[64-bit] Windows 7 Network Icon Shows A Red Cross (broken)?
Sep 19, 2010Sparodically following boot up my network icon shows that it is broken, (displays red cross) can anyone assist as to why this happens, I am using W7 64 bit clean install on a gigabyte mobo ga-ep35-dsp3, 8400 intel cpu with 4 gybtes memory. Also which file does this icon activaye from.

My network is okay and no problem on Internet and network from my 2 computer but:
1 - the icon in system tray show broken connection:
2 - in system hardware all network are okay
3 - in network preferences only 1 is present
i try to UN-install all the network, so windows recognized these at startup but nothing..

Dec 24, 2011While running memtest86 on a bootable cd, it froze which I then restarted my computer. It is now unable to start up Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I can reinstall Windows but would like to know if the whole event damaged my hard drive. I can only start up to where the orbs make the Windows logo before it restarts. Also there is no noise, smoke or smell coming from my hard drive. Is it possible that it is damaged beyond use and repair? Also my BIOS seems to have changed the name of the Hard drive to SATA instead of HDD

Mar 14, 2011I just started having an issue on a clean install of Windows 7 SP1 build 7601.The icons for the W & Z partitions is suddenly showing as a broken link.I have tried right clicking on each partition > properties > customize > restore default folder picture and there is no change for either to update the icon.

Dec 2, 2011I recently was trying some different methods to transfer files from my desktop to my laptop, and I started up Windows Easy Share. I realized it wasn't what I wanted about halfway through and quit out, but since then my E:\ partition (personal files) has something similar to the shortcut overlay that simply will not go away.It's an icon with two of those windows styled people with the crewcuts and green shirts my guess is that is how it got there, as it was not there prior.I have also tried using the How To Geek recommended program for icon switches of drives on Windows 7 to no avail.

Nov 2, 2009If your not going to use a Floppy Drive in your Computer you can disable it and ger rid of the Floppy Drive icon that sits in my computer.
Right click on my computer and select properties. In the hardware tab select 'Device Manager'. In the device manager there should be an expandable menu labelled 'Floppy disk controllers', expand this and you should see something like 'Standard floppy disk controller' right click on this and click disable. If at some time you do need to use a Floppy Drive you can re-able it.

Recovery Drive Now Visible When Click On Computer Icon
Sep 9, 2011In a (successful) attempt to correct WGA registration problem I did a Windows Repair.
I used Windows Backup and saved it to my external hard drive. Now I have almost identical files and folders there and on the now visible Recovery drive. TBUH, when making the backup several options appeared and I checked one without being 110% sure it was right.
Did possibly I do something not right? What need I do to correct anything wrong, including which folders and files I may safely delete? What advice do I need for future?

Jul 6, 2011I have a compaq cq56-115dx latop, and looking for some input on a problem I have. I attempted to upgrage my ram from 2 gb to 5gb. The 4 gb chip went in ok on the bottom slot, however, when placing second 1 gb chip, I accidentally broke the levers. Since it was now broken I decided, to see what would happen if I gently replaced cover, to hold chip in place, ad screwed cover on firmly. Turned on laptop, and all is working fine, including all 5 gb memory is available. My question is should I leave it the way it is, or should I have it fixed properly. FYI the cover over the chip is vented.

Sep 16, 2012I was talking to some friends over skype when i needed to log out and my mic was fine there were no problems with it. i logged out and when i logged back in and called a friend up on skype he could not hear me talking the only thing he could hear was a loud static noise. i went to configure the settings but it said i tried everything and it would still make the noise. i tried plugging in a brand new mic that has never been used before i took it out of the packaging and plugged it in and still the same problem.

Jan 7, 2009I recently tested windows 7, 6801 only because you cant get the beta in 64 bit yet. Anyway. I use 2 260 gtx and under windows 7 games play much better than in vista BUT they would only run properly when sli was disabled. SLI mode in windows 7 for me was totally broken. The computer would freeze and not recover. The only way was to reset the computer. I hope it is only a driver issue since they do not make graphics drivers for 7 yet but geeze that really sucks. Is anyone else using sli in 7? I used 64 bit.

Jul 7, 2012So the SATA connector on my old 64GB SSD snapped off, now it's become a crap shoot just trying to get the bios to recognize it. I've already accepted I'll need to RMA this one, and even bought a bigger replacement for it.to the nature of my OS install I am a bit confused as to how I should go about reinstalling windows. I'd put the main OS files (and drivers) on the SSD, while storing the users folders and everything else on my larger HD. Now however I am left with just my windows 7 install disc, and a 1TB harddrive I know has my user folders on it.How should I go about installing it? Is there an easy way to simply use the already established folders and the like, instead of manually moving/deleting the old ones?

May 29, 2012I was playing total war shogun 2 on windows 7. Diagonal lines started shooting out of the characters, square block patterns start flashing all over the place. The graphics got progressevley worse and worse so i took in. They tested the graphics card and it was fine so they restarted the computer and then windows crashed. They reinstalled windows 7 and i started putting everything back together.
I just put total war back on my computer and started playing and its started again. I restarted my computer and all that came back was a blinking undersscore. Luckily i shutdown and it started normally but the graphics are still messed up.
Broken .exe File Association?
Jun 29, 2012i have been attempting to open some .exe files but keep on getting the message 'not a vaild win32 application'. A scan with Super Anti spyware shows the following - System Broken File Association HKCR\.exe. I am assuming that something is wrong with the .exe link. I have checked the list of defaults and noticed that the .exe default was missing. I have also tried some fixes which appear to attempt to change the registry, but these have not worked. Do i need to manually change some registry content?
