into Win7 so I can then run chkdsk and then access my backup original installation on my USB external HDD? If not, can I use one of my old original Win XP CDs to boot the laptop, run chkdsk or maybe even reformat the drive NTFS, and then install my backup Win7 setup from the external USB HDD over the now XP installed HDD?
so my girlfriends laptop yesterday had a windows update. after it reboted, it would come to the windows boot manager screen saying 0xc00000e9, a unexpected i/o error. apperantly she dropped it a few weeks ago. but i wasnt sure that had anything to do with it. so i went and checked and removed and rehooked up all the drives and hdd. and i noticed one of the ram chips wasnt locked in anymore. so i relocked that too. and to no avail. i cant get into safe mode, or anything else. i made a recovery disk with my laptop, running 7 ultimate 64 bit. i get it to load up to the point where it says chose your country ( for the keyboard i guess) and it just sits there with a mouse pointer on the screen and nothing else. for about 20 mins i let it sit and nothing happened. i rean a seagate hdd diag tool. and that wouldnt run past 2% without errors. so i am not sure at all what to do. or what real damage is done to the HDD, and since i cant get into checkdisk i cant find out either.
i was on my laptop and it randomly turned black and acted like i shut the lid so basically it went into sleep mode. so i had to close the lid and then open it again to make it turn back on. so after it started working again it started acting pretty strangely i already went into full details on this Internet video by recording it then using the annotations so.
Internet - whats wrong and don't say its a virus 100% sure its not a virus. for the others that dont want to watch the video its basically really glitching i can't click my bookmark page in google chrome i cant grab the scroll bar in ie and the start menu is super glitchy it seems like the code or something is messed up. it goes away sporadically too.
I know about trick of renaming regedit.exe to regedit.com from the command line. But that works only when the .com association is NOT broken. What do I do when BOTH are broken?
I have a compaq cq56-115dx latop, and looking for some input on a problem I have. I attempted to upgrage my ram from 2 gb to 5gb. The 4 gb chip went in ok on the bottom slot, however, when placing second 1 gb chip, I accidentally broke the levers. Since it was now broken I decided, to see what would happen if I gently replaced cover, to hold chip in place, ad screwed cover on firmly. Turned on laptop, and all is working fine, including all 5 gb memory is available. My question is should I leave it the way it is, or should I have it fixed properly. FYI the cover over the chip is vented.
I was talking to some friends over skype when i needed to log out and my mic was fine there were no problems with it. i logged out and when i logged back in and called a friend up on skype he could not hear me talking the only thing he could hear was a loud static noise. i went to configure the settings but it said i tried everything and it would still make the noise. i tried plugging in a brand new mic that has never been used before i took it out of the packaging and plugged it in and still the same problem.
I recently tested windows 7, 6801 only because you cant get the beta in 64 bit yet. Anyway. I use 2 260 gtx and under windows 7 games play much better than in vista BUT they would only run properly when sli was disabled. SLI mode in windows 7 for me was totally broken. The computer would freeze and not recover. The only way was to reset the computer. I hope it is only a driver issue since they do not make graphics drivers for 7 yet but geeze that really sucks. Is anyone else using sli in 7? I used 64 bit.
So the SATA connector on my old 64GB SSD snapped off, now it's become a crap shoot just trying to get the bios to recognize it. I've already accepted I'll need to RMA this one, and even bought a bigger replacement for it.to the nature of my OS install I am a bit confused as to how I should go about reinstalling windows. I'd put the main OS files (and drivers) on the SSD, while storing the users folders and everything else on my larger HD. Now however I am left with just my windows 7 install disc, and a 1TB harddrive I know has my user folders on it.How should I go about installing it? Is there an easy way to simply use the already established folders and the like, instead of manually moving/deleting the old ones?
I was playing total war shogun 2 on windows 7. Diagonal lines started shooting out of the characters, square block patterns start flashing all over the place. The graphics got progressevley worse and worse so i took in. They tested the graphics card and it was fine so they restarted the computer and then windows crashed. They reinstalled windows 7 and i started putting everything back together.
I just put total war back on my computer and started playing and its started again. I restarted my computer and all that came back was a blinking undersscore. Luckily i shutdown and it started normally but the graphics are still messed up.
i have been attempting to open some .exe files but keep on getting the message 'not a vaild win32 application'. A scan with Super Anti spyware shows the following - System Broken File Association HKCR\.exe. I am assuming that something is wrong with the .exe link. I have checked the list of defaults and noticed that the .exe default was missing. I have also tried some fixes which appear to attempt to change the registry, but these have not worked. Do i need to manually change some registry content?
what caused the problem: inserting a usb mouse ive been using for half a year. i got a bsod and now the D partition is broken. already tried re-installing C with a new windows, but no luck. How can i try to get the data out of D if thats possible? i already ran some kind of live CD, but it couldnt access the D partition...i need something strong, and if its not possible to get any data, whats a good formatting app?
i moved into a new house last week and when i turned on my pc i noticed how there was a 3/4 inch black gap between where the screen displayed colour and the end of the screen. I have installed the newest graphics drivers on my sapphire radeon 4850HD but it doesn't seem to change.. There are no new important windows updates, which i thought it would've fixed it in the first place. anyone have any idea?
Intel G45 WDDM drivers are highly unstable and give consistant BSODs in media center. This includes the drivers that ship with Windows 7 RC (7100). Any ideas where/when we can get some more stable/better drivers?
i have 2 hard drives, one running xp, one running windows 7.
up until recently they have been working fine together, but i think i had/have a virus and it trashed my XP drive (crashes right after desktop loads) which is no worry to me.
my worry is every time i try to boot into windows 7, i recieve the "BOOTMGR IS MISSING - CNTRL ALT DLT TO RESTART" error.
i have tried a bunch of things like attempting to move the bootmgr file from the XP drive to the windows one, and trying to create the bootmgr on the Windows 7 drive, but no luck.
so my question is how can i get windows 7 to boot indepentantly from my messed up XP drive, casue the boot files are on the xp one.
It worked fine on Windows Vista. I just formated the first and installed Windows Seven on it. Now when loading up Seven, it says the 2nd is installed and working, but its not accessible and doesnt even appear.
i recently had my hard drive fail and im in need of a new one the one i have is raid 0 500gb hd and i need some prices on what i need to get a new one along with how to set up bios and a new os. i have a windows 7 upgrade disk and a restore disk if that helps.
I installed Windows 7 3days ago and I did not feel comfortable about it. It kept bugging out with almost everything and the performance on my games just became weaker than when I had Vista installed. Well, I tried to uninstall Windows 7 and get back to Windows Vista while using this guide here: How to restore a Windows 7-based computer to a previous Windows installation by using the Windows.old folder I used that command program in the "repair your computer" section in Windows 7 boot menu but I accidentally typed in wrong commands in there so I closed the command program and restarted my computer.
When I did that I actually thought that everything would be fine when I suddenly saw that I had Windows Vista and Windows 7 installed? I runned Windows Vista and hoped that I would work but only a blank screen came up after I clicked on it. Windows 7 did not worked eather because I had already moved my system files when I tried to switch back to Vista. Now I have reinstalled Windows 7 and the old programs that I had are on Windows folders, I now have folders that I should not have a such.
Its really really messy right now and I just want to clean my harddrive and download Windows 7 from scratch. I really need help with deleting everything in my harddrive and I want to know if the "Acer" screen after I start the computer will pop-up if I clean my harddrive because thats the only place I can boot Windows 7 from if I deleted everything in my harddrive.
