Burning Edited Recorded TV To DVD For DVD Players
Feb 4, 2013
I found that MC was ideal to work with my TV tuner and making immediate or scheduled recordings is a doddle. The .wtv recording is readily burned to a DVD in Video-TS format using MC and this is playable on my DVD player. There is still the problem of having to fast-forward the run-in and commercials but for a one time review on my TV this is not really a problem.
What is a problem is where you have a particular recording which you want to edit and and then produce a DVD which can be played on any player. I found the basic editing of removing start and end sections and splitting to remove commercials easy using Windows Movie Maker. This edited version can be saved as a Windows Media Video (.wmv) file which can be viewed on the computer in Movie Maker but if burned to DVD, cannot be played in a DVD player. It can also be saved as a .mp4 file but this also cannot be read by any DVD players. Media Center does not recognise either of these formats so cannot be used to burn to DVD.
is there a convenient way to both edit the recorded TV and then save it on a DVD in a format which can be played on a regular DVD player? Alternatively, is there a program which can read .wmv and .mp4 and burn to DVD in Videa-TS?

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop new in Italy in December 2009 from a major computer store. The computer came installed with Windows 7 Home Premium (Italian), and I have installed on it an original version of Microsoft Office XP 2003 Professional Edition (English). The CD-ROM unit is a Matsushita DVD+-RW UJ890.Since I bought the computer I have sometimes had difficulty burning DVDs with the built-in Windows 7 burner function that I access from Explorer. Often in the past I have ended up with partially written DVDs. Nevertheless by using high-quality DVDs I have been able to burn DVDs successfully most of the time using the Windows 7 utility. I last used the utility successfully a couple of months ago when I burned a couple of DVDs to backup some photos.
Since yesterday I have been trying to backup my most important files onto DVDs. The attempt has failed in every case. First I copy about 3 GB of files from drive C: onto drive D: in Explorer. These are several hundred files divided into three different directories, consisting mostly of PDF, Word, Excel, and JPG files, some of them with names in foreign scripts like Cyrillic, Japanese, or Chinese. Then I insert a new DVD (either Verbatim or TDK) and attempt to master the DVD by selecting the option write to disk from the Explorer menu (whether from the menus at the top of the screen or by right-clicking on drive D: in the lefthand pane of the screen). A window pops up asking me for the name of the disk, whether I want it to be flash or one-time only, and the recording speed (8x, 4x, 2x, etc.).
Once I click continue to start burning the DVD, a window pops up to tell me that Windows is making an image of the disk, and then the window tells me that it has begun mastering the disk, giving me a countdown of how many minutes are left (6 minutes to 11 minutes, depending on the speed I choose). But no matter what name I give to the disk and what recording speed I pick, after 30-60 seconds the popup window and the Explorer window both suddenly close and the DVD units writing light goes out, but the DVD unit continues to whir at high speed forever.
Here are the results I got yesterday with 3 separate DVDs:
1. On the first DVD I used Windows 7s burn utility on a Verbatim DVD, and I ended up with 28 files burned onto the DVD (making it unusable).
2. On the second try I used some simple burn software that I had used before Roxio Burn on a TDK DVD, and ended up with 4 files burned onto the disk (but from different folders than the 28 files burned by Windows 7).
3. On my third attempt, after going offline, shutting down my antivirus software (AVG), and using Task Manager to shut down processes from that other burn software, Roxio Burn, I used Windows 7s burn utility again on a TDK DVD and ended up with the identical 28 files that had I ended up with the first time, though this time I had chosen a lower writing speed.
In all three of these attempts the DVD unit continued to whir after the windows had closed, until such time as I ejected the disk manually. When I first encountered this problem yesterday I thought the problem might be caused by my antivirus software AVG Free Edition interfering with the writing process, because after one particular automatic update by AVG about two months ago I began having problems with AVG blocking Skype and placing some of my Nokia cell phone software in quarantine. But by disabling the HIPS element of AVG I was able to resolve those problems several weeks ago and begin using Skype successfully again. But just to be sure, today I disinstalled AVG completely and installed Microsoft Security Essentials. Because I had read in a forum online that Windows 7 might have conflicts with other burning software that was also installed, today I also disinstalled the only burning software that I had installed Roxio Burn and did a cold reboot. Before attempting to burn a DVD again today, I also used Task Manager to shut down some other processes that didnt seem necessary, such as a Nokia autolauncher and a Java autoupdate process. I also changed the time delay for Windows sleep or power-save function to one hour.
I inserted a new TDK DVD, accepted the disk name proposed by Windows, chose for the disk to be permanent rather than flash, and chose a burning speed of 4x. After 30 seconds I received a popup window with the following message:
ST Service Scheduling has stopped working.I ignored this message and did nothing, because often in the past when I have succeeded in burning DVDs with Windows 7's utility I have had this message appear, but if I do nothing I almost always have the burn proceed successfully. In this case, though, after another 10-20 seconds the Explorer window and burning-countdown window both closed, the DVD light went out, but the DVD continued whirring at high velocity. The DVD unit did not respond to my pushing the expel button by hand, and when I tried to expel the DVD using Explorer I only got an error message, so the DVD could be expelled only by shutting down the computer. When I turned the computer back on, I discovered that no files at all had been written to this DVD.below are the details from the ST Service Scheduling error message (in Italian, sorry). Whenever I get these ST Service Scheduling error messages I get them twice, i.e., after choosing Close one time the same message immediately appears again and I have to choose Close a second time.

I sent myself an email with a word document attached. I did this so I could finish the editing at home. I opened the attachment, edited the word document, then saved it when prompted when I closed the document. Where did I save the document? I can't find it.

I have a very strange problem. I have recently experienced that MP3 files and JPEG files disappear when I edit them. I have for example rotated a JPEG image in the Windows photo viewer and changed the album name on an MP3 file in windows media player. After this I can no longer find the file in the folder. The MP3 file can still play in windows media player but in the folder where the files used to be it says "folder is empty". What is going on? I do not understand it

When I edit tags for music files in windows explorer, either right-clicking and going into properties or editing whilst viewing the details, when I import the song into itunes it doesn't show up.Sometimes it will work, where the album, the year, the genre, artist, and title show up. But sometimes when I upload an entire album 2 or 3 songs wont display the tags correctly. They only show 'artist - song' (which is the name of the file) in the name field in itunes. (It used to only show 'artist - song' when I imported using xp when the files didn't have any info in them except for the file name).

I have spent the day editing a document which i stupidly just opened from an email attachment in my hotmail account and proceeded to edit. I diligently saved it throughout the day but did not use the save as function.
I have tried to open a similar document and choose save as to see where the document would have saved but this does not seem to work in Windows 7. I have tried looking in my 'temp' folder but this is empty.
Does anyone know how else I could retrieve this document? It is the only version i have...i really ought to have looked after it better!

I recently edit my Group Policies in Windows 7 x64. I disabled several SQL accounts and set those accounts to deny logon locally. When I rebooted the machine none of my accounts can log in. The machine is not a domain controller, but the error is along the lines of this type of login is not allowed on this machine. How do I resolve this?

so I've been having this issue on my laptop for about a month now. It just started one day and even after reinstalling windows 2 days ago, the problem is still there.Whenever I watch a movie any video format including high quality, mkv files my video lags, the picture just freezes, gets choppy, the sound continues to work, but video is freezing and eventually I have no other solution than click pause/play a few times, so the picture and sound gets correct again. I don't know what the problem could be, but every player does it, VLC, KMplayer, RealPlayer, WMP,MPHC. [code]

I'm having trouble getting my computer to recognize mp3 players. I was using a Sony, it broke, I bought an ipod and it wasn't recognized by my computer at all when I plugged it in, but because my phone and camera both work in the USB ports I thought it was the ipod and returned it. Now I've got a Creative Labs Zen and having the same problem. It's brand new, I plugged it in and it says the device driver software failed to install. When i try plugging it again, it doesn't even attempt to install.'ve tried all of the USB ports, updating the drivers, and clearing "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" from the USB root hubs but nothing seems to workThe USB ports work with other devices so I'm guessing it can't be a problem with that. Also, it makes a sounds when i disconnect/connect the player so the computer has got to be recognizing it to some degree somewhere

I record on a CD-R the worship service at my church. I then rip certain tracks, isolate only the sermon, and burn it to a CD-R (mp3) using Windows Media Player. I recently realized I can play them back on my laptop but the recipients may not be able to hear it on a CD player or car stereo (including mine = 2002 Acura MDX Bose). What do I need to do to be sure 100% of recipients will be able to hear it?

I can't seem to get smooth playback with any videos and it's driving me insane. I've tried WMP, VLC, MPC-HC, and it makes little difference. It doesn't matter if it's 1080p or low res.Every video plays as if it has a a very low frame rate; basically a subtle lag/stuttering that gives me a headache if I look at it for too long. It's not really noticeable until there's quick movement in the video, I've tried many different output settings in these players, and used several different codec packs.

when watching videos on Internet or google video or any video flash player. the audio will start to crack and pop. little at first then gets worst and worst. it gets even more worst when you change the resolution high. here is the weird thing. the crack and pops are gone when you maximize the video to full screen. this sometimes happens in windows media player as well. sometimes when editing in sony vegas pro 11. i will get random popping noises. and audio will not be playing.this happens on 3 different headsets that i use. 2 of which are 3.5m jack plugs and another pair is usb. the usb headset uses it's own audio drives. it's my steelseries headset.i have a realtek hd audio sound device that is part of the motherboard. it is up to date.i have tried using firefox, google chrome, internet explorer, all three didn't work.all my drives are up to date.

I have build 7000, and am upgrading to a later build. How can I get my MCE recorded tv list (programs it has recorded in the past and the upcoming recording) to transfer to the new build? I have tried the easy transfer stuff and that did not copy it over.
Does anyone have any pointers? I like the new build - but I had too many shows setup to record to bother with the upgrade - and it's annoying to have it record duplicates of reruns I've already seen (though some reruns I haven't so I can't say "only new" in the record options).
Anyone know how this data is stored and is it transferable between builds?

I have the gateway SX2850, Home Premium 64 bit, with a Homerun ATSC dual tuner. The audio is fine for any programs streaming online, but I cannot get audio on live or recorded TV. This happened suddenly. I watched a recorded show and it was fine. I tried to watch the same recording a second time and there is no audio. I ran the audio diagnostic/fix program, but it did not work. I do get Win 7 audio, just not when I try to watch recorded or live TV.

I have an audio recording issue and I will try to explain it as best I can. When I record with a microphone, the recorded audio plays back very low. I have gone through the settings for hours on end and can find no cause. I have the microphone gain at 100% and the boost at +30. The system plays back other prerecorded files fine with plenty of level. When I play my recorded files I must crank up the volume, so high that I get a lot of background hiss. It records fine, just very low. I took a look at this in both Audacity and Adobe Soundbooth and the level meters reflect the low signal level as being down in the mud. I have not tried 'Line in' to see if it works any better, I have only used the microphone. BTW, I have tried several microphones all with the same results. Additionally, are the microphone input jacks in my motherboard stereo? The boom microphone cable on my headset is a three wire just like the ear pieces. Does anyone know the pin configuration for this jack? I am assuming the the tip is one channel the ring is the other channel and the base is ground/common. FYI, the Sound system is onboard - Asus P6X58D Premium mobo running 7 x64 Pro, and Realtek HD drivers. (Installed and reinstalled and updated) Also, I tested the headset and boom microphone on another system, (Abit IL9 Pro mobo onboard audio running Vista 32 business) it also is running Realtek HD drivers and it works fine.
