using win 7 64 bit sp1 with ms office xp, just opened an XL document to update it and when I try to save it I am getting the message:
'C:Usersmy nameDesktopmfc.xls' cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read only location, Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding.
I am trying to reinstall HP Phoosmart full setup in windows 7. Ihave downloaded the latest installation package frm the website but when I try to install it I get the message "The file cannot be accesed by the system". The file concerned is C:Program FilesHP(988329F4-A1A1-4D51-803C-EF2725A97627)gupauto. When I look for the file I can find it in the correct place.

D:usersuser_namedocumentsxxxxx.pdf
that upon trying to open it, I receive a message that the file is corrupt.I have looked high and low trying to find a way to DELETE this file, but to no avail. There's lot of references about running CHKDSK to check the drive, running FSUTIL to query the dirty bit (which is set on this drive, because of this file), and using CHKDSK to clear the dirty-bit. And, I tried them all. This, however, is NOT a hard drive issue. The drive is fine. It's the file structure that is in error. I just need a solution that will let me DELETE the file. I don't want recover it.
1. Use Paragon-Software Hard Disk Manager 12 to copy the hard drive to another drive. The second drive is large enough to hold all the data from the larger drive.
2. Check the file on the drive copy... (yep, it's there... yep, it's corrupt... yep, the dirty-bit is on)
3. Create a filter in Paragon-Software HDM12 for that specific file.
4. Run the disk copy again using the filter.
5. Check the file on the drive copy... (this time the file is not there and the dirty bit is not set)
Having done this, I think I'm ready to copy the hard drive back. I just haven't pulled the trigger. I want to recable the drives to use the copy just to make sure I can reach everything. Then, I'll pull the trigger.
i get this problem in few of my files in hard disk, which is Disk D, first one is Disk C, any1 have cure for this, at first i only have this error in 1 file, now in 3 files, but these files are working perfectly, just cant copy paste.

Also, I need to figure out how to implement it so that when a user reboot and/or logoff from this computer, that it restore the vhd OS to its original state (read-only). Is that even possible?
Note: I'm already able to create a normal vhd from scratch or from an existing Windows 7 system. What I can't figure out is how to make it a read-only vhd file.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to find a way for Windows Vista and 7 to use the Folder.jpg file in a folder as an album artwork icon (in lieu of a folder icon with skewed and obscured artwork), and since Windows no longer natively supports this feature, the best workaround I've been able to find is to replace the folder icon manually. This creates a desktop.ini file with an absolute path to the Folder.ico file I also have in each album folder. I then changed the desktop.ini to reference a relative path, like this:[.ShellClassInfo]IconResource=Folder.ico,0Here's where my questions arise:1. When I copy that desktop.ini to another folder with a Folder.ico file, Windows doesn't read it, even after restarting the computer. I've searched the web on this and have found thread after thread where people have the same issue, but no one seems to be able to resolve it without manually changing the icon, either through the Explorer interface or using the command prompt. Is there a way I can get Windows to read the manually-copied desktop.ini of every sub-folder in my music directory?
2. On a related note, when I copy my customized folders with the relative-path desktop.ini from my Windows Vista computer to my Windows 7 computer, the artwork doesn't show up there, even for the folders I got to look right in Windows Vista. Am I going to have to manually re-associate the desktop.ini every time I upgrade computers or reinstall the OS?The album artwork looks so good, but I don't want to go through hundreds of folders and manually associate the folder to read the desktop.ini file. That would take so long, and just the few I've done manually so far have killed my wrist.
I'm trying to download a powerpoint but everytime i try it says this ppt.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.I don't understand why? View 1 Replies View RelatedAll my browsers were freezing and crashing. I was getting the DNS 1012 error. I found out I was missing my host file. I added back the host file. Chrome and Internet explorer worked ok for a little while, then they started crashing again. I took off Chrome and replaced with Opera. Opera worked perfectly for a day and I thought my troubles were over. The next day, it started freezing and crashing and I am getting the DNS 1012 error again. If it's not recognizing the host file, why did Opera work so well for that one day. Also I noticed when I go to my embarqmail account, that's when the freezing really begins and then it affects other sites I go to after that.

But lo and behold I try to install something and get this new problem. I tried going into cmd and unregistering windows installer and then re-registering it but that didnt work. Someone suggesting going into regedit and going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCURRENT CONTROL SETSERVICESMSIserverWOW64 then right click on WOW64, then select Modify Set Value Data to 0 (mine was set at 1) and Base should be Hexadecimal. However, I can't even do this because when I go to MSIserver there is no WOW64 folder so I don't even know what to change.
System restore doesn't work earlier. I really want to avoid a complete reinstall. I was able to avoid it with my BSODs but now with this new issue I cannot install anything on my computer.
After several automatic update by windows my system time has been changed (easy to change back but why did it happen) the windows installer cannot be accessed. I ran elevated sfc/sannow some repairs were made but not to installer. Would a start up repair work.

"Windows Installer Service cannot be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."
I have attempted to look up what this means, however all of the guides I find are for Windows 2000 or Server 2003! I have also had the same error message pop up when I try to manually install updates with Windows Updater.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis happened the last time I reformated and I don't really understand what's going on. I have 4 harddrives. 1 SSD and the rest are standard 7200RPM drives. This is the error I get when I try to install something.
Weird thing is I can't even play games cause I get this error too.
I did unplug the harddrives from the motherboard when I cleaned it, don't know if that could cause a problem, I don't believe they we're put in the same spots.
