The third bought his own laptop on company credit card (allowed) it's a Toshiba Satellite L640. He handed it back in on his last day (unwillingly) friend tried to start it up and goes straight to a black screen with blue password box, can't F2 or F12 just goes straight to password, can't boot off CD. Former employee won't answer phone calls and not sure he would provide it anyway.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought this laptop from Best Buy around Nov 2009 and it is still in great shape. However, my pc was infected with spam and I changed the password but lost the paper I wrote it on. I took it to a specialist here in my office and he said that to fix it, he will have to break something and that scared the crap out of me so I told him not to fix it. I am about to start online classes soon and I do not want to buy a new laptop?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently suffered a trojan virus attach and ultimately have changed my password on my email server.I have tried to reset it to the new password in Windows mail multiple times. It keeps reverting to the old password as the saved password, and I continually have to retype in the new password. I tried resetting the password to nothing, and rebooting, and the old password comes back again. There must be a preference file or an ini file that I can edit. Can I do that without loosing my address book, etc.?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAlright so a year ago I bought a Lenovo PC and it came with Windows Home Premium 64-bit. Im now planning on putting together a new PC but using the same HDD. The only part I will be keeping thats from the original PC would be the HDD and possibly RAM. The windows copy is apparently OEM (According to Jellybean Keyfinder) so will I have any problems with this? If so what can I do to fix it?

I have recently built myself a PC (Windows 7, i5) and it's running fine except for one problem. Every now and again, when I've been away from it, I find that it's reset itself. I don't think it's overheating as the machine has two extra case fans and the temps seem fine. How should I go about starting to investigate this as it has never reset itself while I've been there.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've recently built my a Windows 7 desktop and i'm getting all kinds of blue screens.I have tried doing a clean install, i've done a system restore since then to when it was working best and i've still had BSOD.Originally it kept BSOD when i had two sticks of RAM in (at least once every 30 min) and worked fine when only one was in. I've since done a clean install and have both in.I've attached the dmp files from the two BSOD i've had since i have done the clean install. The only programs installed are Avast! 6.0.1000) and the software to run the wireless dongle (Netgear WG111v3) plus whatever came with Windows 7.I've ran dskchk and sfc /scannow with no errors reported. I've ran memtest86 and that returned no errors (though only ran once)The motherboard has MemtestOK! and that shows no errors.Motherboard: Asus M4A88T-V EVO USB3 (the latest drivers for the chipset, audio, graphics, lan and usb3 from the amd website have been installed)THe drivers for the wireless mouse and keyboard are install as is for the wireless dongle. The BIOS is the latest chipset as well.

View 9 Replies View Relateddv6 i7 HP with a webcam that used to work great inside the house. Now, the screen is just about all black except for the dim outline of a light using the HP TrueVision HD cam. Machine came with Cyberlink YouCam 3.5 and I updated it to 5.0 and still same thing. I really don't want to have to use the USB webcam which works fine inside the house. I went to device manager and found the HP TrueVision HD driver and updated it and it says that I have the latest driver. Maybe I should delete this and re-install? I went to an SSD which runs well but according to them it messes up the entire system and I am a bad customer. The problem existed before the SSD and I really do not wish to deal with HP tech any longer. BTW the cam shows up outside so something is screwy and I cant put my finger on it. I have adjusted all the settings up down and everywhere in between then back to default which always worked well.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently built a new computer for my brother, and as of yesterday, the system will only power on, and the only way to power it off is by either turning off the PSU or unplugging the power cable, neither of which I feel particularly comfortable doing.
When the computer's power is off, the power can be turned on by pressing the power button. However, when the computer is on, pressing or holding in the power button does nothing. If the shutdown option is chosen from the start menu, the computer will go through the standard shutdown sequence, and the monitor will go to sleep, but the fans in the computer will continue to run. If the power button is pressed at this point, the computer will act as if it is turning on normally and boot into Windows properly.
This problem started late last night. Prior to then, the computer would shut down and power off normally. No hardware changes were made to the system between the last successful power down and the time in which this issue started.
System hardware:
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
RAM: 4GB DDR3 (Two 2GB sticks)

PSU: Cooler Master RS-460-PSAR-J3
Motherboard: ASUS msq-m4n68t-mv2(b)
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda ES.2 500GB
